HA! I just told my husband yesterday that I bet the witnesses are crapping themselves with all that is going on.

I have been to the kingdom hall once, to attend my brother's wedding. That is the one and only time since I left in 2011.
I have to say I have considered going back, but I always come to my senses. LOL
When I left I said I would give it six months and if I missed it I would go back. That didn't happen.

The org tightens the noose on J.W.'s thinking.
by The Fall Guy inthe manipulative use of language by the org in the upcoming circuit assembly talks is as good - or better - than any advertising conglomerate could devise.
the mind-shaping wording is clearly used in order to deter critical thinking by the sheep.. face bad reports as jesus did (9 min.
note to the speaker: explain why spiritually mature people do not become ashamed of the good news or dismayed when faced with negative propaganda.

They are scared for a good reason, I think. Way back in 2002 I remember seeing the television program Dateline about the cover ups of sexual abuse among the witnesses. That planted a seed for me. I thought about it for a LONG time. I didn't leave until 2011, so it was slow going for me but it worked eventually.

Did You Enjoy Your "Vacations " As a JW?
by minimus inwe went on "vacation " every year because we were jehovah's witnesses!
we were so fortunate to stay in a cheap hotel more often than not so that we could enjoy a witness convention.. we never enjoyed a real vacation though until many years later and the funny thing is---so many jws thought it was so materialistic because we went on more than one "vacation " per year..

That's one thing I can say my parents did well. We would go camping several times a summer and we went to Colorado twice. In fact my parents still take 4-6 camping trips a year. I think if da troof is so great why do they have to get away from it so much because they never go to the meetings when they are away.
My husband and I went to a congregation where a lot of people went on vacation a lot. They would grow beards and get fake tattoos and drink like fish.
Sadly, we haven't been on a vacation since we left the Jdubs. BUT- we haven't been to a CONVENTION either so I guess that's a vacation in itself.

Question...
by ironsnake656 inwhen you were an active member in the jwland, did you expect to receive any kind of help from a brother/sister, but they did not help you?
when i was in the jwland, i expected and was my belief that any brother/sister will help you in time of need, distress or trouble, because we were part of a "lovely organization".
but countless of times when i needed and asked for help, nobody from the org helped me.

In 2008 I had a mental breakdown of sorts. I have struggled with bipolar for most of my life. At that time I didn't know I had it I hadn't yet been diagnosed. Without boring you all with the details, my sister in law said to my other sister in law that they should help me. NOT financially mind you. Just with childcare and getting to the meetings, etc. Well other sister in law told her that was my parents' job. I was floored. She wouldn't even try to encourage me? She couldn't keep my kids for a couple hours while I tried to get myself together?
I too left because of the lack of love. Took me 3 years after that to leave but I finally got sick of it.

A Short Life Story - Part 4 (Finale)
by pale.emperor ina continuation from part 3, which is here: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/4807117397557248/short-life-story-part-3#!#4918071166763008.
my wife had settled into a routine of waking up at 6am each day, cleaning (so no chance of a lie in for me or our daughter with the vacuum cleaner going), eating very little, picking the skin off her lips while she sits there in a trance obsessing over things that are out of our control and dont matter anyway.
she never did return to work.

Jw mummies boys
by purrpurr ini've had the misfortune to encounter quite a few mummies boys in the cult.
men aged 20-40 who although in men's bodies think, act and behave like children.
their mother's had them tied to the apron strings tightly.

My brother is a mama's boy. He at the age of at least 25 was interested in a girl, so he went to my parents and asked if they thought he was ready to marry (per young people ask). He's now married (to a different woman), and they go to my mom's every Friday night, go on vacation together, etc.
In a way, I feel bad for him as he is so attached that he'll likely never leave the organization.

Anyone recall someone disfellowshipped for gluttony???
by James Mixon ingluttony seems to be a sin that jw's like to ignore .there are several scriptures that point out that gluttony is a sin, proverbs 23:20-21 "do not join those who gorge themselves on meat".....also i read somewhere that 1% is the number of disfellowshipped jw's each year......how do prove someone is a glutton and not just a person who love food???

jp1692 Thank you for your kind words. I have sought medical help but my doctor is not very good with his advice. He just tells me to go on a diet, need a new doctor for sure. I do go to counseling but we spend so much time just dealing with my bipolar crises that getting to my eating issues never seems to happen.
Yes my husband is at a healthy weight, and goes to the gym, bikes, does yoga, and eats right. Too bad I can't seem to follow his example. Thanks again.

This used to bother me as I am a glutton. I used to feel incredibly bad about my sin. If they ever did DF for it I probably would have been first in line. I still struggle with food and I am losing. For me it's a comfort thing. That and I hate myself and always have.
My mother always hated that I am fat. She used to lecture me endlessly.
Now my husband on the other hand has lost over 200 lbs since we left the JWs.

CounselIling for Ex Cult Members
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini wanted to ask those of you who were born into the jws and eventually left as an adult, whether any of you have had any counselling?
i know from experience that being programmed by a cult since birth does not give us the social skills and knowledge to function and interact with people in the outside world as we were taught to avoid it.
those of you that have had counselling, do you feel that it has helped you?

I go to counseling and have for many years. I mostly go to deal with my bipolar disorder but it has helped me with the loss of my family as well. I think I am pretty much deprogrammed from the JWs as I was really done with it all when I left. It has been challenging and I still am working on my self esteem-it's a slow process for me.
