I remember back in the 90s the caretaker for the jersey city assembly hall(their pride and joy) was disfellowshipped for wife swapping and allowing worldly people access to the hall for pictures etc

Back when I was still attending those crazy meetings I had an obsession with reggae music. I hated the kingdom songs with a passion however for some reason reggae songs that talked about highly Selassie and various other Rastafari and concepts really appealed to me and did something to me spiritually they were very moving in that they touched on real issues and not the panda pitting paradise we always talked about in the watchtower. I also knew that singing the songs and listening to them was tantamount to interfaith and ultimately if any of the brothers found out that I was doing this it could lead to all sorts of trouble. However as I Made my path towards leaving the organization and ultimately my disassociation one of the final public talks that I actually gave was pretty much a rewrite of one of my favorite reggae songs and no one noticed and I got quite the chuckle out of that

My parents were around for the whole fiasco. In 1973 they moved from fairly comfortable circumstances in NJ with their two kids, one 4 and the other was two. They made this move so that they could devote as much time in service until the system ended. They moved to a remote part of NC where the closest hall was about 50 miles away. They struggled for 3 years and realized it was a bad move and that the end was not coming. They struggled their entire lives after that with three children and never fully recovered. Both in their late 70's you would think they would have learned.
5 years ago when I began making my exit and spoke to them about this they said the exact same thing that is said in the video. Even down to the part about people deciding on their own to sell houses and cars and even stating many of their friends did the same thing. I even showed them the articles in the Awake from the 60's in their own hardcopy of the bound volumes in their study and they REFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSED to look at it.
There is no saving the generation that lived through it. They have been thoroughly convinced that everything they went through never took place.

and briefly it tells of an equipment failure at a storage facility for ice cores that had been extracted from the polar ice cap in various locations.. but note, that the layers of ice evident in the cores covered a period of 22,000 years.
and from the christian/jw perspective, that's impossible, for the bible story of the flood (verified by jesus and sundry other biblical writers) maintains that 4000+ years ago, the ice caps would have melted during the period when the earth was covered by the divinely caused deluge.

Thoughts on African Americans and Slavery
by Simon inlet's start by saying that slavery is of course a terrible thing, one of the worst crimes imaginable, and that "slavery" rarely implies good treatment, anything noble or defensible.
nowadays, even god doesn't escape judgement from our enlightened views with passages about slavery in the bible usually glossed over because they are shameful.. but not all slavery was equal.. because of the media, movie industry, racial tensions in the us regularly shown on the news and our taught history, i think most people's knowledge and idea of slavery is that of the north atlantic slave trade where white people took africans to work in cotton fields.
this idea is probably also re-enforced because the largest group of descendents of slaves we see today are african americans (usually in the us or places they subsequently migrated to).. but it's incomplete.. it's only when you look into it more that you discover that there was much more to the slave trade than that, otherwise it would have been just called "the slave trade" and not "the north atlantic slave trade".. some 12.5 million slaves were taken from africa to the us with just under 11 million surviving the trip so it obviously took a terrible toll immediately, even before any maltreatment once they landed in the americas where conditions and treatment were truly awful.

They kept speaking about this huge fear of another holocaust and how something that happened in the 1940's still has such a huge impact on THEIR daily lives. They believe that the racist views that many had in the early 20th century still exist to this day and that AMERICA and EUROPE need to devote more monetary sources to the security of their nation.
I must admit I was very upset. Here we are 70+ years later and you are still acting as if you are disadvantaged? World governments came together and created / returned you to your country and continue to provide billions of dollars in aid and defense. The time has come to move on and realize that things that took place over half a century ago have no bearing on where you are at today - which I might add is a very nice situation.
