  I have to admit. I do not look at my time at Bethel as wasted. I was a kid from a very poor area who went to the big city... went to parties... drank alot... became a small time celebrity(bethelites were cool lol) ... mad alot of friends, and ultimately became an apostate at the young age of 22, but didn't officially leave until many years later.

  Sure I almost died from toxic poisoning after cleaning out an abandoned food trap at the 25-30 building, but I can imagine there are tons of people who never got to have the same fun I did

  No abuse, to be honest if you were young then you were worked to death. I remember when I was moved to the Office Furniture department we had to work the typical hours from the end of morning worship till 5 ish...

  but also 3 days out if the week we would be back at it from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. in "the world" at abandoned office building dismantalling panel walls and scavenging steelcase desks and chairs to being g back to Bethel and we would repair them and ship them to other branches.

  We cleaned the chairs with a chemical called "PERK" that was later said to cause cancer. We used it to clean the fabric of the paper gel walls and chairs.

  When we got in early in the morning we still had to be up like everyone else and work normally. The shit was horrible

  When I worked in recycling I remember every Monday morning when we had the entire allotment of glass and aluminum that came in the the Henry street building it seem inpossible that one building could drink so much liquor and beer in a weekend...

  It was literally like a frat house.

  The brothers in their 30s and 40s all had good liquor... the younge brothers drank skanky beer. I still miss Mickeys malt liquor

  Because most brothers who were single and under the age of 45 had manual labor jobs.

  Cleaning. Construction, auto repair etc...

  For lunch in the office complex you had to dress up for lunch in at a minimum a pool shirt and khakis.

  In the home section of Bethel and some area of the factory you could wear work clothes but coming yo the table smelly or unkempt was a huuuuuuuuuge boy no. Like huge.

  In the 25 and 30 buildings of Bethel however this was not allowed because it was the same area where the governing body ate some dressing up or at a minimum dressing in a button up shirt and khakis was mandatory.

  In Brookly bethel there are three main sections.

  The factory. The home. The office.

  The factory was allowed the ability to dress down, the home was allowed a little leeway, the office was allowed none whatsoever.

  It was a very strange dynamic. Most people who worked in the office complex felt as if members of the factory and the home had no real idea of what Bethel was like. The office was literally a different planet.

  In the office complex as well as the home most locker rooms were communal showers... many residential buildings like standish also were communal.

  Many rooms had showers in their rooms but no one could make it to their rooms from work to shower before lunch.

  Bethel was much like a college dorm there was extreme use of alchohol. 57 hrnrybst. Was known as the icebox due to the amount of beer and liquor vonsumed. I went to Bethel at 19 and I was drunk multiple times at the same age.

  I am thinking of writing all the filth and insanity down one day. I have awesome shit I remember.

  When I was at Bethel there was a black brother who was about 5ft 4 very effeminate and everyone joked about him being this way. One day in the locker room of the office complex just before lunch (circa. 1997 - everyone showered in an open shower. There were no doors in a square room, with 6 shower heads on each wall) he was showering along with everyone else. There was another brother from the mid-west (caucasian, and very tall) who had an obsession with ghrabbing people in the shower and giving them reverse bear-hugs while naked anad sometimes while just wrapped in a towel.

  On the particular day, he comes up behind the smaller black brother and bear hugs him and proceeds to toss him up and down while keeping a firm grasp on him. This proceeded for about 15 seconds and he proceeded to carry him around like this... for everyone to see. I was like WTF???!! A bunch of other people were in shock as well. This happened everyday for over a week until eventually someone mentioned it to brother Dennis Carrey. The small brother was moved to a different position in 124 building working the desk and no one wanted to say exactly why...

  The amount of homosexual activity and jokes and various other incidents that would have had people disfellowshipped instantly in a congregation were ridiculous.

  For dog's sake, one of the people who came to bethel the same time I did was kicked out because he was having sex with a prostitute and had her posing as if she was his witness girlfriend. He had money and tons of it because he was a programmer before coming to bethel at what was at the time a very large tech company. The stories I could tell...

  I am sure any bethrlite that worked in the office complex will confirm Sydlik had intense beliefs regarding race.

  While I was there I remember:

  1. Anyone at a table wearing bright colors "must have went shopping in Jew town for that tie/ suit jacket"

  2. Blacks playing basket all were like gazelles in their ability to jump and run fast.

  3. Most Asian cultures eat foods that even most wild animals will not consume.

  I could go on. But I think it is obvious...

  Our congregation in NYC in the 80s had a co arrive to break up the racism.

  They refused to appoint black elders or ms and the attendants would ask black brothers to get up and move to the rear and seat white brothers and new comers in those spots.

  Brother angelokis came in to solve the issue. Then two years later... the white friends left and went to a more white friendly hall.

  20 years later in New Jersey the white brothers were counseled about not allowing black and Hispanic brothers parts on the c.o.

  Brother brown Payne comes in and shakes things up. All the white brothers leave the irvington congregations and travel to the Springfield congos...

  I have in-laws who live in Rockville Maryland. Pretty high-end area. They are Immigrants, they are liberals, they have great careers.

  Back in 2012/2013 they all yelled and screamed at me about how close-minded I was for not thinking sanctuary cities were a good idea, and how it would be a problem. I was an ignorant d-bag in their eyes, and a xenophobic American. They railed about how immigrants add spice to a community etc.. etc.. etc...

  A few years later they are closet republicans and are irate at how badly immigrants are eroding the values of the city, depleting resources, destroying schools and bringing in huge amounts of crime. Gang members in 5 star schools, graffiti appearing everywhere, drugs, and the feeling that a multicultural city is being torn to shreds.

  I told them, "you thought everything was fine and dandy when Obama was selling you the sob stories, well now you get to deal with the aftermath".
