DC Seating

okay, how many of you got to the convention site nice and early so that you could get the best seats on the house?.

having met in yankees stadium (difficult for me as i'm a mets fan) i always made sure i was in the shade.

hey someone had to come in early and make those watchtower hoagies (by the way, i never washed my hands).

They did not listen to the program or even join in the songs and prayers. Rather, they talked with one another and ate snacks throughout the session, taking little interest in what was being presented from the platform. Their conduct was very distracting to those around them. This illustrates the problems that can develop if parents are permissive and do not sit with or control their children.

Geez......that sounds like that might have been us......

One year at the DC--and I was 16 in 1986--me and my friends took up an entire row at the DC......completely from one end to the other. No parents, just a whole, whole bunch of JW teens. We giggled, passed notes, ate snacks.......and at one memorable point, all fell asleep simultaneously. Just an entire row of teenagers sacked out asleep right smack dab in the assembly. People all the way on the other side of the stadium saw AND complained. BOY, did we get in trouble.

yesterday, i was in court and was sitting in the front row going through my paperwork waiting to see if the defendant will show, i look across the walk way and there is a very large latina girl sitting directly across from me.

she was wearing a short little black dress that had a slit all the way up to ass cheek, her boobs were nearly popping out, her little black dress shoes looked as if she was baking bread in them.

now don't get me wrong i have nothing against full figured girls, however there are limits, i mean did she not know that when she sat down her dress went up over her ass?

I remember popping into a fast-food place, just for a bit of a lunch, when in walked an entire group of the filthiest, smelliest, sloppiest, most slovenly group of people (all white) I have ever seen. Turns out they were having a birthday party at this restaurant, much to our dismay.

The women were attired in too-small shirts that were literally see-through with grease and sweat. Hair was limp and bedraggled. Teeth were missing. All exposed skin--and there was a lot--was grimy and dirty. Some of them were not wearing shoes. The kids (including the birthday guest) had that mask of dirt and snot going diagonally across each of their faces, from repeated wiping.

We were prepared to grit our teeth and stay long enough to finish our meal--until I caught sight of three particular items. One of them was the saggy pants of one of the young girls, who appeared to be some sort of white-chocolate-thug-life-ride-or-die chick/pseudo punk-rocker. Her baggy jeans looked as if somebody--literally--soaked them in urine and mud for about 2 months, then dragged them behind a pickup truck. The skin showing in the jeans holes was GRAY...GRAY. Not dingy pink, not dirty peach, but GRAY. Nobody was wearing clothing in their size. Everybody was dirty and in too-small clothes except this young girl.

The other items was the bare feet of one of the men. AND the bottom of his exposed beer belly. The instant I caught sight of these, both my husband and I lost our appetites, tossed our food in the trash, and bolted. I've never seen a sight quite like that one--close, but not quite--before or since.

Your View On BREASTFEEDING In Public

last night on the news a woman was told by a store manager that she could not in public breastfeed her child.

she and her husband were quite offended and complained to the company's main offices.

they are now looking into this situation.. what's your opinion?

HA!!! I want you to trot on over to my hometown and point out a Walmart or a Target that has "special parking for mothers." I know they exist, but not where I am. Oh, maybe I'm supposed to drive about 45 minutes to do my shopping at one.

Again.....99-degree weather in the shade, car sitting outside. Makes NO difference how "close" the car is, it will still be boiling hot. I have never been to any public parks here that were as nasty at the public bathrooms I have seen. I would not sit next to a dirty homeless person to breast-feed. Your "argument" makes absolutely no sense. If you don't like it, turn your head away. Nobody's forcing a gun to your head to watch. UGH. I'm out of here.

Honey, we're not talking high school bathrooms here. Though I can't recall any such care being taking with the cleaning of the restrooms at my high school

.....Unfortunately, I have rarely been in public restrooms where the keepers were so conscientious. Most of them are hellious affairs with dirty tissue strewn everywhere, shit smeared every-damn-where INCLUDING splattered on the walls (good luck trying to find a clean bowl to sit your ass down on), and used maxi pads and tampons thrown willy-nilly all over the place. None of the aforementioned is exactly odorless.

I REFUSE to take my child into such filthy surroundings and attempt to sit down (scratch that-- I mean, balance on a nasty toilet bowl) and try to "relax" for a feeding--and let's not forget the woman in the neighboring stall with the running shits squirting and funking up the entire area. And the car? HA HA HA....in 98-degree weather? How about how hot a car gets sitting out in a vast, bare concrete parking lot? And I'm supposed trek 1,000 miles from the mall to the car in the hot blazing sun, kid screaming all the while, and then wait for the A/C to kick in while my baby is screaming for food?

I have breastfed my child in restaurants, in stores, everywhere. I always had a nice-sized blanket or a big fabric sling that allowed me to pull up the excess fabric around us. I get so sick of the "whipping-it-out", I have rarely seen any women "whip it out" when it was time to feed her baby. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I've never personally seen that. Most of us are just trying to handle our business and get our babies fed with a mininum of fanfare.

Boy do I regret opening this thread......

absolutely mint condition, i was thrilled.. what bargains have you all gotten?

I found my lunchbox--the one I last saw in first grade, 1976.

It is made from vinyl (I think) in a pink-and-white gingham pattern. It has a cone of strawberry ice cream and strawberries on the front. I managed to obtain the complete set, thermos, cup and all.

I was floored when I found it on Ebay. My mom almost cried when I showed it to her.

I'm addicted to pharmacy drug rep pens, too; I've copped some pretty good finds on Ebay. The heavy, metal pens that the pharmacists always get, while we lowly techs always got the dinky plastic ones.

When some catastrophe does happen, the human element is ignored and some application to Jehovah destroying the wicked comes to mind. Even the tsunamis generated next to nothing in compassion and mercy from JWs for the tens of thousands that died. This expectation of Armageddon has made several generations of JWs void of human compassion and feeling for their fellow man. Disgusting when you really think about it.

Forgive me, but these statements bring to mind some pretty disgusting comments my father (longtime, staunch elder) made about the tsunami victims.

When I asked him if he'd heard about the tragedy, he stated that he'd heard that "some stupid fools" were "stupid enough" to be out there gathering fish after the waters receded, right before the waves hit. He stated that "those fools should have known that something was wrong and tried to run." I was shocked into silence; I guess it did not matter that many of "those fools" were children intrigued by the colors of fish not normally seen in shallow waters.

I can't help but wonder if they'd still be considered "fools" if they'd been JW's in good standing. You stated exactly what I have been trying to articulate for some time. I was saddened to hear such a comment from my father.

No human love/compassion/empathy at all--how unlike Jesus is that? It gets more and more difficult to relate to my JW family as normal people as time goes by.

The "fulfillment of Bible prophecy" staunches any human empathy for others. Truly disgusting.

High rates of depression in Org.

i noticed after being a jw for a while that many members of my congregation were having to take antedepressants.

(i counted at least 30 out of 100).

after a few years i too began to have bouts of depression and problems with anxiety.

I know of several Witnesses who committed suicide. My wife's uncle, a young married Witness we were friends with, the lady who had the Tuesday book study at her home committed suicide Tuesday night after the book study after we had all left.

Frankly, I think all of the Witness people I know are depressed, neurotic, or psychotic. When the ideal to aspire to is paranoid, delusional, and fatalistic, it's easy to see why so many are mentally ill. I am trying to think of some rational, well Witnesses. I can think of some but they are not Witnesses any more. I think the well, rational Witness is driven out of the organization.

Everything in this post rang true. If you weren't in South Dakota, I'd swear you were in my former congregation.

I know that both my mom and my youngest sister are depressed, as in severely. Even if they never left the org (which I honestly don't see happening anytime soon), I'd rather see them on some sort of medication, because my sister is suicidal and my mom loses touch with reality sometimes. My sister actually was diagnosed as severely depressed and was on medication but I do not know if she's continuing to take it. I'm not sure if I want my mom to babysit my infant on a regular basis.

My mom is on an express train hurtling towards Nervous Breakdown, not a question of if, but when.....

Public talk over time

after two hours, he mumbles, "sorry if i have gone over-time but i left my watch at home.

Oh yes, definitely remember those days.

On one summer Thursday night, it was sweltering hot, packed, and the air-conditioner had broken down.

This one brother ("Brother Dictator" who was always lording it over his brood, would do things like accept dinner invitations at other dub's homes while his family of 7 waited in their old panel truck) had the very last part on "The School" and relished his "power" over the sweating masses. You could almost see the grin on his face as he droned on and on. He couldn't quite completely contain his glee, and just had to slip in a remark about how he knew we were ready to go, but spiritual food came first.

Adult orthodontic patients...anyone?

i have a question:.

if you have a retainer, do you wear it?.

i haven't worn my retainer in about six months, and the periodontist told me on a recent visit that i need to go ahead and wear it, or my teeth will all revert back to their original positions (not pretty; my teeth were pretty busted-looking before braces) he says that because i'm an adult it will happen much faster than a child's or teen's.. i've tried unsuccessfully to keep it on for sustained periods for the last 24 hours, and it just hurts too much to wear.

I'm thinking hard....I was still pregnant when they were taken off, so I'm thinking maybe last November-to-January-ish.

Can they really put the braces back on for free? I'd think they wouldn't have to stay on for long, am I right? Also, if wisdom teeth are removed after the retainer's been made, would the retainer have to be redone to accomodate the changes?
