I think my favorite was the blood donation sign, with the newspaper submission a close second.
I wouldn't do it, but I'd laugh like hell if I saw it. Even when I was still in, I'd have laughed.

in 1984 (shudder!
) my bud mark smith and i picketed the kingdom hall in ann arbor, michigan.
our signs had a watchtower drawn on them and said 'this religion is a snare and a racket!

my husband called me this afternoon to tell me that he drove by the lakewood congregation (on madison ave.) and it is closed, boarded up!
hurrah!.
i only hope this means that there is waning interest in this area and they don't have a large enough congregation, and not that they're building a larger place elsewhere..
Thanks for the info, ?me?, I guess I'm disappointed that they aren't just closing up shop and going away. Are you in/from the Cleveland area?
i heard plenty of members did not want to sell, but the regional building committee and the local elders( at the rpc's urging) pushed it big time
Surprise, surprise. My dad is an RBC honcho down in the Akron area, largely because he's in the construction trade. (He has an extremely shoddy work ethic (e.g., problems with work he's done on his own house) & I can't believe that he directs the quick-builds! )
The congregation I grew up in was divided into two congs back in the late 80s, and anyone who voted against the split was viewed as a troublemaker. I remember my mom commenting about who voted no, and how they didn't want to see "progress," and "we could lose the Holy Spirit over this!" and other crazy stuff...

I have no contact whatsoever with local congregations, so I have no idea what is going on. Anyone in the area that can offer insight?
what would it be?
for me i would get rid of the disfellowshipping!
Simple: Encourage real public discussions and questioning of the official doctrines.

so my brother and i have been having talks about what will happen when our dad passes away eventually.
most of his brothers and sisters have died in their 50's or early 60's.
i flat out refuse to attend any part of the service that would be done at the kingdom hall.
No way, no how. I will not subject myself to the recruitment seminars that are JW weddings & JW funerals. I'll send flowers in sympathy to my sister, but I will not attend a JW funeral, even at a funeral home.
how many have recieved calls by the elders that were under the guise of "shepherding", but somehow inappropriate, i.e, you were a woman alone with only one elder showing up, or you felt physically intimidated by both.
or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.
and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!
whats higher than a zone overseer?Twighlight zone overseer?
LOL, cracking me up...
I know of a 35 y/o elder who was "shepherding" a 16 y/o girl after her father committed suicide... within the year he'd left his wife, gotten DFed and when his divorce was final he married the 16 y/o and got reinstated. I think he's an elder again.
(This was my ex-husband's uncle.)
this is why as i was growing up (raised in "the truth") i never asked questions.
i never understood the birthday issue among other holidays.
i never asked because i was scared i would be looked at as an apostate or as someone being worn down by the wicked association.
You mean ones like "So, when DID you stop beating your wife and kids, Brother Closetdrinker?"
LOL
By asking questions, you force them to face their own inadequacies. I mean, how many JWs do you know that can show you from scripture how they arrived at 1914 as the return of Christ? Most of them have to go "look it up" in JW literature and make copious notes (or ask an elder to explain it).
You would think that such a core tenet of their belief system would have an easy explanation that would roll off the tongue of every JW.
here's a transcript of a post about the 2005 godly obedience convention (which i read about on this board and seemed to highlight a drama in which a biblical story was highly distorted in order to discourage higher education) from a jw youth group on www.myspace.com.

hey everyone!
Agape to all! :-)
Ugh... my mouth is agape at the stupidity of it all...
Those are my points exactly. Nobody is going to support them when they are 40.
No kidding... not to mention when they're old and can't afford to retire from window-washing since they never saved any money or planned financially for retirement since Armageddon is coming and investing in mutual funds is equivalent to gambling...
i was assimilated at birth... .
my maternal grandparents came to england in the early 1940s, and learnt the troof here.
my grandfather opposed my grandmother for a while, but then he decided it wasn't worth the fight and studied the blue "troof book" and my grandparents got baptised at the same assembly.
Mom & her sibs were raised in religious vaccuum without any spiritual direction. Her sister met a guy, wanted to date him, he was a JW so she converted. Aunt & Uncle converted Mom. Mom converted step-dad and they raised me & my half-sibs in the Borg.
Spiritually blackmailed into getting baptized at 14; DFed at 19, walked away and haven't looked back.
so i have seen many anti experience threads etc.
my father (a jw elder) has had several businesses for a number of years.
(thanks dad i'll follow your example really well and become an excellent business person.
Would any of you hire a muslim?
Sure, as long as he doesn't constantly refer to me as "the infidel" and keeps taking smoke breaks to check on the explosives in his car.
I'd make a point of saying how involved the store is in planning for various holidays, everyone is required to participate in putting up decorations, holiday functions, etc. Or, mention that everyone chips in for birthday treats, would that be an issue...
