most who write here, don't belive in the jw teachings.. most are complainers and apostate.. does any one know were i can find a genuine jw site?
I LOVE SHEL SILVERSTEIN! So sad to hear of his passing a few years back. Had all his books as a kid, read them thin (when I wasn't reading the pink Great Teacher book, a'course)!

here's how the kingdom hall in weston super mare looks today.. can you think of any better uses for your kingdom hall?.

One hall in my area has been converted to a Mason's meeting hall. Another was purchased by a Russian group. It was later used by the Russian mafia. A third stands empty, and has for 3 or 4 years now.
Many halls in the area are being sold and the congregations combined, from what I hear. We can only hope that the numbers continue to dwindle.

Questioning requires being open and honest with yourself and your beliefs.
Does anyone else think it ironic that JWs take pride in being sheep? "Following their master's (GB) voice? Led to the slaughter?

i dont know if some of you remember but about 8 months ago i recieved a telephone call from the luvvin bruvvers and they wanted to talk to me re my "apostate" veiws.
i told them that i would take legal action against them and to only contact me through letter.
i recieved this today.
To an uninformed reader, the letter makes them sound truly concerned for your welfare (Sister Garlic. I *love* that!).
It turns my stomach to think that my own father writes letters like this to "inactive" members of his own congregation.

several have made outright statements and others have suggested that the society's negative position on higher education has changed.
'the society does not discourage higher education where i live.
' worse, 'apostates have made it all up--the society has never discouraged education.

over the years, circuit servants and then circuit overseers came and went.
i can only recall a handfull because the rest were unimpressive or i was not real active during the visit of some.
most cos that i recall were humdrum with perhaps some single interesting feature or personality quirk.

I've never received a satisfactory answer to this question... how did you know that you were one of the Anointed? At what age? What did you feel that being "of the Anointed" meant for you personally? Did others doubt you/make comments about this? How do you feel about it now?
I remember my Mom explaining it like this... "you know that you're a girl, don't you? Well, just as you know that you're a girl, the Remnant knows that they are of the Anointed."
I never had the guts to say to her, "yeah, but I can *prove* that I'm a girl!"
Sorry for being so inquisitive... it's just one of those things that I've always wondered about...

the great depression had more to do with shaping the character and defining the last century than any other event, except the great wars that caused and followed the depression.
the structure of the financial system though has radically changed since that time, in that it is many times larger, global in fact, and it is much more fragile and complex, in that it reacts nearly instantaneously to various factors.
the average person is now much more dependent upon and indebted to the system as well.

Americans are far more patient and committed than they are given credit for. We fight and debate, but when a crisis comes around we stand together.
In the last U.S. Presidential election, Americans were upset with the issues of the electoral college vs. popular vote, the recounts etc. but never did we erupt into violence. Picketing and demonstraing, yes, but never violence. We waited patiently for democracy to do its job. Some agreed with the outcome and some disagreed, but ultimately we were logical and law-abiding. Some countries would have absolutely dissolved under such circumstances.

as i sit in front of my computer in a drunken stupor wondering what might have been, i felt i had to post my story to those who might truly understand what i am going through.. i am a newbie here, but have been lurking around for the last few weeks.
i am 25 years old, from ontario, and totally heartbroken.. to give you some background, back in 1998, i studied with the witnesses because some friends of mine, whom i believe to be honest and sincere people, gave me (i thought at the time) some good advice to start a book study.
i did, and i really enjoyed it because i felt they presented everything factually and had a strong interpretation of the scriptures (i'm a facts man, you see).
Welcome, Jeremy, sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I feel your pain.
This reminds me of the suckiest breakup I ever had.
I caught a guy cheating on me (JW) and I was miserable for quite a while afterwards. Eventually I had an epiphany -- I would get over this. I really liked the guy, I felt like a total worthless heel, but I realized that time would heal me and I'd get past it. And I was right. And it didn't take nearly as long as I thought.
Eventually, I got my revenge. But that's another thread entirely...
