Dwindling attendance and other trends

i've noticed in my congregation that attendance does not have the priority that it once did.

it seems like on any given theocratic ministry school meeting there will be at least one or two subsitutions.

some of the younger elders and ministerial servants tend to miss quite a few meetings and others have the habit of arriving 30 minutes after the meeting has started.

Leander, I probably know you.

Harvey West? Harvey East? Harvey Central? What?

I live in Markham, and attended Canterbury Congregation on 159th Street for the first 18 years of my life.

If you have been in the JW organization long, you probably know my grandfather... Br Claude Gause, and I probably know your name at the very least. He was chummy with some of the elders in Harvey.. Webster Barnes, William Bell Sr.. etc.

I visited that Harvey Hall on Sibley Blvd many times. We have probably seen each other at either the KH, Circuit Assembly in Romeoville, or District at Hawthorne Race Track.

Who are you really? ;)

What congregation do you attend in the Chicago area? I am from the south Chicago suburbs and am fairly familiar with all the congregations in Illinois Circuit 20A and 20B.. as well as a few North and West Suburbs congregations.

Whats the worst 'get-together' game you endured?

as a young teenager, we were always having get-togethers.... you know the spiritually upbuilding' kind ie.

bible quizzies, really boring stuff.

HANDS DOWN. I do not know one individual that was a teen that ever enjoyed playing this monotonous, droll, wearisome game.

Looking back now I should have found a way to drink heavily before going to the Witness party. At least then it would have been tolerable.

Inculcation versus setting an example

jw's quote proverbs 22:6, "train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

" now, training in the witness world, as you all know, has to do with meetings, underlining text, making comments at the watchtower study and the book study.

that is how you are supposed to raise a child.. now, my children are an interesting experiment.

It IS true. The JW breed insane children. Every person I grew up with had emotional problems, including myself.

Only after getting OUT of the Borg did ANY of us straighten out. The ones who remain in the Borg are still emotionally unstable.

Hell, with their inculcated beliefs of the imminent death of BILLIONS, the hypocrisy of the older ones being so apparent, the mindcontrol, the reversed priorities, the sheer LUNACY of ALL of it... how could you NOT be troubled growing up in that environment?

Memorial policy. Is that true all over?

i was interested in the post earlier today, about how the 'emblems' were not passed to the disfellowshipped people at the memorial.. does anyone know if this is the policy now, or was it an isolated incident?.

my husband, a former elder, said he had never heard of that being done before.

but we've been gone for 4 years too.. marilyn (aka mulan).

I dont know about other places, but in the South Chicago suburbs in a congregation called Canterbury Congregation in Markham, Illinois.. this WAS the practice.

At the Memorial they had a DF row.. and the emblems were subsequently passed by the entire row so that the DF ones were not even given the emblems to hold.

In hindsight, why would someone submit themselves to such humiliation? How many souls are needlessly driven to depression and psychosis?

I truly do hate the WT.

Amen larc. I couldn't agree more.

How many "worldly" people have raised their kids with wholesome values and integrity? Look at the firefighters and paramedics at the WTC. Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, etc. among them. Yet they LOVINGLY and WILLINGLY gave their own lives to save absolute strangers.

NOTHING TO DO with the JW's.. and these brave men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice.

In retrospect, it makes you sick now thinking about thw JW
spin-tactic on how wicked worldly people are now doesnt it? I know it makes me angry.

2. The entire Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses tried and convicted of crimes against humanity including genocide and terrorism, with the subsequent dismantling of the Watchtower Society.

3. NBA and NCAA basketball removed as a sport with national television broadcasts on EVERY DAMN CHANNEL.

4. The government to finally prioritize careers of importance, increasing wages and providing retroactive backpay to all firefighters, paramedics, and police officers while capping the salary of all professional athletes to a median income of the average American citizen.
