  The article is interesting as it helps to understand a party's perspective. But besides this, it doesn't offer a single argument why shunning constitutes coercion. Not to mention the flawed claims like this one:

  Freedom of worship is a part of the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ and is not ‘an organizational right’.

  (c'mon, it's the ABC's of human rights law that these rights can be exercised both individually and collectively, through groups, communities and organizations)

  it's not a secret that during the last two years watchtower obtained nearly 40 dmca subpoenas requiring google, facebook, instagram, twitter, soundcloud, scribd, reddit and other isps to provide personal information of users that allegedly infringed the society's copyright.. since subpoena proceeding is ex parte, almost all the requests were granted.. but one of the affected users contacted, on advice of youtube's legal team, the electronic frontier foundation (eff), and the foundation found a law firm ready to represent him pro bono, namely garvey schubert barer:.

  youtube's legal department emailed the user on or about july 10, 2018, five days before the subpoena's return date, stating that it would comply with the subpoena unless it received a file-stamped motion to quash "or other type of formal objection before july 20, 2018.

  The article lists nearly 40 books written by former members of polygamous Mormon groups, nearly three dozens of ex-Scientologists' biographies, and only 11 ex-LDS memoirs. It's interesting how the first two groups are grossly overrepresented, while the latter one is underrepresented (assuming the list is pretty exhaustive).

  A lovely review of Barefoot's writings was recently published in Wuhan Journal of Cultic Studies by an Italian professor at a Moroccan university. It shows how his contribution to the world of ideas wasn't limited to the weird theory discussed in this thread. For example, his posts on a different topic, namely C. S. Lewis' argument from reason, were repeatedly used and discussed by philosopher Victor Reppert, which is pretty impressive, given that Barefoot has no college degree..
