Feeling sorry...
by TR in...for the average jw as i see them out in door to door work.
i shake my head and think; they just don't know.
or maybe they do, but are in a dilemma similar to thousands if not millions right now.

Frenchy, while I agree with you to a great extent, the fact is that even though you had to deal with many obstacles (and I must say I admire you for utilizing the intelligence you had rather than complaining), the fact is that you had the basic equipment to get ahead (i.e. you are a white male).
Without some sort of affirmative action, women were shut out of many areas....never even given the chance to show what they could do. It didn't matter how hard a woman tried to better herself, she was considered "unable" to do "men's" work and never given the chance to prove otherwise.
I lost a job when I was 25 simply because I wouldn't "put out" for a supervisor. This was before there were laws about discrimination, so I could do nothing. I was single and supporting myself, and I was out on the street with no job not because I had done a bad job, but simply because I rebuffed a man's sexual advances. He kept his job, and he caused many other women to lose theirs until at one point there were laws against it, and one of his victims sued the company.
It's true that many people are misusing the laws. However, I do think that they're needed.

Ah, yes, I well remember dusting chairs as a small child. Eventually, I worked my way up and was given the responsibility of cleaning the toilets. I was SO proud.....NOT!!

Thank You Ray Franz.
by Martini inhello friends,.
in a thread over at witnesses.net entitled "society bracing for law suits" fellow jw's are taking swipes at ray franz.
not too long ago, while i was still under the wt spell i also would have similarily spoken abusively of ray.

Ah, yes....paranoia. I well remember the fear and loathing that could be evoked by someone uttering the words "evil slave" or "apostate".
Ray Franz is simply a man who disagreed with the regime and who wrote down his experiences as a JW. I have never heard of him actively campaigning the overthrow of the WTBTS, but you would think from the hysteria he stirs up in the rank and file that he is at this moment sitting in a tank outside Brooklyn headquarters threatening to blow the place up.
And you are correct, I believe, when you state that this "Ray bashing" only serves to strengthen the cult image of the JW's and will most likely cause more people (including active JW's) to read Ray's books. (We can only hope )

Waiting....a suggestion for you (and I think your husband will like this one). You can STILL wear jewelry and good heels.....and nothing else. (hehehe) No sense letting those good things go to waste.

Having some fun
by Scorpion injust picture this.. two jehovah's witnesses walking through the local mall or shopping center on saturday morning doing what most active jws do on saturday.
trying to get in their hours to report to big brother, or in this case, mother.. the two witnesses are doing street work.
one of the witnesses is a well known jw elder in the congregation.

Well, well, well.....looks like JW's are just like every other religion that they've taken great pains to condemn. Thanks for making this point clear. Seems that they aren't all that "separate from the world" as they care to believe....like this is news to us....DUH!
This is exactly why I no longer espouse religiosity, which IMO is from men. I rather try to develop a sense of spirituality.
Once again, the fool has made him/herself evident by expounding on the obvious, 7 O' 10.

I find it interesting to note the differences between men and women in listing things they like.
Males were allowed to become more fully involved in the group. Women were always pushed to the side. Our input was neither solicited nor wanted.
I was always a shy, private person. Field service was torture, as was giving talks. Anything else I could have possibly enjoyed was forbidden to me as a woman.

I do kind of miss the "social club" atmosphere, even though I was generally on the fringes and never quite fit.
I also liked going to District Assemblies all over the country. It was the only opportunity I ever had to travel. I'd combine an assembly with vacation, and that made it quite enjoyable.

The "truth"
by Pathofthorns incheck out this little clip from witnet.

i guess the "truth" is true, even when its not true.

Now, Ang, you KNOW how this whole thing works.
As JW's, whatever we have been told at the moment is the "truth". If it turns out later that it wasn't the "truth", it was simply that the light wasn't bright enough to see the "real truth" so we were taught a pseudo-truth, so to speak, to fill in until the present "truth" becomes evident (until it is re-revealed, of course).
If this situation occurs in any other religious group, however, JW's are fully justified in preaching against the "lies" taught by these other religions, and the "changeable doctrine" (which is, of course, anathema to Jehovah, who requires that we learn the "truth", which does not change....unless it is subject to "new light" which makes change not only allowable, but beneficial and good). Of course, we must understand that Jehovah doesn't always allow us to see the complete "truth" because the FDS is made up of imperfect men who make mistakes....even though they are guided by the Holy Spirit, which is, of course, perfect, but which at times takes coffeebreaks at inopportune moments it would seem.
Now......how could you possibly question this logic?
