HERE'S A BOMBSHELL ABOUT THE 144,000 DOCTRINE......
by Mary injust when you think you've heard it all............in my research for my project, i was doing some digging around on the subject of the 144,000 and came across something in the wts's literature that absolutely stunned me and, being the generous soul that i am , wanted to pass it on to you to get your thoughts on this.. .
we all know that the society teaches that the 144,000 mentioned in revelation is speaking of "spiritual israel" and not 'fleshly israel' or even other christians in general right?
there are countless quotes throughout the literature that we are all familiar with that specifically state this, but to drive home a point, here are a few:.

When I was reading the bible finally with clear eyes, I was dumbstruck by how simple the little flock/other sheep thing is. The little flock is Israel. The other sheep are non Jews. Doh!! -

They may say that no, he doesn't have to stop being gay, he just has to not act on it for his whole life. This will entail never having a relationship with anyone. You will be lonely forever. So go ahead and continue to be drawn to this sect if you are into that sort of thing. -

This entire forum, and a hundred like it, are dedicated to help people trying to recover from experiences such as mentioned above, just by letting people talk about what they've gone through trying to get out of it...and also people come here for support while they are trying to get out of it.
2 things I notice about your questions is that you don't like people knowing all your business, and you don't like cult like mentalities. That's what this particular religion is SO like. I know the person studying with you must be really a nice person. Most of them are really good people. It's just that this religion that controls them can also make them like heartless robot like creatures when the circumstances change.
I grew up witness, and because I decided to change my religion and become just a regular Christian, I lost my family. Not because they wanted to, but the organization tells them that they shouldn't speak to me.
I would be be very nice to this person that has been studying with you, but tell them this is not for you. They will try to gloss over things and make them seem rosy, but believe me, this is real.

I Feel So Much More Intelligent Now
by OneFingerSalute inwell i must say that after the serve us meeting tonight i feel so much more intelligent.
almost as if i had four years of college condensed into ten minutes.. that is what was spent going on about how to use the glossary in the back of the "wonderful" new revised bible.
we got a crash course on how to look up the words listed alphabetically.

I have no Real Friends!
by stuckinarut2 ini have come to a startling and sad realisation!.
i have no real friends!.
i have always been extremely active in every aspect of the org, since childhood.

You need to remember all the friends over the years who have fallen away or gotten df'd...find them in Facebook! This happened to me. Now I don't really have any witness friends, they are all people I grew up with who left along the way...and they are the best friends. We have so much fun together. We meet and have girlfriend days, and it's amazing how much more at peace and less angry and bitter they are now that they have left the org. So hunt them down and you will all be happy to be back together. -

Rev 17:9 - Thoughts?
by leaving_quietly inrev 17:9 describes something about the "woman", the harlot, babylon the great:.
here is where the intelligence that has wisdom comes in: the seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top.
and there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet arrived, but when he does arrive he must remain a short while.. i was dreaming about this verse last night, so i thought i'd look it up.

Londo111, Im right there with you. Jws and cults love talking about the weird stuff. Most Christians talk about what matters.
i spent some time wondering what Babylon the great really meant, and came to the conclusion it meant Rome, but I'm not completely convinced that's right. there have been many theories over the centuries. I've heard America, or Catholicism or Rome, predominately.

Seems just a few years ago they came out with the paper cover black one...what is with the new grey one? Why? What were their selling points about it?? Is it that they use simpler, more modern words? This is a big deal. Are there many changes in the actual wording of the verses? Have they gone even further from the oldest copies of scripture now? have they really changed it to more support their own ideology? I need to know!! I remember with the paperback black one they took out the parentheses for a scripture I think in Colossians where it says Jesus created all things...in the old edition they had added '(other) things' , and in the newer addition had changed it to 'other things'...suggesting they hadn't made any changes to the original texts!

Thought I would introduce myself
by WateredDown ini have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.
some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.
i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

Steve2, that's so true. Put in your 2 hours on Saturday, answer your one or two times on Sunday, give your talk a couple times a year, go to the assemblies. All the rest of the time it was super shallow talk about vacations and mountain biking or hockey, there was a burgeoning population of 'foodies' in my former hall, pleasure seekers. But when you can't talk about really meaningful things and how you really feel, and don't try to spend any time really improving the world, what is there but pleasure. -

I can't participate with a game because... JW
by Sir cid fatos inhey guys.
i, as a muslim, play with two other muslim play together soccer with jw friends (we play against other jw's).
really nice guys!
-

Ser cid.....your friends, they were being liberal to play soccer with you, because you are what the witnesses call 'worldly'....you are not one of them, you are Muslim. Then their more conservative witness friends came along and say 'they are worldly and not good association for us, they are different and we are supposed to only associate with witnesses.' And then you are out of the soccer games. This is because their religion tries to control everything, like who they spend their free time with. It's maybe like if you had friends who were Jewish, and your other friends who are stricter Muslim don't appreciate this and want them off the team.
All religions have extremists, and these other witnesses are more extreme. Lucky are the children whose parents are not extreme!
