Wrestling with change, technology, jealousy, and spiritual need...
by silent inhey gang, i'm a fader and i've made a few posts in the past, but i mostly lurk.
i had a visit with a family member the other night and they know how i feel about my life as a witness growing up.
my life as a witness was not fun, i had no friends "in the truth," was picked on relentlessly in school, and basically my life as a witness left me with not one real good memory.

Do some research! Examine every witness teaching, read apologist Christian sites about these teachings, look at both sides. There IS spiritual life outside of the org, I'm so glad I'm where I'm at now. They are mixed up in so many ways, don't take it for granted they're right about their teachings. Everything you've learned has been through their bible and their angles. Look elsewhere. -

The way the witnesses twist the simplicity of communion and who receives it has always confounded me. Strange teachings. Thanks for the thread, and I like your scriptures. -

WT now promoting literature officially at book fairs
by StarTrekAngel incan there really be any doubt now on how commercial it is?
if you thought the new kh design seemed commercial in nature, now imagine one of those halls turned into a jw store.
we know they exist.

That store would see less traffic than a small town history museum in the middle of the desert -

Did you go to your prom or belong to a "worldly" club while you were a witness?
by minimus ini didn't go to the prom but i did belong to a chess club until the awake article said it was a war game and suggested true christians wouldn't play such a game.

I didn't get to do any of these things. This is why life is a little frustrating now...I want my kids to embrace fully what high school is all about, and do EVERYTHING...but nope, they have to 'rebel' against the whole high school scene. 'Oh, that's so high school.' DRIVES ME CRAZY! If I could do it again, I'd study my ass off, be in every club possible, go to every game and dance, and esp. try out for the plays and musicals!!! And run for president!

Faders: did local JWs give you a going away party?
by Open mind infor those who choose to fade, leaving your old congregation is often a first step.
did you switch congos while stll in "good standing" (tm)?
if so, did the local jws try to give you a going away party?

They gave us a beautiful going away party.
I still feel guilty about it , I tried to stop them as hard as a I could.
anyway.
Giordano, I think about leaving the religion every time I hear john Lennon's 'wheels'
i'm just sittin here watching the wheels go round and round,
i really love Watch em roll
no longer riding on the merry go round
i just had to let it go
next time you hear it, listen to the verses too. It really fits.

Is the UN really the disgusting thing?
by StarTrekAngel inbeen dwelling on this for a while.
was there any particular history on this or anywhere where the wt picked up someone else's doctrine?.
in most cases, the bible uses the word "disgusting thing" to refer to idols, idolatry and false religion.

This is a great thread, STAngel, and vidiot really good points. Blondie, I had forgotten about 1919 being the League of Nations formation...,and of course if Christians were behind it, the witnesses were going to be against it. -

The ridiculous thing is how they call the UN 'boastful' for simply hoping to establish peace and save children from dying in war and prevent disease and poverty (UNICEF, anyone?) as if their motives were bad. -

The UN is a mostly amazing somewhat flawed organization.
I think witnesses hate it because they see God's Kingdom as a competitor to earthly governments, and an org hoping to create peace between nations without God intervening and Armageddon happening first is disgusting to them.
I agree with Londo that it's Rome, and think Babylon the Great is Rome too.

New Apostate: Tempest in a Teacup
by Tempest in a Teacup infirst post on here.
i've been lurking for 3-4 years and i mean i've been a mega lurker, doing marathon reading sessions for months or weeks.. sometimes i proceed by researching specific topics, or posters; other times just reading current discussions.
i'm particularly fond of "old" post, i.e 10-12-15 years ago.. i have laughed, smiled, got mad, cried etc, just reading some threads here.. as you can see i suffer from some kind of "accute lurkitis".

Yes I'm very curious about what part of the world you are in. South America? Southern Europe? Africa? You are very eloquent, do not feel self conscious about your English!
I, like you, am not turning atheist, ever, but like DofC could not fake it. That period of fading out was the most hellish period I ever went through. I am very outspoken, and to bridle my tongue and just suffer through the BS was miserable. But also, I found what path I wanted to go on during that time.
It's surprising you never want to get out of it, and I'm hoping later in life you can live free eventually. It's much better on the outside, but you don't realize it yet.
