It's always been so interesting to me that they are so picky about recording prayers, oh they are soooo sacred!.....when their prayers are obviously not talking to God, but talking to people....reviewing points they want people to remember from their talks, or showing off how well they were listening to the meeting, as if God needs to be reminded what was talked about. -

The thing is, you can go to any other church and hear that talk any given Sunday, and it's not a rebel preaching it...it is how everyone believes and tries to act. -

Atheist Miracles
by Perry ini reworded a variation of a common critique of atheists to my own liking.
no, i do not hate atheists, i love them!
they keep me from getting bored.

I 'liked' both of your posts because you are a kick. You're like a witness and householder arguing at a door. Always entertaining, and lucky to find, since it kept me from having to take the next door myself. Remember that? Heaven! -

I agree jwiq, I would have liked to ask him some questions too, esp about the trinity, and I do wonder how he would address atheist questions.
Im actually half through 'in search of Christian freedom'...I rushed through CoC but this one have taken extremely slowly, I think because I am sad he is dead and these are the last words from him to read.

The three wise men
by Simon injust a thought.... looking through the greatest man book, something just occurred to me which i can't recall has ever been highlighted (but please correct me).. i always thought it a bit strange that jehovah allowed the three pagan astrologers to find jesus especially as they were obviously guided to him by satan's star (remember they were led to herod first who wanted to kill the messiah).
what purpose did it serve?.
well, a few pages earlier in tgm book, we see mary presenting a dove as a sin offering at the temple - this was the cheapest offering that was acceptable which must have meant that they were pretty poor at the time.. shortly after the three wise men visited the family had to flee to egypt when herod started to kill all the young boys in an attempt to kill jesus.. what would they need to travel and live as exiles for a couple of years?.

Need quick help- Have to ask wife a question
by StarTrekAngel inconversation came up this morning and i need to get into my wife's head.
mother in law was talking and she said something her mother (who was not a jw) use to say.
i laughed uncontrollably because it was really funny.

I think it might mean her mother is more of a 'true believer' than she is. Maybe she also believes, but even when I was a believer I would roll my eyes when someone said something so overly sappy and that we had heard so often. -

I don't see the attraction either. But introvert, I do like where you are going with this...to support the downtrodden within the org. I don't agree with you about witness doctrine, but if it works for you and you aren't going to hurt anyone that's fine. The more truly loving people in the org, that's fine with me. Might spread some seeds. -

I'm still waiting for my JW elder friend who said, I'll get back to you right away.
by John Aquila indid the resurrection start in 1918/1919 or the first century?.
the wt teaches that the anointed started getting resurrected sometime around 1918/1919.
before that everyone was asleep in the grave, including all the apostles.

Oubliette, I don't blame them for this tho. They are usually really, really overwhelmed with their own businesses and families and meetings and committees and writing talks... how can they have time to research the religions ridiculous doctrine in such a way they can prove it to others?
the ones you have to watch out for are the ones who don't have family at home and are unemployed. Way too much time on their hands for poking their noses into other people's business.
