Why I remain one of Jehovah's Witnesses
by Brother Jeramy inallow me to begin with a clarification: when i say i am one of jehovah's witnesses, i don't mean that i am an advocate of the watchtower society or a devotee of some of its more controversial false teachings.
i mean that i am a christian, a disciple of jesus christ dedicated to jehovah god, and who remains in union with my brothers and sisters who make up the family of faith that globally refers to itself as jehovah's witnesses.
some totally understand the distinction between the family of brothers and sisters and the corporate organization known as the watchtower society (wts).

I quite like my nelson's new King James study version. It's not portable tho, for that I use the Holman Christian standard bible. As a plus, the HCSB has Yahweh hundreds of times in the old test. But for study, I love the former.

How Do You Feel About All The Time You Wasted Being. A Jehovah's Witness?

My grandparents were educated people. There were two valedictorians in my family in that generation, and a class president. They were very active in their communities. All of that came to a screeching halt when my parents became witnesses, before I was born. Suddenly the world was ending and school wasnt important. They never made sure I did my homework. I watched cartoons for hours every day after school. It would have been great, I realized in hindsight, to have SOME parental guidance with that. I didn't start working at school until high school, and it was on my own, because I started to respect my teachers. Who KNOWS what I could have been in another life, what college I could have gotten into, if I wasn't born into this cult. Heck yes, I regret being brought up in this. But my children are wonderful, and without giving them TOO much pressure, because I think happiness is more important than 'success', I make sure they do their homework!! -

Interesting conversation with this pentecostal today at work. It made me think.
by joe134cd inat work today a colleague was telling me how his church had purchased a van for the sole purpose of caring for their youth.
he was saying every friday / saturday night the church organizes some event for its youth outside it's church services.
they also have other services to that are provided free of charge for its members.

Yeah, Pentecostals are a little heavy on the rules and a little freaky in many ways, but even they have way more fun than witnesses. I see their vans all the time, driving kids around to go have fun together. -

Will they jump of the building?
by John Aquila induring the depression people committed suicide because everything they had invested in was gone overnight in an instant.
many people are very fragile creatures.
if by some freaking chance, (like enron, tiger woods, or the morning of august 1945 in hiroshima) the wts gets caught in a humongous scandal, say like links to human sex trafficking, (i can fantasize right) and the government steps in to investigate and finds them guilty and legally shuts them down permanently, will there be tons of suicides?

If some huge scandal erupts, it will be Satan's lies, because he is like a roaring lion, and they will be sooo excited, because this was all supposed to happen anyway. Never mind other scandals that have destroyed other groups, theirs would be the only one that had no truth to it but was a complete facade, caused by Satan and the fulfillment of prophecy :/. -

I don't think it costs them that much money. All their musicians fly out to bethel on their own dime to play music for them unpaid. Wow have they got a cushy set up!
as I said in a similar thread, these creative orchestral arrangements of theirs make for a real botched singing session. Another grandiose idea that doesn't go over so well in reality.

Specific Comments By R&F About May Broadcast
by freemindfade ini know there are many posts discussing the may money requesting televangalism...er... broadcast i mean!
but i wanted to start one where anyone can put what they have heard any non-exjw, non-apostate witnesses say good or bad about the broadcast.
i don't see how it can't rattle followers... but then again i might be surprised how they can twist things (2+2=5).

My husband has done better out of the witness fold. He was really stressed out, tightly wound up, constantly yelling at the kids, throwing things. It was awful. I often considered leaving him because I didn't think it was a healthy environment. He followed me out of the religion and is much happier now and yells a lot less. He does more of what he wants and less of what he feels pressured to do, which has improved his happiness level and lowered his stress level. So, for him, leaving the religion has improved his personality!
Driving force, I'm really sorry it's turning out for you like this. I wish I knew what to say. She seems particularly bitter.

As a child, I remember feeling torn about being born into a witness family. On the one hand, i didn't fully believe all the mumbo jumbo and I wished i had been born into just a regular family so we could all just be normal. On the other hand, I felt so lucky to be born a witness, because had I not been, I knew I would have never believed them if they came to my door, and I would die at Armageddon if it was all true.
So, growing up a partial believer as I did, I got baptized to be good kid and make my parents happy. But doing it for that reason is going to come back and bite you. These kids who watch this video and are manipulated and feel they have to...it won't turn out well for them or their families.

Hardtobeme, I'm right there with you, in all aspects. It's something I never take for granted. I partake monthly at church and even administered communion at a senior care home last Sunday.
I haven't known many witness partakers. One sister from another hall came to our hall for the memorial--because she was about 40 and considered too young to be anointed and the brothers in her hall pressured her to stop, but she didn't believe she should. The p.o. in our hall told the ushers to not count her as partaking. She was really nice tho and I don't think she was crazy.
