A big hello and thank you

i just wanted to introduce myself and say a big hello to all of my mentally diseased friends.. i say friends because i have been lurking for some time so it feels like home (us lurkers are a bit scared and cautious so it takes a while).

i won't bore you with too many details, but i am a born in, currently serving as the cobe of a congregation.

my wife and i have pioneered for the last 10 years and were shaken awake by that ridiculous 15th july 2013 wt about the generation and 1914.. my wife who is much smarter than me has questioned for years.

No doubt you are already showing kindness and more mercy than usual in your position as cobe. People are probably noticing you are different than others. As you fade, people will remember these things, and knowing what a genuine person you are, it will help some others to reexamine their own thoughts on what a Christian should be. Noticing that the ones who stayed are less Christlike than the one who left. You have no idea how many people you will affect.

Boy, a lot of people here are from Australia! I'm sure some are using that as a front because it's so far away from the rest of the world...but I'll take your word for it :).

I am so happy you and your wife have found jesus in this. I did during my fade too, and I am so thankful. You may feel attacked sometimes on here for your faith, but know that many others share your faith on here. This place is like the Underground Railroad during American slavery. Helping people to be free, giving them guidance along the way, one step at a time.

Are You a 607 BCE Specialist?

hi guys & gals,.

we're currently preparing for the season finale of the show (to be recorded on sunday, may 24th at 2pm eastern time nyc / 6pm uk time / 4am sydney time.. as we're going to (finally) be covering 607 bce in detail, we're looking for a specialist (or two) that can come on the show and tell everyone about this almighty doctrine.

My answer to your question is a NO.

but I'm curious why the society hasn't conceded they got the 607 date wrong, because wouldn't that give them 20 more years of 'this generation', moving the date from 1914 to 1934? Yeah, they lose the WWI coincidence, but they gain 20 years for their false prophesy.

Any thoughts on this? Am I missing something?

(oh, besides the fact that they don't outright admit their own mistakes)

i think they could blame someone else, like "historians previously believed 607 to be the date Jerusalem was destroyed, but we have discovered that it was actually 587...". I think this would get the rank and file REALLY excited, and they would have a new date to work with, which is what they really want anyway. This organization LIVES on dates and that has been their obsession since the start. They could nullify their silly generation overlap thing, and, for 10 to 20 years, keep the singular generation thing going.

I actually don't remember how to calculate 1914 using 607, have thrown away my old live forever books, and am probably missing something big...

New light on more parables

well after a full watchtower study last week about how we should not read to much into bible account as types and antitypes, we had a whole study article on what the 10 wise virgins now means.

interesting though is the fact that only in 2007/8 they taught that the discreet virgins were the annointed ones who waited for christ's return in 1914 and the foolish ones were the ones who fell away in 1914 because the end didn't come.

now though, we have new light!

Paradise is going to suck!

once you really start thinking about it, the whole paradise idea is kind of depressing.

i remember growing up as kids my sister was the first to tell my parents (admittedly very courageously) that she wasn't sure she wanted to live in paradise, it sounded boring living forever.

i thought she was dumb for thinking that, i mean playing with lions!!!!

Actually the witness interpretation of 'paradise' sounds a lot like communism. No free speech and being told where to live and what to do, all for the greater good, no doubt. So glad it's not really going to happen!

'When the organization speaks, it's jehovah speaking to us' is absolute blasphemy.

This is calling God either a deceptive liar, or a confused bumbling idiot who blathers false prophesy and bizarre speculation. No, that's THEMSELVES. I am especially repulsed by this comment. Stepping away from the org for several years now, it is shocking to hear any organization say this, especially when it is one so mistaken, so many times, that changes so often, whose 'Truth' changes like the weather.

Injusticesystem I just realized what your avatar is! Wow I haven't thought about that picture in a while. What the hell were they thinking to put that picture in a CHILDREN'S BOOK. I remember at the meeting (cuz that was the only 'acceptable' picture book to bring), my little kids looking at the babies about to drown, staring at them. I would try to turn the page and distract them.

Yep, the WTBTS, proudly giving kids nightmares for over 100 years.

Yeah. Even if they are told 'you can't change your mind about this ever, ok?' They would think, 'that's ok! We go out to tacos after the Sunday meeting, I would never want to stop that!' Or 'why would I ever not want to live in the paradise?? Of course I won't change my mind!' Or 'I'm going to be best friends with Lauren FOREVER and we will always be together!!'
