Here's my favorite
'We must be on guard against independent thinking.'
i read a comment on another thread that made me think of this topic.. how many catchphrases are used by the gb and organisation in an attempt to control or gain power or prevent questioning?
feel free to list as many as you can think of!.
i'll start:.

i realize many people on here are very angry at the watchtower society and/or governing body for various reasons, many of which are likely justified, at least to some extent.
i also can totally understand the cynicism and pessimism i see from certain ones regarding the leaders of the society.. i think one thing that's often forgotten or overlooked, however, is the fact that members of the governing body who've been "in the truth" for 30, 40, 50, 60 years, probably truly believe in this organization.
in my opinion, it's more likely that they believe what they teach instead of being liars who are intentionally deceiving everyone.
i'm ignorant to the social welfare programs outside the us, but listening to others i have to assume in europe it is more generous.
i've not had deep personal conversation with active witnesses for nearly 20 years.
last year i made contact with a family and some elders came to my house.
if you are excommunicated, a.k.a.
disfellowshipped, from the organization, you are a victim of a pagan practice!.
the faithful and discreet slave has said so!.
oh man, i know i'm gonna catch flack for this.. everyone sees masonic conspiracies everywhere.. i am not a conspiracy theorist.
i don't honestly believe the governing body are freemasons.. yet, probably due to cruising this site and seeing all the masonic conspiracy threads, i saw this when looking for a shot of lett's pinky ring to show how he wore one in october, but then took it off in may to ask for money.. .
original is on the left, and on the right, i played with the brightness/contrast to get it to show up a little better.. what does the pattern on his ring look like to you?.
Conspiracy theorists are no more stupid than witnesses. Yeah, I think some are attracted to witnesses cuz it echoes their own suspicion of government and religion.
Sometimes ex jw's turn into conspiracy theorists just trying to make sense of all the witness crazy, there doesn't seem to be another reasonable explanation!

if you don't already know this; the latest revision of the insight book has no mention of the "overlapping generation" bs online library, insight book .
obviously that change will not bee seen by the vast majority of people, so when will this "brighter light" shine through in a wt or assembly talk?
predictions?.
Shoot finkelstein, don't ALL academic Bible scholars know 1914 is a false doctrine??
fusion T, excellent post!!! They could really pick and choose which one they like. Number 1 seems the most likely but any of those would do. Though I tend to think it would be the 'good guys' that won't pass away entirely, not the 'false religion' one.
i just wanted to introduce myself and say a big hello to all of my mentally diseased friends.. i say friends because i have been lurking for some time so it feels like home (us lurkers are a bit scared and cautious so it takes a while).
i won't bore you with too many details, but i am a born in, currently serving as the cobe of a congregation.
my wife and i have pioneered for the last 10 years and were shaken awake by that ridiculous 15th july 2013 wt about the generation and 1914.. my wife who is much smarter than me has questioned for years.
when you stood there in front of that dinosaur display did you connect the.
dots, or did you like me believe that they made a mistake in calculating their.
ages.
I think I started questioning witness beliefs on evolution ever since very young, and studying the creation book, and I remember it saying 'all the evidence 'supporting' human evolution could fit into a human casket, and that is exactly where it belongs"' or something very similar. I was like, really? There is enough evidence to fill a casket? That sounded like a lot of evidence to me! You could fit tons of stuff in a casket.
And then visiting museums. They have not only found dinosaur bones here and there and pieced them together, they have found whole, complete skeletons! And MAN were those canine teeth huge! Those teeth were NOT for chewing plants!! And those claws, what were they for? And the armour?? so yeah, I knew they fit somewhere into the scheme of time, and it was definitely a long, violent scene. Back then it was more of an either/or thing to me. I didn't believe that both could be true. But since letting go of fundamentalism I'm cool with science.
