Oogie, I figured since the convention has a Jesus theme he might be mentioned this time. Of course less than the governing body tho. And I forgot to add JW.Borg to the list. Duh!
Rebel8 I love the Pharisees and demon suggestions especially!!
so there's an indoctrination session tomorrow......any tips for getting through with my sanity intact?

Keep a tally sheet the way kids do:
jehovah
Governing body
jesus
brazen conduct
tight pants
etc.
i see an attitude among some people here which is not very helpful.
i can understand it, but still, it's not constructive or helpful.. if you condemn the society for not changing, but then you also condemn them when they do change in a positive way, what incentive or motive does that provide for the people at the society to ever want to change for the better?.
also, what does that attitude look like to current witnesses who are having doubts?.

Ok personally I think the types/ anti types change IS a good thing.
Of course they didn't apologize. No even indirectly. And of course this is what 'christendom' has been teaching for thousands! of years, and witnesses make a big deal of it, pat themselves on the back, Oh we are SO wise!!!
While they blamed people in the past for being like babes, not understanding the 'deeper things' they had made up, which was actually PURE BS.
So yes, the change is good, but it is really hypocritical.
i saw this and immediately thought about how this relates to us.
once you've learned how to ride the ttatt-bicycle it's almost impossible to ride the "truth"-bicycle again.

She is fabulous. I was wiping away tears, too.
It's still kind of surreal to hear someone expressing out loud thoughts that had been so internal for me for so long.
i am sort of new here, used a different username for a while but things got 'difficult' at home so i've since been lurking.... what i would be really interested to know, if you don't mind sharing, is what it was that triggered your doubts and initial research which led to awakening, was it a bad experience, injustice, changed doctrine?
for me, it was seeing mistreatment of young ones in the congregation, they're under so much pressure and as soon as they go even slightly astray they are shunned, either informally (as bad associations which pushes them further into the 'world') or formally - with elders dying to throw the book at them so they even lose their family.... ...then reading about child abuse issues in the press.... ...which led me to silentlambs.
...then jw facts, this forum and coc, wham!
Finkelstein I haven't found that to be true in my case. I joined a religion that lets you question and wrestle with God without people telling you what to believe. I can't really explain to you how great this is for me without being annoying here :). My problem with my church is on a personal level with a woman there who has a very strong personality. But dealing with it has helped me grow as a person.
My point in writing is, if you want to have faith, and that is a personal choice, there are plenty of places to go. I agree with the poster who said 'anywhere but there!'...well, I would avoid the more legalistic churches....but really, almost any church is 100 times better than sitting through a meeting and feeling absolutely nothing, where there is also nothing to engage your mind. Remember the hard part about leaving the witnesses, cuz you liked a lot of the people? Yeah I had that too. I've met so many wonderful new people tho. They embraced me fully, but without sabotaging my brain. It's awesome.
