Question - thoughts on explaining your fading to teachers?
by elderINewton inweird/odd question, but with our family fading, and our daughter in school how or should one approach teachers with this?
our child is a little too young to understand why we are fading, but it proves challenging in school as they have been, well brainwashed, to say i shouldn't do that etc... .
i don't like explaining anything to teachers about the fade, etc.

I remember having this conversation with a teacher during conferences. I explained that we are Jehovahs witnesses but working on leaving. Teachers usually have had witness students in their classes before, and are quite familiar with the rules and usually have felt sorry for these kids. Explain to the teacher that you are gently trying to erase the brainwashing, so if they get mixed messages as to what the kids will do and won't do, just let the kid do what they feel comfortable with right now, but this is why there may not be consistency. Also explain to the teacher that if word of this gets out, you would be in danger of losing your family, since you are not 'allowed' to leave the religion and start living normally. Tell them the witness world is a very small world, and to be careful about keeping this in confidence. Teachers are used to keeping secrets, they do it all the time, about their student's lives. It shouldn't be a problem. -

Overlapping generation pushed me to the brink
by Anator inhello, i haven't posted for a number of years.
i've been struggling for years of wrestling in my mind regarding the organization.
i guess the big thing for me to push me over the edge is the generation overlapping thingy.

Pete, yes I think it was you that made that point in an OP some months ago. It was one of my favorite posts. Complete hypocrisy that they demand everyone consider the origins of every holiday custom and tradition, while witnesses aren't even allowed to look honestly into their own origins and doctrines without being considered heretical apostates. -

Why dance around this? Because it's a false prophesy they are aching to make true.

where shall we go
by Sabin inyesterday i read something that hurt my heart.
at a talk given by a brother lyman swingle ( i apologize if i am stepping out of line by using this) he said "that if you leave the jw ( i find it difficult to refer to it as the truth now days) you may as well go jump off a bridge".
this i think is disgraceful talk to say to any body let alone an audience in which children are present.

Tired of the truth... Tired of doubting
by Deltawave ini'm reaching out here, i've known ttatt for about 3-4 years now.
sadly when i first grasped it i had a total mental breakdown as i was a hard core firm to the core pioneer and 110% believer of my faith.!
now nearly 2years on after my breakdown i still have to attend to please my jw wife.

Deltawave. If I was you, and happily married, I would put it on the table for your wife. She already knows you have serious doubts. Now tell her this pretending is making you crazy, that you need to just stop. It will be very hard for her. But tell her how MUCH you love her and that she's the one for you, and that you are positive you will be a much happier person when you stop pretending. And then divide your extra time and energy to pursue things you want to do, and to show your wife how much you love her. Plan little weekend trips and do fun stuff together. Give her foot rubs. Seriously. Cook her meals! When you make love, take time to caress her whole body. Treat her like a princess. Because it will be a huge challenge for her to go to meetings and in service alone. To keep your marriage together and for the happiness of you both, do these things, and don't let up. She's going to see the improvement too, and that you're happier and NOT mentally ill. -

I'm a coward.
by cappytan insince the move, it has been so enjoyable to not have jw's breathing down our necks asking why we didn't make the meeting, or having to pretend to be "spiritual" in front of family all the time.. 90% of my week is virtually stress free.
then, my mom calls or texts wanting to talk to her grandkids.
every dang call, she asks about the new congregation, if we went to the meeting, etc.. why can't i tell her to fk off?

Cappy please don't feel down on yourself. She's your mom. It's not easy or even natural to 'sever relationships' with her. She sounds awful. Take it one day at a time. Enjoy that 90% and answer the phone less often. -

S*** JW Parents Say
by Dissonant15 inmy mom especially had some go-to phrases that to this day echo in my head and piss me off.
things like, .
"don't get mad at me for enforcing the rules, because jehovah made them, so if you don't like it, you're disrespecting him.
