Tell her you have read about her religion and you know it is a destructive cult, and you care about her and you hope she will leave it some day. Tell her never to get baptized (that part is imperative). If she never gets baptized, she can leave it and be with you someday and still be able to speak to her family. -

Hello FW, just here to give you my perspective. I still believe in God, but my beliefs have come closer to the Trinity, but not fully the trinity. I do believe the bible is Gods word, however I am not a fundamentalist. I believe in evolution...I don't know how any thinking person can't. I believe God started creation and backed off for a long time. I don't believe it's all from nothing. After research I joined a mainline Protestant church that allows people to have many various thoughts/opinions. Some things are incontrovertible: jesus has died for us, God is merciful. I am really happy there. -

Feeling rejected
by Esmeralda001 injust a little disclaimer: english isn't my first language (i'm from france) thus the poor writing skills.here is the situation: i'm not a jw.
however, i'm in the process of becoming one.
in fact, i'm studying with the jw's, and i'll proceed to become an unbaptized publisher as soon as i finish the first book.to make a long story short i was introduced to the truth when i was 18een.

I completely understand you turning to God at a very low point in your life and finding him and feeling grateful and close to him...that is how I felt after being raised a JW....went through a low point, opened my heart to the true meaning of the Bible, and turned to Christ. Now after years of transition im in a mainline Christian church and I am so happy to be there and among true friends. You do NOT have to settle for the witnesses as the only answer. They have manipulated the bible towards what they want you to believe. Please keep an open mind about this. There are other ways that will not make you miserable. Why join a legalistic religion that is so built on superficial things? Research their doctrine! You will be happier, I promise, and you do not have to betray the God you have come to love. -

FB experience
by WasOnceBlind inso on last saturday, one of my good child hood friends (i consider her like a real sister) who is da posted on facebook that she was going to be having a birthday party for her son.
well another person we grew up with immediately posted a comment about how she should know better then to celebrate bdays and referenced 2 peter 2:20-22 (about being like a dog turning to its own vomit).
i countered with with luke 11:37-49 and didn't hear back.

Nicely handled, wob. Yep, a lot of outside people are going to see the crazed witnesses comment and be given a very productive reverse witness! -

So my best friend was reinstated last night
by LexIsFree inso my best friend, who also happens to be my brother-in-law, was reinstated last night.
i had an idea he was trying to make his way back to the cult since i had been texting and calling him for about 2, 3 months now and no response.
i wasn't shocked when he text me this morning to tell me the news.

I'm sorry, lex. The cult has a very strong hold on some people. They can't think for themselves no matter how smart they are sometimes. -

Sex and Marriage
by nicolaou inmost religions indoctrinate a standard sexual 'morality' into their followers.
sex before marriage is wrong, gay sex is wrong, same sex marriage is wrong, masturbation is wrong.. let's not turn this into another religion bashing thread (too easy), i was wondering how much of that pre-packaged thinking you still hold to?.
i still value marriage, more than ever.

Have my views changed? Absolutely. I do feel it's better if you at least think you love someone before having sex with them. But I've come to believe that the sex rules in the Bible were put there primarily to protect the family unit (avoidance of children born outside of a family unit) and the growth of the nation of Israel (masturbation law...if that's really even in the Bible. Something about wasting seed....) Now with (finally) reliable birth control methods, the whole no premarital sex thing is way overdone. Actually in the Bible it's not even as strict as in fundamentalist Christian cultures. I think a lot of that stems from the Victorian era...tho I haven't researched the subject in depth.
Honestly tho even when I was a witness I was never particularly uptight on the subject, and viewed sexuality as normal, not dirty, and perfectly natural once you are past puberty. I Think I've always looked at things from a biological lens. Still tried to follow the cultural rules to avoid guilt etc.
Regarding adultery, I do have empathy for the subjects. Life is complicated and often messy. I can't imagine being capable of having sex with someone else while married, but I can empathize with human weakness and maybe the loneliness it takes to get to that point.
Regarding gay sex...I used to think male gay sex was gross, female not so much (we are speaking honestly here...I'm not trying to be politically correct.) Now I think if that's what people desire then that's what's natural for them. Why should I think about other people's sex lives and what they do in private. As someone I knew once said 'i wouldnt come poop in your kitchen, you don't come poop in mine'....although thats more vulgar than I usually like to speak, I think about that saying often. Why don't we just leave each other's personal lives the heck alone.

I think I was off the day they taught ...
by Simon indoes anyone else have those things that everyone else seems to know ... except you?
it's like you were off the day it was taught in school and you don't know that you don't know about it.
but everyone else does.. i have a couple .... first, days of the month.

Saint B I've been using the knuckle month method for years now. It also works if you start at your index finger knuckle.
Simon, I seem to have a mental block on sending people attachments. My husband shows me and it's SO easy but then I forget all over again.

Timeheals, that does happen in the beginning! As your username suggests, it takes time to let yourself be Ok with holidays. We were taught since infancy that they are bad! BAD! and this stuff is really ingrained. The first thing I did was touch a potted little evergreen tree at a nursery and think about how nice it was and that it would be kind of fun to decorate. Baby steps! -

How Many JWs Really Believe Everything They Are Told?
by minimus ini think that 80% of jws do not truly believe in what they are taught .
the vast majority stay in because of family, friends, ignorance and a lack of caring about any of the facts regarding the "truth".
many people are lazy.

I think about 20% are true believers, not doubting anything. My mother is one of these, swallowing everything they say hook line and sinker. The rest doubt occasionally but think it's the closest thing to worshipping Jehovah, and where else would they go, and it's the best way to live that can be found on earth. This is only because they haven't honesltly let themselves think otherwise. Letting themselves think otherwise is crossing a line most don't let themselves cross. Those are sinful, disloyal thoughts. -

I'm thankful we have good food. I'm thankful me and my immediate family are out of the cult and free. I'm thankful for Christmas. I'm thankful for real people. I'm thankful all my kids are happy.
