Outsider looking in, excellent points!! This is what i try to say many times here to people who still believe in God but feel lost...but you said it so much more eloquently. The steps you listed were exactly what helped in my search.. Except instead of walking in to churches I shopped around online and chose carefully. Walked in to the one I chose and have been happy there for several years now. What I tried to express in a PM to former brother was that different denominations might appeal to what personally is our passion...mine is helping others, and I lean liberal, so I found a good fit for me. But a church that is conservative might be good for someone else. They are not different paths leading to God...they are the same path, and Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and we all share this in common with small variations which aren't so important. Vanderhoven makes an important point: if they claim they are the only true church, dont walk, but RUN outta there!!! -

The pyramids and rutherford.......
by atomant inlve been researching the early days of the jw"s and found some very damning information which needs to be discussed at length.according to my research it is claimed that early founders used the pyramids to work out important biblical dates that are now dates set in stone according to the beliefs of the sect and can not be changed as it would rock the very foundation upon which their beliefs are built.l was hoping for somone with a precise understanding to please elaborate whether this is true or not.

And remember, Rutherford was no more logical, believing the great prophets would be resurrected and need somewhere to live, and purchasing a mansion in southern California, occupying it for them until their arrival! Maybe not logical, but how convenient for him. -

Stepping out of the shadows
by contramundum ini have been lurking on the site for a few months and thought it about time i plucked up the courage to step out of the shadows and say hello.. i am in the process of fading after realizing all is not right with the organization i had trusted implicitly for over 40 years.
there have always been 'truths' i have struggled to accept entirely, even as a child, but was confident that trusting in jehovah, building my faith and remaining patient would be enough to settle any nagging doubts that remained, so i pushed any inconsistencies to the back of my mind and concentrated on being the best witness that i could be.. over the last few years, however, i have been preoccupied with a number of crises in my family and stepping back slightly from 'theocratic' activity has allowed me to re evaluate a number of concerns and research sources other than the sanitized wt publications.. my eyes are now wide open - i found things which have appalled me and left me feeling extremely let down and disappointed by people i had really trusted.. i tried gently raising a few subjects with my mum (who was baptized early '70s and still remains a staunch wt supporter) but she will hear no criticism of the organization.
i understand this because the best part of her life has been invested in the religion and to acknowledge it may have got things wrong would be to recognize the last 40 years have been a vain waste.

Welcome honey. Lately it seems like only those really determined to stay ignorant are staying in!! Seeing so many first time posters. Fade very slowly, dropping one more meeting each month. They will come to expect it of you and maybe not give it a second thought if you do it right. -

I once felt like you and so desperate. Wanted to get my kids out and my husband wanted to stay in. I felt like leaving him. I was so angry with everything I actually imagined taking the society to the supreme Court too!! Well, with a lot of patience and turmoil and uncertainty, I managed to get everyone out with me but sorely miss my birth family. Lost all witness friends but have my kids. Not a bad trade off at all!! My husband wasn't an elder and not a 100%true believer so that part was easier than your situation. I hope it works out for you! At least you have your sister and daughter!!! -

If you agree with everything they say when they meet with you, it will take a lot of strength and inventiveness to come up with reasons why you aren't doing meetings and service anymore. I agree meeting with them won't necessarily cause you damage but it could cause you awkwardness. Maybe the 'I don't want to waste their time' would be better, but if that is causing your husband more anger/anxiety than it's worth, be prepared to have some reasons for not being an active witness that have nothing to do with doctrine/apostate info. Maybe expressing an interest in science and atheist thoughts might be OK tho I'm not totally sure of that. Fragile ice to be treading on!Welcome and I'm sorry about your situation :(. -

New way to fade?
by dothemath ina brother in a local congregation has successfully faded, no announcements or judicial hearings that anyone has heard of.. his immediate family are all out, but they have lots of family still in.. if he had joined another religion, or the army, or put up christmas lights, likely the elders would be hounding them like crazy.. but no, he has accepted evolution(it seems to be common knowledge).. i would have thought this would be a disfellowshipping offense, but lots of time has passed, and they just leave them all alone..

Ironically, atheist thoughts are not a big worry to elders as long as you dont 'proselytize' them...they wont even badger you much about meeting attendamce. If you start believing in different doctrine tho, from reading the Bible with eyes open, then you are in trouble, better take extra care to fade quietly and better move if you want to join another church.
Disbelief in God--sad shame but whatever.Belief in God, but not their interpretation: Get this wicked person out!!! -

Some thoughts on the new midweek meeting
by Saltheart Foamfollower inthe new midweek meeting has been running for a month now.
here are my thoughts on how it is going so far:.
1) elders are looking frazzled from being on virtually every meeting and having to prepare unfamiliar formats for items.

The society wants to pretend everything is perfect and the way to solve all their problems is simply to script everything so no one ever says anything embarrassing or that doesn't exactly replicate what they would say. But guess what, they are boring and predictable and brain dead. All this driving away individuality has ripped the soul out of their organization. I remember when there was something like some personality. It's been a long process, really, but they have succeeded. The TMS used to be my favorite of the meetings, because you might hear someone put their own thoughts to something and it would be refreshing. Now there would be nothing to look forward to but disfellowshipping announcements.
