I was never going to leave. I was going to stick it out no matter what, despite my doubts, cuz I never wanted to disappoint my parents. But finally I decided I had to get out and live according to my own beliefs, and let my kids follow their own paths instead of sticking around this cult until their lives were limited by it. It was time to finally grow up.
I'm SO glad I did it, even tho the process was hard. I never could have imagined myself here 10 years ago.

Be careful what you wish for (in case you want to wake up your spouse)
by nevaagain ini want to spare you a long post about my background.
because this topic is about something else.a small information is that i knew ttatt before i got married.
but then i somehow pushed it back for quite some time because i didnt want to change my life and it was convenient to instantly meet new people when you move into a new city.couple of years into my marriage and seeing all the changes in the jw my thirst for ttatt resurfaced.

Waking up is rocky. She's going through the same tumultuous mess most of us went through. I wish she hadn't started smoking, cuz that's hard to fix. But she is questioning everything right now. Including her relationship with you. You said your relationship is getting better so that's good. Thanks for letting us see this other perspective of what can happen if people drift apart. I hope you have some good discussions and are very open with each other. But mostly, give her time, she's in shock and it takes a year or two to recover. After some time you may need to reassess your life and see if you love each other on a deep enough level to stay together. -

Try Being Kind...It Actually Feels Good!
by EyesOpenHeartBroken inlet me start by saying that this forum has been helpful to me in many ways.
i haven't gotten involved in much commenting and i am not very assertive by nature so i've steered away from participating in debates.
but i have read threads often and had a sense of community.

Pete you are one of the kindest posters here! (Except... I don't read the believers vs. atheists posts anymore, so it's possible I missed a nasty comment or two ;) )
EOHB you know I sent you a p.m. but I just also wanted to state here publicly that I strongly agree with you and think you are a wonderful person for posting it.

I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

That's a good point OTWO, focus on the interpretation of the generation teaching oh so conveniently changing so that they could keep their prophecy alive, just in time, every time they changed it. Anyone could observe this, you didn't have to be an apostate to see what they were doing. -

The memorial may have been requested by that guy who studied with him. They might treat it like someone who doesn't have family. I bet they will throw in extra time for personal stuff because he was famous, the double standard will continue. They will still look like idiots tho, no doubt.
Regarding the paternity claims, some of them have to be true, the guy certainly got around.

BW you were so very brave.
It will be tough to stick to only 'non apostate' knowledge in sharing your 'doubts' to your father. How can you talk about the earlier dates before 1914, if witnesses cover over them and only apostates know that stuff these days? This is tricky. Sending you a PM.

What I liked, and the only things I liked, about being a witness don't exist anymore.
1. The pink songbook
2. The danishes at the DC.
3. The half frozen pudding! I actually loved that and have tried to replicate that same effect at home :).
4. The witness friends I grew up with. Yes, they left too. Which is awesome cuz now we are still friends.
