received revealing "witness" in parking lot
by Magnum ina few weeks ago i was working out of my home state and was in a grocery store parking lot when i received my first jw witness since leaving jwdom.
a youngish-looking lady was sitting in an suv parked next to my car and i was about to get in my car to leave.
she opened the door and asked whether she could give me something to read (had a tract in her hand)..

Salvation
by Harold Mourning innow that the jw belief system excludes non-anointed from the new covenant.
there seems to be a giant hole in the issue of salvation for the majority of members.
can anyone explain this?

This practice of theirs of having double standards for salvation is absolutely disgusting. After reading the greek scriptures with an open mind I could not see how everyone who benefits from the sacrifice of Jesus would not partake. At my last memorial, I passed the emblems like everyone else and felt like a total piece of crap afterwards. I promised I would never reject the sacrifice of Jesus again, and have never gone to another memorial, but partake monthly at my new church. I will never, ever take it for granted. -

I think they were in better shape when they tried to dig deeper into the bible. Probably the strongest witnesses were shaped by the Truth book and its predecessors, and it has degenerated from there. Of course it's always been whacked, but at least it was deep.
I don't think they are creating people now with a solid faith...only superficial, and it's going to be easily shaken, and it's only held together by a sense of obligation and guilt. We'll have to see what happens, but I don't think this has been a smart move for them.

A quick summary of topics and issues wrong with jws
by stuckinarut2 inyou know how our minds often get all "fuzzy" and confused when we are put on the spot and asked to come up with points?
we often tend to lose focus and go off on tangents?.
im trying to compile a basic list of bullet points for the most obvious and clear problems / doctrines / history of witnesses that can blow the org out of the water.. it is more for the purpose of getting my own thoughts clear rather than using it to talk to witnesses (as that doesn't really work).

Focus on acts for salvation vs. salvation by Jesus.
and while I'm at it, Jehovah Jehovah jehovah and very little Jesus doesn't correspond with the bible. It shows their cult mentality to read scriptures about Jesus and say 'see, this brings out Jehovah...'

Is the WTS guilty of modern-day idolatry?
by parakeet inromans 1:25: they exchanged the truth of god for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the creatorwho is forever praised.
amen.
do you all agree that the purpose of sacred texts is to bring believers closer to god?

Good points, star Moore. I agree completely. Interesting how the people were tired of waiting and worshipped the calf....so true the Society has become like that image over the decades since 1914. -

I just went to a "wordly" funeral/memorial service.
by William Penwell inas my topic stated, i just came back from a co-worker memorial service that was not a witness.
the minister did get into the religious stuff a bit but that was expected.
i just respectfully listened.

Shirley, I'm a Christian and I totally agree with you. There is no reason for any preacher to say that. For some reason people find that comment comforting, I find it infuriating and fortunately have never heard it in my church. -

Need help compiling a list of the latest changes in doctrine and practices
by jwfacts ini have former jws looking at jwfacts.com in order to update themselves with what is happening with the religion, so that they can better understand their jw family.
it thought it would help if there was a page devoted to what has changed since 2000. .
2012 oct release of jw.org - jws encouraged to download their own publications and use ipads at meetings and field service.

Counting service time in a creative way
by nevaagain incouting time and, how to count time while doing as little service as possible is often a hot topic around witnesses.
i even overheard pioneers discussing about it.
they call it "creative time counting" (i translated that phrase from a different language so bear with me ;-).

The publishers are just trying to appease the elders who are just trying to appease the c.o...who is just trying to appease the d.o. Who is just trying to appease the branch overseer who is just trying to appease the GB. And the gb is probably trying to appease eachother, because each of them have different duties, don't they? It's just a big business. -

Hi Garrett! This is going to be the beginning of your new life, I'm excited for you. I agree with everyone else....fade. I faded successfully and my family came along, it's been a huge blessing. The journey was super scary and depressing. I don't know how I made it! But you are 21, which is so great. This experience will one day be just a small part of your life. First of all, try to make some new non witness friends. It can be awkward at first, and you may want to talk about this HUgE thing you are going through the whole time, and you will seem a little weird to them! These days worldly people are trying to be accepting of different people, and they'll be all, oh, you were a witness, that's nice, NO it isn't nice, it was awful!! They won't get it. But try to make friends with people who enjoy doing the same things you do.
Personally I found another Christian faith and it's been wonderful and a new community for me, so keep that option open for you unless you are feeling atheist, like many people here. Don't have the 'but what else is there, where would I go?' Attitude...that's what they want you to believe. If you go this direction, choose one that works with your own beliefs and liberalism or conservatism...there's lots of options. From the way you talk, I think you're more liberal. United church of Christ, Congregationalists, Presbyterians, then Methodists or Lutherans are a good place for you I think. But first of all do research, lots and lots of research, not only on the org history, but on Bible beliefs. Before I did this research, I didn't think I would ever be in another religion, but the research brought me to it.
There are many here who debunk the bible and God, and that's where they arrived on their own journeys. Everyone is different tho, and you need to follow your own instincts...it might be that direction, it might be another. I just know that having faith has helped me a lot and I would recommend studying if you can.
See a doctor about the depression, it sounds severe. But also know that probably most of us went through depression when we learned ttatt. It's a form of grieving and huge uncertainty and just, mess. So it's really hopeful down the line for you that this won't be a permanent affliction.
much love!

My mother used to pay some bills in the mornings and put tracts in them. She would start her time before the meeting for fs this way. She probably still does this, I don't know.
I don't judge people who try these tactics. It's a miserable thing trying to get your hours. Being away from it makes you realize how foolish it all was. And you eventually realize how little control of your life they really have! It's only what you let them to have.
