  Is there anything about the JW's you still like?

  some jw's on various postingshave asked me was there anything about the jw's i still agree with.

  of course there are some things i agree with and some i partially do.

  1. political involvement - while i do not agree with totally avoiding anything associated with politics, i agree that many of todays churches are way too involved in trying to sway their constituents beliefs.

  The fact that I grew up turning to scriptures all over the bible is really useful now. Of course they tied scriptures together to prove something completely out of context...but having this skill helps in navigating around a bible. For that I am thankful.

  And, I am thankful for the people I knew over the years. The charming elderly sisters, the humorous elders. The two girls I grew up with who also left. We get together now for our birthdays. There was a 'we're all in this together' aspect that drew people close together. Maybe that's what happens when you aren't allowed to associate with anyone else. But it's also kind of special. It's kind of family, with all the nastiness and jealousy that can often bring too.

  Had a major blow out

  my mom was emailing a group thread of rhetoric about isis and armageddon, and i finally got sick of it and said some pretty intense harsh things about ideals, and wishing for armageddon.

  then it went back and forth like some debate, all the while i am holding back unloading serious ttatt on my family.

  i put a whole bunch of scriptures where the wonderful yahweh committed infanticide.

  I am so sorry. What a bad night. if you want to fade, you've got to back away from this arguing with your mom, just say you were having a bad night. Explosive bursts of saying what you really feel are not worth losing your family forever. ......I hate that damn religion :( nobody should have to lose their families over saying what they believe.

  1st POST: A romance with a JW

  i am not a jw ...however i began having bible studies (i d call them watchtower studies).

  i was beginning to get lured in and brainwashed into accepting the religion as the true religion...but something inside of me told me there was something odd.

  some time passes and i was invited to a meeting and i accepted.

  But sowhatnow, I dont think either of them will have the patience/self control not to make a mess of things before he learns ttatt. I Agree with the poster above, angel should tell him what she knows/has observed about the religion, and tell him to contact her if he decides to leave it someday. I think these two may have some good natural Chemistry, it's a shame the freaking religion gets in the way....but angel, seriously, you do not want an uber witness like this guy 'you fornicator! You kissed me!!' to be your husband. He seriously needs to get away completely from the religion before you pursue a relationship with him.

  growing up, i never ever even saw these guys faces, or even knew their names.

  all of a sudden they're on my computer screen, tv, and on every other magazine coming out of the watchtower machine.

  why all the glamour now?

  Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?

  in my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.

  our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.

  the second hall i was in was moderate.

  the bible does say that the "day of jehovah" (armageddon) would be associated with the sun becoming dark followed by the moon turning to blood.

  but the moon turning to blood is specific to a total lunar eclipse.

  Charlie, I think you're a bit crazy. I think you've had a hard life. If you had been allowed to live the way you were born to live, you wouldn't have been like this, but much more at peace. Bad luck that you were in this extremist religion. You've become obsessed with it. The complexities of it, which are absurd, have you all strung out. Jesus loves you the way you are. Don't dwell on scewed witness interpretation of bible prophesy. You have a nice face and are a pretty girl.

  My best friend - Helping him wake up?

  so, first off, after my learning ttatt i've been feeling so much better!

  my depression is gone, i'm so much more motivated, i can do everything i've always wanted to do but was forbidden from doing.

  now, my best friend is still in, however, i feel that he may have a chance at waking up.

  I completely agree...don't make it a huge deal about the religion, just say you are sorry, you were going through a hard time and you miss him. Keep it lighthearted, but subtly suggest you are much happier without the meetings etc.

  by the way, I remember the state you were in when you wrote before, and I'm really glad you're doing better.

  The beginning of the end for shunning?

  the borg seem to prepare for changes by missing explanations out for a while then presenting a "new understanding" which doesn't contradict the most recent discussion.check out the most recent references to gog - no identification as satan.. in today's wt study, paragraph 15 concerning benefitting from the prodigal son stated "if we meet a person who has strayed from the congregation, will we offer loving and practical help to assist him to return?

  " there is no footnote or other qualifier saying not to go to disfellowshipped ones (who are definitely the ones being talked about) which is still the official policy.

  i know this isn't an ending to shunning, but it may signal the start of the preparation for a change.

  They often say friends and relatives 'choose' not to associate with df'd ones. So even if they are forced by law to forego this 'arrangement', they can still say it is the decision the members make not to associate with their families...and they will quietly make sure that happens.

  Why Armageddon Now?

  i've been thinking and here's what i've come up with.

  correct me if i'm wrong, but in the bible does it not state that the word would have to be preached throughout the entire inhabited earth for a witness to all people and then the end would come?.

  with the world being as vast as it is today, it would be practically impossible for the witnesses to speak to everyone in the world.
