How to get my kids out

i've been disfellowshipped for about 5 years and extremely happy to be out.

my ex wife is still a regular meeting attender and takes our two young kids with her (8 and 6 years old).

i recently saw some of the caleb and sophia videos on the jw.org website and was completely appalled, i remember what i was taught as a kid growing up in the organization but this seems so much worse and now that i'm out i can plainly see the mind control.

I would say, for now, just be a positive, fun, balanced influence on your kids. You must feel such a loss of control over this religion messing with their minds. Let them know they can make their own choice later. Keep it simple of course, but let them know this basic thing. Also, I try to teach my kids about advertising, and how companies are trying to get them to spend their money and how manipulative they are being. Without discussing specifically the religion, teach them these techniques. 'See in this picture how they are trying to make these people look SO happy, so you want to buy what they are selling? Is that realistic?'

I hope that helps. Also this : Of course set limits, but be the fun parent. When they're with you, do the fun stuff. And Make sure they have friends that aren't witnesses. That's huge.

if you were to ask when i first woke up i would say 2010 with the overlapping generation garbage.

I keep hoping one of you is my brother in law, who i know is ttatt aware but not out of it...and my sister is very in, but a few years ago he said she only believed half of it. I haven't talked to him for a long time but heard he's going to meetings again.

I was hopeful, comet, for a while, but then you said something indicating you aren't him, darn!

Anyone else hoping to find people you know on here...maybe even hoping you get some family back and this would be the first clue? Just desperate dreams, I guess :(.

I'm sorry, I don't know if I started out wrong....but do we have to introduce ourselves before we can comment here? Cuz I never did!! I don't want to give personal details and I feel like I have to if I introduce myself. Anyway, Sofia, good for you for having your own mind!

I was of the same mind as you for a long time, thought I could just go through the motions and be ok pretending. Then I started reading the New Testament and basically fell in love with Christ and couldn't worship falsely anymore. Had to get out. It was long and trying and I miss my family but freedom to worship and be who I really am was and is worth it.

What did you become after leaving Jehovah's Witnesses?

hey guys,.

so, since my leaving i have been doing so much research on so many topics that it's been extremely enlightening.

not only have i learned a lot about the organization and what motivates it, but i have also learned a lot about the bible, god and most importantly, myself.. currently, i'm not quite sure where i stand, but i'm having some real issues with the bible and god.

A liberal, non fundamentalist Christian active in a church and happy to have my own ideas and opinions and freely speak them amongst others who have their own ideas too...and somehow we all get along and love eachother.

The WTBTS and Elders have too many stupid rules!

i hated ministry book bags.i hated coming out of my home with the book bags looking like i was going to a seminar.so,i starting going to the ministry school and sunday bible meetings holding only the required books for that day in my hand.. for the sunday meetings,i would just carry the song book,bible and watchtower magazine in my hand.

no book bag!

for the ministry school,i would just carry just what necessary for the evening.

I remember being a teenager during the meeting, and whispering to my mother that I thought the 'generation' was just referring to a general group of people...not those specifically born before 1914. She shook her head, but 10 years later the GB came out saying the same thing (before the 'overlapping' fiasco they are currently teaching).

I remember This poor older sister said 'but that means this system could go on and on! I wanted to see it end in my lifetime!!'

Yes, tell him to say yes he thinks they are God's directed organization. I was asked this question when I was still a half believer, so I didn't have to lie at the time...but I remember being asked and it was a huge question, the mood lightened significantly afterwards.

Advice needed on Crisis of Conscience

so, some of you may have seen my thread from yesterday about my wife waking up.. we had further discussion yesterday evening after i sent her the pbs video on the abuse scandals plaguing the watchtower.

she was so furious and pissed off at wt hq.

apparently a close relative of her's was abused by an elder and the only reason he was reproved and removed as an elder was because he confessed.

Order the book on Amazon. Then tell her how surprised you were by Ray franz' tone. I think she got the impression he was a hateful guy from what you said about the book. Tell her he was one of the most loving peaceable men ever alive and a true role model for anyone. Also, listen...I know you said your world came crashing down by reading the book. For me it didn't at all. It just confirmed some intuitions that I had always had about the religion. And like Ray franz, I still have a strong faith in God. If it's all or nothing for you, then yes I think it can be a devastating read. You don't know which way your wife will go. She might still believe in God...and if so, reading the book is not devastating, it's affirming. Have the book around for when she's ready, just tell her it's there.
