The elders came to talk about my facebook comment
by cookiemaster inso, not long ago i've told you guys how one of my only two jw friends saw my comment against the borg and called me about it.
well, the little fraker also called the elders to tell on me.
i know i've been a huge idiot for posting a comment about jw's on facebook, but nonetheless i did it and what's happened, happened.. two idiot elders came all the way from the nearest congo, 30 miles away to talk to me about it.

The Divine Name in the NT: Some Reflections
by Let go of fear ini've been fascinated with this topic for some time now, almost to the point of obsession.
after researching the issue for several years, i have come to a conclusion/theory that i would love to receive some feedback on.
this theory of mine is one that will be somewhat unsettling to both those who believe the divine name was used in the original nt scripts as well as those who believe it wasn't.

I think you are very close, maybe even completely correct. -

Went to a Catholic Funeral Today
by Captain Schmideo2 init was for a dear friend of the family that i have known all my life.now, bear in mind that i was born and raised jw, so my experience with catholic ceremonies can be counted on three fingers, a wedding, a "regular" mass, and this funeral mass.once they got down to the actual speaking about the deceased, i felt emotionally involved, but prior to that, i was watching and had questions about aspects of the services (these i have seen in common for all three times i have been in an rc church):why the "sing-song" voice during the prayers?
does god hear it better if you sound all spooky tenor?i observe that every time a reading from one of the gospels takes place, it is preceded by a big musical number:"alleluiah!
alleluiah"( "and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's jesus!".

Ecan 6, I've never been to a 'beautiful' witness funeral, they are all as superficial. I am really surprised you have.
but I'm especially surprised they didn't escort out that daughter who got up to speak AT THE PODIUM!!!! MY GOD, ISNT THAT SACRILIGIOUS???! Lol....I'm cant believe any woman got away with that !!! Even us little girls after the meeting, when we were playing a bit on the stage, when we walked up to the podium to see what it was like, we were always told to get away.

"Normal family affections and dealings" continue - If only?!?
by LHS123 ini am new to this forum - it is only a couple of weeks since i have allowed myself to acknowledge and research my doubts.
i am trying to be fair by reading both sides of the story and considering jw official explanation of confusing matters.
one of the issues i have been looking at is shunning - and i was shocked to see the misleading information about shunning on the jw.org website: .

What the website doesn't say, is that when the children move out of the home because they have gotten older, they can't talk to their dad anymore if they are baptized witnesses. -

Earthquake!.. and JW superstition.
by apocalypse inwhile in service on saturday, i was sitting with an elder that i have known for years having a coffee break.
we were discussing the up-coming convention and what we had to do etc.
then, (there was a tv up on the wall in the coffee place where we were) on the screen burst the news of the nepal earthquake.

He was genuinely excited by seeing all the bad news, people losing their homes left and right, people committing suicide because of financial collapse...Armageddon is coming!!
I used it as a sort of teaching moment/reality check for my husband after we got home, at the time I was awake and fading, he was mentally still in, but never blind to reality. Stuff like this helped.

GMO fears are usually from the left wing tho. I'm not sure most of them are harmful, the ones supposed to be chemical resistant I am wary of. I think it's a matter of labeling for me. We should have the right to know what is in the food we buy. Whether it is actually harmful is another issue, but GMO foods should be labeled so we can make a choice whether we want to buy them or not. -

I agree Ecan6. I love most all the witnesses I have ever known and still respect many of them. But I also think oubliette is right, they are stunted spiritually, intellectually, socially and emotionally. I know I was. It was in leaving them that I grew up and became a better person. -

Endure! Life is hard! Lost? We are Miserable ? Don't think so
by ducatijoe inits a rainy day and have been reading posts.. i would like to respond to the comments of those still in, post to those who have decided to leave.. what ever you have been told or may think about what will happen without "the truth" , is not true.
my life without the wbts is fantastic.
no stress, live in a beautiful place, great new friends and total peace of mind.

I have to say that from what I've seen, it's the people who have left that are more successful, stable, and happy. It probably depends on personalities. But it seems the ones who have stayed are a mess, constantly fighting against their natural selves and the direction they should have taken in life, which makes a person miserable. -

Many christian faiths have an EARTHLY resurrection belief.....
by EndofMysteries ini was surprised to learn many other mainstream christian religions believe in a physical earthly resurrection.
even catholics.
it seems the belief is that as of now one goes to heaven to wait, then in the future will have an earthly resurrection.
-
FayeDunaway
Many Protestant denominations believe in an eventual 'new earth', and that when you die your soul goes to heaven, but eventually there will be a physical resurrection and earth would be restored and Jesus would actually reside with his people on this earth. They don't talk and speculate about it much, it is a hope for an uncertain time in the future. -

"i tell you truthfully, there were raspberries in an abundance that fell from the sky, bringing great happiness to all those on earth".
from the book of stuckinarut2 4:7. but how can you believe this authoritative verse?.
