Can I pick up a New World Translation from the JW London head office?
by Camperdown9 ini'm an anglican and not a jehovahs witness.
what i dislike about lots of church congregations is their readiness to make unpleasant and unhelpful comments about other christian groups.
recently someone in a church tried to tell me a little about the views of jehovahs witnesses.

Camperdown, if I was you I would go to your Anglican church next Sunday and fall on your knees, kiss the ground, thankful that you have freedom of your own thoughts and can even publicly differ from your peers on details of doctrine, if you so desire, without being shut off from everyone you were ever allowed to be close to.
You may have heard little judgmental comments about JW's by members of your church...but witnesses firmly believe, and say every week, that all other churches and the people in them will be destroyed by God for being evil. I wouldn't feel too sorry for the poor witnesses if I were you, but I do commend your openness of mind. Individually many of them are wonderful people...but they still believe God is going to destroy everyone soon, who doesnt join their religion.

Who can you trust to admit you have doubts?
by MrMonroe in(that is, doubts).
in margaret atwood's "the handmaid's tale", a futuristic story of life inside a repressive, abusive big brother-style society tightly controlled by religious fundamentalists, there's a passage in which the protagonist is alone with another woman at a state-controlled centre where prayers are generated -- then printed out and read out -- by a machine.
the other woman asks, in barely more than a whisper, "do you think god listens to these machines?

Thanks cha! Coincidentally, I just saw that Faye Dunaway starred in the 1990 movie Handmaid's Tale. I never saw the movie, it was rated R. (Ha.) -

A friend of mine, who is very concerned about Cruz running for the presidency and the theocracy he would wish to start, sent me this interview of Margaret Atwood. I was watching it and holy schlamozzle!! Had to come here and see if there had been any discussion of this book The Handmaid's Tale. As the OP said, it's impossible not to think of the JW's when hearing from Margaret Atwood. What a brilliant lady. I know what I'm reading next!

Man begets man, God begets God. Jesus is the only begotten son of God, and he is called God different times in the Bible, not just John 1:1.
I think son of God MEANS that he is God.
If you have a movie, say King Kong. And then a sequel, son of King Kong, the subject is going to be very similar, isn't it? Is there still only one King Kong, or are they both King Kongs, similar in power and image but different versions? One is not in essence less Kong than the other. (Please forgive the silly illustration! Um, cofty thinks God is a monster, so cofty, that was a gift to you! ;))
The Trinity doctrine is meant to reconcile how there can only be one God, yet there are all these scriptures that say the son of God is: the image of God, God, the alpha and Omega, the I am, the only begotten God, mighty God, all things created by him, etc.

Did any of us ever enjoy meetings?
by stephanie61092 inthis is a legitimate question.
did any of us ever find real joy in being at the meetings?
did any of us ever finish a meeting and think "i feel so enriched"?

Lost G I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!
Gefangene, I know what you are talking about too! I remember in elementary school when it was 'calendar time' I used to get depressed whenever i realized that day was a meeting day. :(
It was like, after a night with no meeting I would start to feel good and then the next day would feel good, until the realization it was a meeting day and then a dark cloud would fall on the whole day. And Friday was good...but guess what the weekend starts out with? The dreaded Saturday morning. And then Sunday is taken up too (with dreadfully long talk by droning speaker followed by dreadfully long watchtower study). I swear, I never felt the whole TGIF thing until I wasn't a witness anymore.

The point of this forum for exJWs is that it is such a cult that even if you manage to leave the religion with your family still talking to you, you need to talk to like minded peers about getting all of the fear, obligation and guilt out of your head so you can move on with your life. Most are however NOT able to leave with their families intact, and need to come here to talk about it.
Does this religion still sound appealing to you?
I left, and now, after much study, agree mostly with the Trinity. There are more scriptures to support it than those that call it into question, in my opinion. I don't want to argue about the Trinity, but study the subject deeper, and certainly do not use only witness materials. There are many resources online.

I am losing
by NoMoreHustle ini haven't posted anything for a bit, but wanted to express how i am losing this battle.
it has been over 3 years now since i woke up about watchtower.
the battle that i am talking about is the tug of war with my wife (i adore her immensely), watchtower is winning, she simply will not give in to my so-called negative thoughts about the religion that we are in.

This is complicated a hundred fold if you have young children. Do you?
If not, you CAN still have a happy marriage if you leave the cult and she stays in. It won't be an easy journey but others have made it with marriage intact. But you owe it to yourself to take those first steps. If you do, ensure her of your love and devotion no matter what, you are just tired of living a lie and pretending to be something you are not. Nobody deserves to go through life trying to be a robot.
