When I was a witness I was sometimes uncomfortable in admitting it to people l didn't know. Usual objections from them = blood, xmas. birthdays etc. But now I am out, I enjoy and make the most of the situation, usually by telling them that although I had been in the witnesses for over thirty years, I could not go along with hypocrisy = and then start to explain to them the UN involvement in terms that they can understand. Remembering that most people are not aware of the way that the witnesses view the UN.

I also wanted to thank him so much for exposing the WT re UN scandal, I didn't realise it was Zev who did it. It was the UN thing that really set the ball rolling for me and hubby. Now we are free of the mind control cult

Can anyone tell me about the UN

i'm so sorry that i'm sure everytime somone new joins you're going over the same thing again, but all this is very new to me, in fact i've done very little this past week except read articles and cross reference the wt cd rom..lol, everyone thinks i'm getting spiritual again, anyway!

i have read several references to the jws and the un.. can anyone shed some light on the matter, ie point me in the direction of good posts or articles about it, as i'm still unclear what has been going on.

i'm most interested in the facts of the case which is what i think this board is best at!.

We (husband and I) resigned from the JWs after being in for over 30 yrs, because of the UN scandal and the hypocrisy that went along with it. We found it almost impossible to believe and at first thought it must have been those "evil apostates" who were spreading rumours. It took us months to verify all of the information, and we now have a large lever-arch full of information. We telephoned the UN in New York, wrote a letter to the UN, and even emailled them. Each time they confirmed that the WT had indeed been an NGO for almost 10 years and would have had to comply with the criteria as laid out for any NGO.

We asked for two of the elders from the Hereford congregation to call to see us, which they did. We let them see all of the original information received from the UN including even the envelope with the UN postmark. We gave them copies to take away and they said that they would check it out and get back to us - they never did get back to us.

We also wrote to the London Bethell, asking them to reply to our concerns re: above points and more. They didn't even acknowledge our letter.

We have the UN letter and env. with postmark and lots of other info. which you are welcome to view if you want to call in to see us here in Hereford. We can send copies if you wish but sometimes its better to actually see the orginal documents.

hi, i am a friend of dedpoet, i think he may have posted about me occasionally, and he has kindly allowed me to join the forum from his pc as i do not have internet access at home.

i have known trev (dedpoet) since he first joined the same congregation as me 14 years ago, and we have always been friends.

i was very sad when he left us some years ago, but have maintained contact with him, something that has got me in trouble with the elders just lately now he is disassociated.

What you are going through now is difficult but will get easier with time, and with the help of so many on this board. The shunning was always a problem for me, I just couldn't do it, it didn't seem christian at all. Now when we go shopping through our town (Hereford) we are sometimes shunned, but I just think, pity them really cos they are still held in the mind-control cult. We had written to the London Bethell and our own congregation asking questions about the UN involvement etc. but they ignored us.

We were both in the Org. for 32 years and sometimes feel bitter over all of the wasted years, times when we could have spent more time with our families. My husband's parents (non-witnesses) are dead now, so he can't try to make amends, but my parents are still alive (both in their late 80's & non-witnesses) so at least I have the chance to make up for some of the times I missed with them.

Welcome Onesong, its so good to have you here with us. You comments are very interesting and we feel much the same. We were in the Org for 32 years, but thankfully, we came out together and none of our grown-up children are left in, they made up their own minds years ago.

What were the questions that you were asking? Our questions (like so many others here) were UN involvement, failed prophecies and Paedophilia cover ups.

Do you JW's believe that during the 1000 yr reign that all the dead will JW

i was wondering especially from some of the old timers out there jw's or ex-jw's that really understand the jw's concept of the reserrected dead during the 1000 reign of jesus christ.

do they believe that the people brought back from the dead will have to convert to jw's in order to live on for eternity?

i know this sounds like a stupid question but i was talking to a jw's elder the other day and he told me that people like my grandmother who was a "devout born-again baptist" would have to study and become a jw's in the 1000 year reign before she could enter into paradise.

You say that you don't know what the JWs teach anymore - well things haven't changed much, they teach LIES.

Many of the books we had spent hours and hours studying, are "old Hat" according to one elder in our old cong. Where in the bible does it mention having to go to a KH to worship?

Why write a letter of disassociation?

my question may seem vague but if one decides to leave "the organization", why write a formal letter?

why not just leave and not have any further contact with the witnesses?

is there some legitimate legal reason for this or do people do this because the witness thinking has overtaken their logic?

We wrote a letter, because we wanted them to know that we could not in any way agree with their hypocrisy (UN thing etc) and their handling of paedophile cases, along with many other issues. We had already sent out letters to friends in the cong. to let them know our feelings on these matters. We didn't view our letter as curtailing to Elders, just the opposit in fact. We had taken back control of our lives and wanted them to know exactly what we thought of ones who could go along with such lies & hypocrisy. (Two of these elders had come to our home - weeks before we sent our letter - and had viewed the original letter from the UN confirming the affiliation of the WT) They had no excuse, but they still chose to go along with the WT action.

We're glad that we sent our letter. No-one phones us or calls on us anymore. Of course, it's much more difficult for ones who still have family in the Org. Fortunately, only my own brother and his wife and family are still in, but he still speaks to me, and I hope that one day he will make a stand against the cult.

I cannot understand the Salvation Army's viewpoint, it's almost a case of putting man's rules in place of Jesus' words.

Do many other churches have the same idea i.e. not having communion?

Iv'e only ever been a Catholic or a JW. so I don't know much about other religions.

Is Michael the Archangel really Jesus?

for years i have believed what the wt says about michael the archangel really being another name for jesus christ.

but now i am reading lots of other non-witness books, i am beginning to question this teaching.. has anyone done any research on this particular subject.. your comments would be appreciated.

Thanks Narkissos - I have made a note of the websites and will also have a look in my catholic bible. I was brought up as a catholic, but we never really used the bible to the full during my school years.

The SA, does not have the bread and wine ceremony/service, and the wife, (her husband believes that they should partake of the bread and wine) has been prayerfully searching to see if they should really take of the Bread and Wine. She was a Methodist, before becoming a JW, and was used to partaking in those days.

She has asked if I could put this question open to you all for your comments. Unfortunately, she doesn't have internet access, but I have promised to print out any replies for her to read.
