It's definately worth bringing this info to peoples attention, as you have said, there are a lot of new ones who are only just becoming aware of the UN Scandal. It was the "Big" revelation for me a couple of years ago
thanks

i have only just seen this letter, and although it is old news, it is still new for some.. for anyone who wants definite proof that the wt lied about its reasons for becoming an ngo, read below.... http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/pdfs/watchtower.pdf.

we went to lunch at our local cafe on saturday, and there were two families - still jws, also dining there, (in different parts of the cafe).
we expected the usual shunning treatment, but surprisingly they initiated the "hellos and how are you" and seemed genuinely pleased to see us (we have been out of the org for over 3 yrs now and we are always shunned whenever we see former jw friends) it was such a surprise to us and we couldn't help wondering if the governing body have issued "new light" on the treatment of disassociated ones.
especially as these two families have completely avoided us for a long time, even though we personally wrote to them to explain our reasons for leaving (un involvement etc+) .
Saoirse - Thanks for sharing the WT article with us. It's interesting, but just as others have noted, it doesn't seem to be an obvious change in the shunning policy.
I suppose it could depend on the answers given from the rank and file during the WT study.
Welcome Queenvelvet, it was good to hear your experiences - look forward to hearing more from you.

That does sound interesting, have you got the literature with the article, I would be really interested to see that.
It would be good to think that perhaps they are on their way out of the Borg too. They are really nice people but just like us, have been well and truly brainwashed.

Thanks Gumby,
We haven't got any spies in the camp, and so we don't hear much about things that may be changing with the witnesses. I'm really glad to hear that there is apathy - let's hope many will start to think for themselves. The shunning policy is so far removed from what Christianity should really be, in fact we feel that it is an evil policy. We would have loved to have been able to speak for a longer period with these ones, but you just know that in many instances they will turn a deaf ear.

Has anyone else has noticed similar behaviour,?
Perhaps the Org. is worried about "Inciting religious hatred" and the legal effects that it could have on them and their finances.

.
or what do you regret most about being a jw?.
for me it's being alienated by my twin daughters.
One of the most hurtful, was when I first started studying with the JWs, I believed them about the sacredness of Blood. I was pregnant with my second child and knew that I would have problems with Blood (I'm rhesus negative, my first son is rhesus positive - this then creates the problem of jaundice in the second baby) My second child was born and was very ill (jaundiced because of incompatibility of blood) I refused a blood transfusion for him, but (thankfully) his father (not a JW) over-rode my decision. A transfusion was given to him. But even though thirty years have gone by, my son still cannot really understand how I could have been prepared to allow him to die. I was so brain-washed, and its so hard to try to make up for this stupidity, although my son doesn't hold this against me now. He knows just how much I really love him.

i feel so sad about our friend ary, and my prominant memory of him is the sad look in his eyes when he spoke of his daughters.
he was aware of how we lost our daughter, and he even felt bad complaining because at least his daughters were alive.
i told him not to feel that way, that at least we could find a measure of closure, but he was on a constant roller coaster ride.
Thank you for sharing with us Sabine, Your situation is so very sad. It appears that many people commit suicide due to the shunning/disfellowshipping policy. The JWs have a lot to answer for - their teachings are far from Christ like, I would go so far as to say that they are evil.
I'm glad that this forum has helped a little.

i did.
many, actually.
and i regret that they're (many) still active witnesses.
Yes a few. One was a friend that I also worked with - she shuns me now.
And unfortunately my own brother and his wife. They are still in the JWs, although I have given them all the evidence about the UN Scandal and other lies. It's so frustrating, it seems that it is almost impossible to get through to people, it seems that they have to discover these things for themselves.
