Sirona,
You don't believe mass dilusion is possible? If not, then every religion in the world would have to be true.

Played with a ouija for the first time. You'll NEVER guess what happened!
by scotsman inaside from much hilarity.
our host insisted that the spirits don't like having the piss taken so didn't appear, the sensitive wee souls that they are.. yet another barrier broken.

I know that if I were in that situation I would not be able to resist the temptation to cheat. It would be fun! It's not hard to see through the bottom of a blindfold if it is not fastened correctly.

Man, the Watchtower Society has really messed with people and their ability to critically observe reality. It is unbelievable to me how many on this board actually believe in the paranormal. Many do without having any experiences of their own, and the many who have had "experiences" they turn out to be ordinary mundane coincidences or hallucinations explainable by sleep paralysis.
Unbelievable. Then they try to act like science can't explain it. News flash! There is a scientific study of the paranormal called parapsychology and absolutely nothing has been found in about 100 years of detailed research. Not a thing. I'm not talking about non-scientist fan-boy ghost hunter hobbyists. I'm talking about serious research. With that amount of time and effort, if anything existed it would have been found by now - especially considering how "common" these experiences seem to be.
The Watchtower still has control over you and you don't even know it. Sure, it must be satisfying to believe in such rubbish, but it was also satisfying to believe I would never die. Time to move on and join the rest of the rational world.

Evolutionist Caught in a Lie
by Kenneson ineugenie scott of the national center for science education has written a retraction, after being slapped with a libel suit.
she wrongly accused roseville, california attorney larry caldwell of presenting for adoption to the school board two books on young-earth creation, one (get this!
) published by jehovah's witnesses.

Ah, we can't be too hard on Heathen. Science and critical thinking are hard. Belief is easy. He's just not ready for it yet. Unfortunately he hasn't taken Abraham Lincoln's advice about remaining silent when you don't know what the hell you are talking about. :)
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

Anyone pronouncing the wicked one righteous.........
by defd inand anyone pronouncing the righteous one wicked-even both of them are something detestble to jehovah, says proverbs 17:15. amid a world that is becoming entrenched in its opposition to god, it would be wise for us to look at our own attitude and values.
periodically, we should examine ourselves to make sure we are not gradually drifting away from jehovahs thinking and standards.
we might for example ask ourselves: have i become more tolerant of practices that god condemns?

Dude, have you even read the Hebrew Scriptures? God's thinking and standards are pretty whack!

Heathen,
If you were educated on the subject you would know that the flaws of evolution are taught in school. But the flaws are very technical in nature and are usually discussed in detail in higher level courses. No one is hiding anything.
I love how the creationsists are trying to ride this one... going on and on about truth. It's always been the scientists who make retractions and corrections as they find errors. Creationists never make retractions no matter how many times their errors are exposed.

Do you secretly wish for a demon attack - serious question
by stillajwexelder in.
i am not trying to compete with fmz as he has a supernatural thread going already but - do you secretlyt wish for a demon attack - serious question - the reason i ask this is because - if i had a demon attack it would mean there was a satan the devil and if there was a satan it would mean there was god.
what i am trying to say in a nutshell is "a demon attack would actually strengthen my faith" where at the moment it is non-existent almost

It's amazing how many demon attacks can be explained by sleep paralysis. It has happened to me too. Seems real, seems like you are awake, but you're not. Hallucinations are common. It can be very scary.

So how do you explain this....
by loosie ini didn't want to hi jack this thread.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/95312/1.ashx.
but i wanted to open this up for discussion.
since being raised a jw, everything unexplainable has been attributed to demons.

lmao@daystar... pretty good! :)
Thanks TS!
I think I'm pretty much done with this thread. If they want to read a great book and be enlightened, great. If not, so be it. All I ask is that they don't pretend to know what science has to say about the subject when they haven't even taken the smallest step in becoming informed.

Freedom,
If you were really talking about a BMW, then yes you could take that at face value *because it is not an extraordinary claim*.
If I tell you I saw a purple unicorn in my backyard yesterday would you just believe me without some type of good evidence? If you did, many would find you extremely creulous and gullible. The thing is that many people don't take this powerful concept to heart when it goes against their closeley held beleifs.
Saying you saw ghosts is an extraordinary claim. Surely you saw something, but you would have to meticulously eliminate every single natural explanation before you could realistically say it was a ghost. This would probably be impossible in your case because there is not enough information other than what your senses told you. Beyond that, I could just as easily tell you that your interpretation of the belief is wrong - it was not a ghost but smurfs. What makes your explanation any better than mine?
The book is not going to tell you what you saw. The book is going to show you how to think critically, something we were never taught in the Society. It is going to show you what the latest scientific thinking is on the subject, and I assure you it is fascinating.

Legolas,
Also, I want to go one step further. Above I said it could be ghosts, but it is difficult to prove. Someone else can just as easily come into the conversation and posit space aliens or fairies, elves, invisible pink unicorns, etc... Get the picture? If you have no way of proving or disproving your position then you're on equal ground with any other crackpot theory. This means you cannot say with any conviction other than belief that your theory is the correct one.
How would you argue that ghosts or paranormal is more likely than advanced space alien creatures?
It's a very difficult position to defend.
