i'm wondering if the majority here were seriously conservative squeaky clean dubs?
i took the whole thing very seriously.
there seems to be such a fun element here - i can't imagine everyone being those dull folk all decked out in their wt uniform with accompanying plastic expressions.. marilyn

Thanks for your concern. It seems that some other developments have come up. It is indeed the end for me as far as this religion is concerned. I'm not too worried about it since I've been away from the JW lifestyle for a while now. It seems my in-laws were responsible for turning me in, and the only reason I did not want to be formally DF'd or DA'd was so I could still associate with them. Now it seems as there is no longer any point in trying to keep association with them, since they have decided they don't want it.
The elders came by my house (uninvited) yet again to inform me that a committee was created and they wanted to know if I would like to attend. I told them I would think about it. They are waiting for a call from me now.
I've pondered it and I'm still not sure what I really want to do. Part of me just wants to blow it all off and let them do whatever they want - it won't affect me. Another part of me wants to attend the meeting and see what actual charge and evidence against me they have. It would be more for my entertainment, really, than to defend myself.
I do agree that being officially DF'd will allow me to be more free and it will make things easier, such as holiday and birthday celebrations if we choose to observe them in the future. And of course the book recommendations will go right back up after I'm DF'd! :)
I'm almost positive I will be DF'd by the end of this month, if not by the end of this week. I'll keep you guys updated if anything interesting happens.

heard a report on the radio this morning of a large civilization 4000 years before sumer.
there was also mention that it had been destroyed by a flood which was attributed to melting ice.
i wasn't quite awake at the time but this article in yesterday's indian express provides some details.
Thomas,
The carbon-14 dating method is not much good beyond 3500 years.Huh? Carbon 14 dating is good out to about 50,000 years. Do you have a cite?
Here is an explanation of C14 dating methods for laypersons:

sadiejive,
And I think this statement...I didn't see any other reasons in the article. All I saw were baseless claims. I suppose that is acceptable for an eight year old, but not a rational adult.And...that's why I believe in God....was not a reference to just this statement...I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases....but rather directed at the entire article.
I also enjoyed this list:
1. If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.But why stop there? Why not keep some additional thoughts throughout the coming years:
2. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
3. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.
4. Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.
5. He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your
heart.
6. What about the Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem; not to
mention that Friday at Calvary.
7. God provides extra special viruses and deadly bacteria to kill off the weak, old, and young. Sometimes he spares the victims so they can live the rest of their lives disabled and in pain.
8. God loves the people living in industrialized nations much more than those in 3rd world nations, so he makes sure they have enough to eat every day.
9. Be glad that God gives us the gift of earthquakes, volcanoes, storms and other natural disasters. He must love us a lot.
10. Treasure the sight of seeing a pack of wild dogs eat a wildebeest alive. Don't worry that the wildebeest is still conscious and in great pain with every bite, it's God's wonderful way!
11. Isn't it wonderful that god created the physical laws of the universe so that the sun will explode in some billions of years? Won't that be a wonderful sight for our progeny to see!
12. Thank the Lord that he saw fit to destroy over 99% of all species that have ever lived on this earth. And you thought that man was causing unprecidented extinction of animals today! Yes, man was most definately created in God's image.
etc., etc., etc...
Some are too quick to only attribute the good to God. That shows a definite selective reasoning process to me.

for those who would like a synopses of this issue for what ever reason, i would like to try and put as many of the confusing pieces together as i can.
why they chose to do it at a kingdom hall is understandable.
mark made his post and revealed a few facts in this issue that were suppressed by the gag order.
Joel,
I believe you have been neutral all along. Skepticism doesn't mean taking sides or debunking, it just means witholding judgement until there is sufficient evidence to base a conclusion (especially in the strict pyrrhonistic sense). Right now there is not enough information for a skeptical person (such as myself) to make a confident judgement.

hey peeps, how are you?.
the name is mark, i've been hanging around here from time to time.
i read about the elders meeting with officer danni.s.
Haha - Brutal, Cygnus. I love it!
Perhaps some of us were on H20 way back when we had a so called Governing Body member taking us all for a ride. I think a little skepticism is in order here. And even if this is all for real, they are going after the wrong freaking guys. The elders are just pawns following orders from HQ. Brooklyn is where the decision makers are and that is where change will have to come from. This little episode is not going change policy.
And no, I am not, nor do I support pedophiles. And before someone accuses me of just sitting on my ass and not caring for the children, take into consideration that I've helped many more people out of this organization than I have ever helped recruit into it.

we've been out three years after many many years enmeshed in the org; not df'd or da'd, just fading away for family's sake.
this is a letter we received this morning from a jw friend of 25 years' standing who has continued to invite us to her house for meals, and eat with us during the past three years.. dear****, when i first knew you had ceased coming to the meetings, my heart felt love for you both, made me visit you.
the intention was to win back my dear brother and sister.. over a period of time i have come to realize that you have ceased associating with jehovah's organization and my conscience now feels i cannot continue our association.. i am sorry to lose you as friends.
SexyTeen,
Is it not possible for a Protestant to have a Catholic friend he loves very much, though he does not go to Catholic church services with him? I blelieve so. The only religions where participation is a prerequisite to friendship are cult-like ones, such as Jehovah's Witnesses.
