Why Did Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009?
by JW_Researcher inwhile even non-peaceful people have been awarded the peace prize (e.g.
arafat, kissinger), i am confused as to how obama could possibly have won the award one year after being the first term junior senator from illinois with zero “peace” experience (other than his ‘well-articulated’ rhetoric)..
reading the obama-pining on a couple of posts made me reexamine my view of barry’s presidency..

recovering-Just as proof of how powerful Facebook political Influences can be we just need to look to the Arab spring. It changed the face of mideast politics . Look at how many middle eastern countries where involved in either civil wars or the to changes in rulership during this period.
Facebook, rather Mark Z did an experiment on a few small little country's several years ago and cut FB off for the most part for them, Not only that but tweaked portions of it. The political system went into ciaos. Let me see what I can find...https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41801071
That is just one example. I cant find the one I was looking for but it may be in the article somewhere. Its Mark Z that is colluding. Haven't you noticed that since the rise of FB the fit has hit the shan.
This has nothing to do with Trump.
On that note, politicians use the platform to get there crappy messages out. And people spread their own misinformation on FB and fb for the most part lets them.
Did Russia interfere? Yes, Yes they did. BUT WHO LET THEM? Mark Zukenfucker! The richest man on the planet that could literally take down the entire planet with a few keystrokes. Why is this NOT the issue?

How do you feel about the JWS religion after being out more than 10, 20, 30 years ?
by Finkelstein inmyself being a born in and completely out for more than 30 years i see more of the damage of what this religious cult causes people .. part of myself leaving had to do with the psychological harm it was causing people back in the 1970's, one guy my age at the time hung himself out anxiety and depression.. the numerous suicides that have occurred in numbers is shocking to say the least.. then there is the many families breaking up.. marriages breaking apart because one member decides to leave the jws.. the deaths of members or their children from refusing a blood transfusion.. this hit me personally when my mother refused a bt when she was ill in the hospital and died.. over the years and observing all of these things reminds me how glad and fortunate i left when i did but i do find it responsible to others to expose this religious cult to what can happen to people who get involved with it and that's what i've been doing on this forum and elsewhere.

I've been out for almost 2 decades. With a brief back in back out a few times. It was only over a year ago that the rest became dismantled.
I have to drive by a kh everyday. I check in with myself sometimes to see where my thoughts are when I see the kh. Lately I notice I feel indifferent. Not mad, not empathetic just nothing much. I do have pity for them. And honestly I think that some people belong there, because many jws believe so deeply that it could quite literally kill them to 'wake up'.
I view them as sort of a large corporate company I 'worked' at/for, but got fired from and blacklisted from rehire. Which seems just about right to me.

Paranoia and Delusion.
by Lost in the fog inok so i know that this is a very long article about mental illness issues, but it was the definitions at the start of the discussion which reminded me of the wt organisation.

I've known many jws that were paranoid. Hallucinations of the devil etc. I don't think it's jw specific.
Cognitive dissonance can cause paranoia and psychosis.
My bio mother has schizophrenia.(exjw) One minute acts like an angel. One minute sees one. Acts like the devil. Claims demons are attacking her. Then suddenly everything is ok. She is an absolute handful and then some. I will say that her being shunned and being the original scapegoat of the jw family didn't help one bit. It exacerbated it. I wish I could have helped her. But I cant make her take her medication.
My great aunt that raised me was paranoid. My bio moms sister has had hallucinations of demons. My ex wife. Gezz, lots of jws now that I think of it. I really think it has a lot to do with cognitive dissonance and a guilty conscience per jw 'rule breaking' and trauma. They make you, 'indoctrinate you' to fear so many 'normal' things.
Still, I don't feel its jw specific. But they certainly don't help.

Ex JW of 30 years , still messed up from it
by Doubledecker inhi , this is my first post .. i left jws 30 years ago as 18 year old unbaptised youth and after the initial fallout from leaving pretty much put the whole thing in a box and buried it .. however , i am now starting to realise how much the doomsday messages and the ‘them and us’ doctrines that’s fed to you from birth has remained in my core beliefs.. how have others managed to reprogram themselves ?.
thanks for reading , have a good day .

When I realized just this last year and I'm in my 40s that many other people from other fundamentalist religious backgrounds feel the same way about core beliefs did I start viewing things differently.
I like this definition of "belief" - A belief is just a thought you keep thinking over and over again.
Personally I would recommend working on building upon your value system and new beliefs will rise out of that. Its something that I am working on and its helping. I found that my value system is way different than what I was taught to believe.

JeffT- Aren't we ON social media here? We're a bunch of people talking to each other over the internet. I would take that as evidence that we like THIS social media. Or are FB and twitter the only things that count?
I knew this question was coming. And it is a good one. What separates them are many things. I copied this from webstrategist -
Forums are like social mixers, where everyone is at equal level, milling about and discussing with others. These many to many communication tools allow anyone to start a topic and anyone to respond to one. Members are often at equal level, and content is usually segmented by topic. (rather than by people).
Blogs are like a keynote speech where the speaker (blogger) is in control of the discussion, but allows questions and comments from the audience.
Blogs are journals often authored by one individual, and sometimes teams. In the context of business communication, these are often used to talk with the marketplace and to join the conversation that existing external bloggers may be having.Social Networks are like topic tables at a conference luncheon. Ever been to a conference where different lunch tables had big white signs inviting people to sit and join others of like interest? It’s like that. Social networks allow members to organize around a person’s relationships or interests, rather that just focused on topic. People that know each other (or want to meet each other) will connect by a variety of common interests.
--------------------------------------
This is this particular writers interpretation. There are many. But this one seems to break it down short enough.
The Fall Guy-Anonymity is the key here - Twatter, BookFace et al are social minefields which have/can blow up people's lives, relationships and careers.
Certain has blown up mine several times. Even if I do my best to stay in the little corner so as not to "trigger anyone". It is like walking in a minefield. Once had an an employer that wanted all the new hires FB pages . I said no. they said 'you don't work here then'. A dozen of us walked out. Got another job in under an hour with an employer that thought those people were insane.
Anonymity does seem key.
Fb, does seem like a popularity contest where one is forever 15 years old until the day they die. I have to many issues with it to go into.

Why the Oxygen Special will not work like we think it will...
by HiddenPimo inwithin the very documentary is a reason i think that jw's for the most part will not wake up even if they watch this program.
the one lady actually saw as her family sat behind the abuser in court supporting him despite the established fact that he had abused their very own child.. this shows how deep the indoctrination is.
i am not saying that some won't wake up, but the majority will carry on, not even because they think these things are lies but because they will look past that at all costs to side with jehovah.

I cannot comment on the Oxygen special as I probably will not watch it.
However, I had to read "Crisis of Conscience" many times over for my brain to start to crack. I was that damn indoctrinated and dumb.

Do You Support Police and Law Enforcement?
by minimus inrecently black lives matter representatives have encouraged people to spit in law enforcement officials foods.
some people are going into police stations and trying to kill innocent officers.
federal officials are marked for death because they try to administer the law.. what is your opinion of this type of lawlessness?.
-
caves
I do. But at one time I did not.
My uncle that helped raise me was a cop that would regularly beat me with his police nightstick. It took many years and several "nice interactions" and lots of reflection on my part to get over that.
Now I support them. Imagine what they see on a daily basis. I couldn't do it.
Sure there are crooked police and law enforcement. That's in every profession. But I would rather get a ticket I didn't deserve because a cop was in a "mood" than have murders on the loose with no help at all from law enforcement.
I've met some really great police officers. I've met some real shitty ones. I always wonder what was the tipping point for the crap ones. Was it the bloody scene they had to walk into for the 100th time. I cut them some major slack in regards any attitude they may have. Most of the time.
At the same time I have gone head to head with a few officers in court and won. Meaning no ticket or fines if they were out of line beyond a doubt that anyone could plainly see or I could prove.
I think 99% of police and law enforcement just want to do there job and go home and have a life, like any other human.
