i thought it would be interesting for people to just post a few things about themselves so we can get to know each other just a bit.. try posting 10 facts about your life.. joel.

1. i was born and raised in south georgia.. 2. my favorite subject in school was math.. 3. i was in the fulltime service (bethel and pioneer) for 4 years.. 4. my favorite color is blue.. 5. mitch and i have been together over 12 years.. 6. we live in a suburb of atlanta georgia.. 7. we love to eat out and have friends over for dinner and board games.. 8. the only sport i was ever any good at is tennis.. 9. my favorite tv show of all time is the simpsons.. 10. we are both naturists and wish we could lay on the beach naked every day.

Okay - 10 facts about me that no one really wants to know:

10. i have lived in over 15 States (altered not included)
9. was born in alabama...so my name would not be roy it would be ro-eeeee
8. i played drums on the stage of the Grand Ol Opry (that's right, no one else was there)
7. i have a 1982 FLHS Harley Davidson that i customized
6. i love all music, and have had dinner with Willie Nelson on his bus, although rock is my music of choice
5. Gulf Shores, Alabama is the greatest place in the world (damn, now everyone will go there)
4. i would weigh 300 lbs and be an alcoholic if I lived in New Orleans
3. through much trial and lots of error, i found the most wonderful person in the world
2. this person, Tanya, married me 7 and half years ago
1. a beautiful, 2 and a half year old little girl that is is already smarter than I ever will be

it is fifteen hundred years before jesus christ.

an israeli soldier of jah stands ready in his place outside the walls of jericho.

finally, as the walls crumble down, many people of jericho scatter and run, including families with babies in mommy's arm, children clutching their daddy's hand.. an israelite soldier see one of these families, and according to his marching orders, runs after this family.

I can remember asking those types of questions of my older brother, also an elder, when I was 12 or so. How can a loving God command his people to do such awful things? I never have understood this.

It was this type of thing that led me down the path to being df'ed, and to also keep questioning....everything!

Thanks for reminding me, in you well written account, to question everything.

what do you consider to be the most stupid rules or tradition of the jw lives?

im thinking about any kind of rule or regulative that only has one answer to the questions why:.

I can remember in the late 60's and early 70's being told at a convention that we could not watch Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie, Dark Shadows, etc. I would sneak around to watch when I was not around my mom or brothers and sisters. They were afraid that the "demons" would come right through the TV into your living room
BTW - Why did it seem like all the "good" TV shows were on Tuesday and Thursday nights?[>:(]

I guess that I do believe in a spiritual realm, although what that is and whay that involves I am not sure. From the concept of reincarnation to ghosts to angels, I do think there is something around us all the time. Some of us may be more intuned to it than others Now the thought of a God as I was raised to belive, I do doubt to some degree.

Thanks for sharing. I have had other people tell me similar stories, to the point of causing the person to take an acrtion that may have prevented an accident or injury to themselves or someone they know. I can understand being spooked, especially with our upbringing as JW's and the whole demonic influence thing. That was an odd intering thing that happened to me that day...

Anybody else had visions?

when i was separating from my wife and leaving the jws, i had some visions.

for some strange reason, i decided not to eat for a day, then when i found my thinking clearer and my emotions mellower, i fasted for another two days.

so after the third day, i was walking down our street and i saw the houses burning after me, i felt this was an affirmation that marriage was decay and destruction, or wasteage.

As a child (ages4-5) I would often have dreams that would come to "life" later and actully happen, usually within a week of the dream. For the most part I kept this to myself, but felt as though I knew things others did not.

Around the age of 5 I remember telling my mother about this. Big mistake. She being a devout JW, quickly told me that it was wrong for me to do this and that it was Satan and his demons. I was instructed to pray for forgiveness and to "never do that again, because people can not dream about the future". Being the good little JW boy I was, I did exactly as she asked.

It was not until later, in my late teens that I was able to do this again and have psychic moments. bboyneko is right on target, one day we will realize there is so much more and that we are more "connected" than many of us realize.

this is my first time on a message board relating to anything jw.

i haven't posted anything in the past because i still held to the fear that it would be betraying what i was taught, betraying my family, betraying god.

this is precisely my life as it is now.

Met my first Elder after diassociation

well i met my first witness (and it would have to be an elder who i always got on well with) last night after my disassociation 3 weeks ago and i was not prepared for how hard it felt.

i had the most human reaction of recognising someone i knew and had to stop myself saying hi.

he just rushed past me.

Hi aud8,
I can certainly relate, my older brother is an elder and my brother-in-law, they avoid me at all costs. The other elders have even look me in the eye and not acknowledge me.

Although this was hard for me at first, I have grown to understand that they know no better. They cannot see what they are doing and I try to understand and go on.

I will sometimes go out of my way to say hello at times...just for fun

As some of you may have noticed I always include this quote with my signature - "Why is it when we talk to God we're praying - but when God talks to us, we're schizophrenic?". I am poking some fun at this concept basically, as I tend to do with all things.

However, a few years ago, driving in my car on the way to work, I heard a very clear, audible voice that was not mine. There was no one else in the car, the radio was not on. I have not been diagnosed with schizophrenia or other ailments. I have gone to the doctor to make sure that I am not crazy, what ever that may be defined as.

Here is the fun part, what I heard. The voice clearly said, "God is everywhere. God is everything. God will protect you." Being the sarcastic-agnostic I am I was not sure what this meant or if it meant anything. Part of me thought "well, this is cool" and the other part of me thought I was heading to the the mental ward and a new padded room. Raised as a JW, I was taught you are not supposed to hear this type of thing. Although in my studies of other religions, beliefs and cultures it appears to happen often.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? While the good doctors do not think I am crazy, I have to wonder, what are your thoughts?

I have pretty much accepted this an a real occurance in my life and feel fortunate to have had the experience. While it may have been weird at the time and I had to struggle for a while with it, it has made life interesting for me.

Now with all that said, if it were really a message from God, why do I still consider myself an agnostic?
