Wow LyinEyes, you actually gave a proper witness to this lady by telling her that she can be saved by the grace of God and not by doing things as the Witnesses pretend to do: by works. I think that God helped you say the right thing to her and it made her tearfully joyful!

I have been taught falsehood over so many years by the Watchtower and to tell you the truth, I am actually thankful to God that I had to go through all these miserable years being a Witness only to find out that I never really had the truth to begin with, otherwise perhaps I would have never realized it. I was so miserable that I could not see a way out - I eventually started to go to a church in the neighborhood with some ex-witness friends and not long after I went on my knees and prayed and begged God to show me the real truth - by doing that He showed me what I had to do: accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior with all my heart and sincerity and confess my sins to Him. I felt so free and thankful to my God that He showed me that one can be completely forgiven by the grace of God by sincerely asking for it! Now I feel so different - I used to hate the Witnesses but not anymore - I feel so sorry for them as they are so trapped through this brainwashing method over all those years forcing them to believe that to serve God is by doing works and do "good" according to their rules and regulations. Most of my family are still involved and shun me since I was d'fd a couple of years ago - sure, I miss them very much and I will try every opportunity to see them, but as it stands now I can get the strength and love I need from Jesus Christ as he can give me the power to lift me up and cope with life. He gives you this comfort, assurance and peace in your life - it's almost like He walks with me every second of the day - remember that poem about the footprints in the sand? It's really true - He carries you over all the obstacles in your life and the Holy Spirit guides you to want to do what is right. I am eternally grateful that God has given me eternal life and will give it to anyone who will sincerely ask Him to forgive their sins and accept Him in your heart as Lord and Savior.

Thanks for the story - I hope that you can continue to help her with the comfort and real truth from the scriptures and show that God gives unconditional love - she'll be your friend forever!

Clinton's record on the economy is not because of him, but IN SPITE of him. When you look at the economies around the free Western world during the Clinton years, you'll see a similar pattern of relative prosperity and it has very little to do with actual governing a country if you know what I mean....

Right on Yeru! - Your comments exactly echo my sentiments about Bush! At least Bush shows character and a willingness to stand up to terrorists and deal with them as he should. The economy has improved and taxes are lower. Of course there are still a lot of things to be worked on, but hey...the previous administrations' mismanagements (8 years of Pinocchio Clinton) necessitate a lot of repairing.....

i can't help but discover things that make me have serious doubts about jehovah's witnesses as a whole.

but... and this is a big but.... what if they are god's organisation?

i feel as if i'm being blackmailed... if i don't make a go of this religion i'm effectivly killing my young daughter if it is jehovah's organisation.. my mum ( a pioneer and a lovely woman!

hello everyone....i'm new here.. i was raised as a jw until i turned 19 when i decided to stop attending the meetings.

i just rathered not think about it for a few years.

Just received the book The Four Presidents of the Watchtower Society. I am reading it now and I am already sick to my stomach how vulgar, vile and utterly wicked these Presidents were. And that I belonged to this wicked organization is beyond me. I recommend any thinking person to buy this book. You will never ever be sympathetic to their ungodly and unscriptural doctrines anymore. I pray to God that most of my family (who are still in the deceiving grip of the Society) will be able to eventually see for themselves what a false and crooked organization they are "serving".

What must we do to be saved?

jw's love this topic and have a long list of "do's & don'ts" that need to be completed in order to be saved.

as you all know - it is a "works based" belief - if you do enough you might make it.

i have struggled with that concept since i was little, wondering how in the world we could ever do enough to be considered worthy.

Those who are not saved CAN be saved by WANTING to be saved. The only thing God asks us to do is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord in your heart, not halfheartedly but sincerely so and out of a pure heart. God gives us life FREE, we do not have to do works to earn God's gift - it's by means of God's grace that we can be saved. So my desire is to tell anyone about Jesus Christ and to show them that the only thing they have to do to receive life free as a gift is to accept Him as your Lord. So everybody has a chance for life, but only when people draw close to God by accepting Jesus will He give us life. It's as simple as that! Then when the Holy Spirit resides in you, you will feel that - you are driven to do what is right. Of course, we still make mistakes and sin often, but Jesus died for mankind, sothat our sins can be FORGIVEN once and for all times.

Thank you for your interesting thread. I too became a believer in that I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. The interesting thing is that I now do understand the bible. When you're saved (by accepting Jesus as your Lord), you will experience the Holy Spirit who is living inside of you and he will guide and direct you in your "new" life. You're driven to pursue a more wholesome way of life and your whole outlook will be changed for the better. One important thing to remember is: do NOT read the NWT translation as it is full of alterations and changes from the original translations. I prefer the NIV bible, although the new King James I like too. It doesn't matter which bible you read, except don't read the NWT, as it only confuses you.

Otherwise, thanks so much for the explanation in your thread, as that makes all the sense in the world.

The news media I compared FOX with were written in my previous posts. I am sure that there exist other less-known media organizations such as the ones you mentioned. Isn't C-Span more a media where they show live-programming on political issues without adding private comments and reporting? The other one you mentioned (NPR) I do not know, but could you please enlighten me? Appreciate it!
