And those things break very easily. I can't imagine them being practical for FS.

JWism- Bibical Conversion or Cult Indoctrination?
by Think About It insomething that always bothered me when i was in was how long it took someone to become a jehovah witness.
many accounts in the bible had people becoming a christian immediately, overnight, or in a very brief time.
with becoming a jehovah witness it was always like a cult indoctrination rather than a bible account conversion.. here are the steps as i remember them.

As I recall, the explanation for the instantaneous conversions back in the 1st century was that they were all Jews, so they already knew the "truth" with the exception of accepting Jesus as the Christ. So, a short chariot ride or talk in the town square was sufficient to "convert" them.
Evidently, the early Christians didn't worry too much about the character of the person like JWs do now. After all, the apostles were constantly ranting about bad conduct in the congregations.

I never dated while JW, but at 18 I was pushed into a bad marriage that I worked hard to make better. Worked for 27 years to try to be the perfect JW wife - submissive, diligent, respectful - and nothing ever changed.
Finally I realized that JWs were not the true religion and that exploded my reasons for sticking it out in a miserable marriage. Left 'em both in one fell swoop and haven't looked back.
So, yes I'm single.

GSD - That's a quote from English poet George Herbert.
I always believed that if I drew away from Jehovah my life would crumble and I'd be under constant demon attack. I feel that having a successful life away from the Borg proves that wrong.

How in the heck are these people JWs? He was an elder in her cong and they had an affair? She was in law enforcement? When did she become a Dub? Kid doing the peeping tom on his stepmother? Dad has facial hair! Sleeping with ex-wife? Was she a JW too? Kid on crystal meth? No mention of any congregation action. Something's not adding up. Maybe I'll have to read the book.
They seem like a scummy family, no matter how you slice it.

What evidence is there for Jesus (NOT USING THE BIBLE)?
by punkofnice ini have often wondered if there is any actual archealogical evidence that jesus existed other than the claims of the bible.. i don't want to go down the route of 'you can't prove he didn't exist' as this is tiresome.
or 'well pontius pilate existed we found a stone with his name on so it follows jesus existed!
' that won't cut it.

The question could be expanded to include any Bible character. Esther, Ruth, Moses, David?
I've wondered about that too. All I have in my head are JW arguments.

My parents pushed me into marriage at age 18, and it was a huge mistake. I didn't love him, and he was only interested in sex.
I was unhappy, and I let him know - respectfully and calmly - I wanted to talk it out and come to an understanding.
He essentially treated me like an appliance. When you want toast your toaster becomes very important, but the rest of the time it is ignored on the counter.
I detailed what I wanted, and he said he agreed that I was right and he promised he would make an effort to be more loving and thoughtful.
We had this conversation approximately once every 3 months for the 27 years we were married. He never made even the slightest effort to accommodate me.
I finally told him that if he didn't show some progress I would leave him. Even that had no effect on him, so I left.
I have had so much more energy since I left him that I have to believe that remaining in that marriage was sucking the life out of me.
So yes, unhappiness is a valid reason for divorce. I should have left him in the first year.

Jeepers, I don't even remember that. Yippee! I'm getting deprogrammed.
I used to temporary pioneer when I was a teenager. It was 75 hours for the first month, but if you did it two or more months in a row the succeeding months were 100 hours. Seventy hours for regular pioneers seems wimpy to me.
