Oh, but don't forget, Bethelites belong to a religious order and have taken a vow of poverty.

How long did it take you to prepare for talks or parts in the KM school?
by OneDayillBeFree inseveral years ago, whenever i got a talk slip i would get really nervous but accept it and work on it almost immediately.
of course that was way back when i still believed it all.. now they gave me a #3 talk out of the blue about a month ago and i had forgotten all about it till the meeting night.
i really thought about not showing up at all but at the last minute, i decided to go.. so when i got there the meeting had already started and so i just stayed in the back looked at the info, found 2 scriptures and then without any notes i went up and gave the stupid talk!.

I always hated it that sisters had to write essentially a 5-minute play containing all the pertinent points and counsel points. If I had just been addressing the congregation it would have taken me a lot less time.

Are you DF'd? Share the weirdness, I'll start.....
by Pickler inso i started a reply on the topic of "what's your status?
" and it made me think about my df hearing (sorry i can't remember the exact term for what happened).. so i was fading, living in a different country, working & making rare appearances at my kingdom hall.
i was flat sharing with a sister though.

Holy cats! It just shows the conditioning JWs go through that you would even answer intimate questions like that. Especially after you confessed to them!
And you know they're picturing the whole thing.
I was hauled before JC one time, but it was because I had confronted my father (former elder in the cong for 14 years) about years of verbal abuse I suffered at his hands. He was furious with me and filled the elders' heads with all sorts of lies about me, so when I got there they refused to believe a word I said, even though I had a second witness there with me (my husband). I didn't get canned, but my father warned me later that if I mentioned it again he'd have my friends DF'd.
What a spiritual paradise!

The fact that we're all here talking about it shows that the effects linger. You would not be the person you are today without your Watchtower experiences.
As for me, I left my mother and brother behind. My heart aches every day because of that.

I'm sure they have some savvy accountants on their team to advise them, just like they have a legal team.

i dont think most jehovahs witnesses realize how easy they have it when it comes to gift giving.

My father loved to give gifts. Of course, he also had a shopping addiction that kept him in credit card hell. Before we joined the cult he would go all out at Christmas and lavish my brother and me with a truckload of stuff (some of which left me wondering why he thought I'd want this). After we joined the cult when I was 12 he went apesh*t crazy over 1975 and quit his job to go pioneering, so we were broke and lucky to be able to buy socks.
Later, after my brother and I were grown and gone, he'd sometimes go overboard and lavish us with unnecessary presents to the point that my brother and I had to take him aside and beg him not to do it.
My husband, on the other hand, had grown up as a JW in an abusive family where presents were given the day after a vicious beating. He always thought of gifts as insincere guilt offerings. The whole process was tainted for him. He could barely muster a "thank you" when I gave him a gift.
I love to give gifts "just because" but rarely have the disposable income to do it.

Top Ten most SHOPLIFTED items?
by Terry ini realize that such stolen items would have to be in some way portable and this eliminates most large items from the list.
still, i was surprised!.
does anybody have any thoughts as to whether this list is indicative of any special need trends among humanity today?.

In my local grocery store the infant formula aisle is equipped with a camera and an alarm bell that goes off if you enter the aisle. Of course, the bread is in the same aisle, so that alarm gets tripped frequently.
In another store the cold/heartburn/allergy meds (the ones that don't contain pseudoephedrine) are behind a special barrier that makes it impossible to grab more than one at a time.
Diabetic test strips are freakin' expensive! I asked the price for a box of strips, and it was $120! They keep them locked up. It's interesting that you can get the meter for free, but they screw you on the test strips.
