Bethel Speaker- get rid of Facebook!
by Kensho inspecial assembly day (sad) bethel speaker ( a very good speaker i might add) in his talk " follow your spirit-directed conscience gave example of and elder and his family.
he noticed his wife and daughter spending a lot of time morning noon and night on facebook, it almost seemed like that is all they did, so as a spiritual head decided to see what they were constantly looking at, "let me see what you are spending so much time looking at on facebook said the elder".
the wife explained this is how we keep in contact with the "friends", elder started to look at her page and she was correct, there he found friends in the cong.

New Reasoning Book?
by Julia Orwell inbeen thinking for some years now the reasoning book is hopelessly outdated, what with all the changes they keep making and that.
do you think one will come out this year or next?
maybe this year, to really hammer the new fds thing?.

Maybe it'll be a guide to doubletalk, obfuscation, and outright deceit.

They'll prolly come out with something new. Remember the old "Make Sure" book? They didn't revise that, they replaced it with the "Reasoning" book.

are we crazier than we used to be?
by Xanthippe inthere seem to be so many tv programmes about horders whose houses are filled with rubbish that they can't throw out, peope with claustrophobia or other phobias, people with depression or anxiety illness.
i am not being accusatory because i've had depression but i'm just wondering what on earth is society doing to us?.
has there always been this level of mental health problems and they are just being given a label now and help is finally being offered?

I doubt that there's actually more mental illness now than in times past. If you read novels written in the 18th and 19th centuries you find characters who were obviously mentally ill but were classified as "eccentric." Mentally ill people in the past were either tucked away in insane asylums or relegated to the attic in the family home. Nowadays, a lot of people who would have been institutionalized in the past are able to lead normal lives with the help of medication.

Quote from this week's WT study
by dissonance_resolved in"god's servants on earth will not need to defend themselves against aliens from another planet.".
good to know- but strangely no scriptural reference for this gem..

Although it had been announced that the radio program was a play, many listeners thought that the attack was real and became frightened. Some even took certain measures in an attempt to protect themselves from imaginary aliens.
2 Today there is a real war looming on the horizon. However, people are failing to respond to its approach. This war is foretold, not in a science fiction novel, but in God’s inspired Word, the Bible. It is the war of Armageddon—God’s war against this wicked system of things. (Rev. 16:14-16) In this war, God’s servants on earth will not need to defend themselves against aliens from another planet. Still, they will be awestruck by astonishing events and by the fear-inspiring display of God’s power.
Okey dokey - no aliens. However, go a few paragraphs down and what do we find? A prophecy from the ever-reliable Holy Bible:
15 On the day of God’s warring, what will be the situation of those outside the “great valley” of protection? They will have “no precious light” of divine favor shining upon them. In that coming day of fight, “the horse, the mule, the camel, and the male ass, and every sort of domestic animal” —symbols of the nations’ military equipment— will be affected. Such equipment will be “congealed,” put out of operation as if stiffened by cold. Jehovah will also use pestilence and “the scourge.” Whether literal or not, the scourge will silence terrifying threats. On that day, “one’s very eyes . . . and tongue will rot away” in that the attackers will be able to strike out only blindly and their defiant speech will be silenced. ( Zech. 14:6, 7, 12, 15 ) No section of the earth will escape destruction. The forces lined up on Satan’s side in the battle will be tremendous. ( Rev. 19:19-21 ) “Those slain by Jehovah will certainly come to be in that day from one end of the earth clear to the other end.” — Jer. 25:32, 33 .
Oh. Thank God. No aliens.

My cause is to personally recover and help my JW loved ones to think for themselves. It is not to bring down the Watchtower, even if I would love to see that happen.
My purpose at JWN is to share discussions with people that know where I am coming from and they know where I am coming from.
Many, but not all share my cause and purpose for their own lives. But really, we are a bunch of unherded cats.
I agree with OTWO. While I'd love to see the WTBTS crumble into dust, my main goal in participating in online forums and writing my blog is to support those who are "waking up" to TTATT.

Having children is bad
by dissonance_resolved inwent to the weeknight meeting this week for the first time in a long while.
the study was all about how having children was ill-advised in this time of the end- the comments dwelled on what a burden children are, how you can spend more time in the ministry without children, and look what they did in jerusalem- they cannabilized their own children!
it's going to be so horrible to watch our children suffer during the great tribulation!

They've been saying that same stuff for 40 years. Jesus loved kids. He never said anything negative about being a parent. It was Paul who was the sourpuss.

Here's To Fanatics And Raising The Bar
by exwhyzee ina fanatic is a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal for something.
they take an activity, interest or belief and go beyond what would be considered normal or necessary by the majority of people.. .
having grown up as a jw and now having been away from it a few years, i better see how accustomed i had become to being involved with an organization run by fanatics of the religious variety.

exwhyzee - You're right! Always implied, never spoken. It's in the back of every JW's mind.

This weeks WT study
by turtleturtle indo you appreciate our spiritual heritage?.
para.
16. if a person clings to false doctrines, such as the trinity and the immortality of the soul, he cannot benefit from the ransom.

I would say that my "heritage" is composed of incontrovertible facts about my ancestors and well-documented historical events.
The JW "heritage" seems fluid and easily changed. There used to be a great deal of emphasis placed on CT Russell, in particular, as the one who "found the truth," or "was led to the truth by holy spirit." Yet, now, very little remains of his legacy (teachings), and he's been cut out of the family photos.
