Service meeting topic: Masturbation
by perfect1 inone of my strangest memories of going to the kh was when a young- maybe 18-20, pimply young man got up to talk about jhvhs view of masturbation during a service meeting.. of course, it was impossible to think about him not masturbating.
i was just hitting puberty and found the whole thing very uncomfortable- i think my dad was even critiquing him (what is that called when elder gives the feedback).
looking back now i can see that to publicly condemn masturbation, especially when a young man is delivering this admonition, is- well- hilarious.

A sure sign the End is Near....
by King Solomon inthe end of the month, that is, and someone apparently needs to get their hours in.... this resourceful jw (in the left side of the photo) set up shop for a few hours outside a local starbucks, with a wt and awake laid out on a table.
and i i don't think he talked to anyone the whole time he was out there (a few hours).. sure beats all that walking from door-to-door, which would likely result in a bunch of not-at-homes on a weekday: most people are at work.. (i approached him when entering, and asked him about the parable of faithful and "discreet" slave, and asked him what he thought the difference was between a parable and prophecy.
after getting a non-answer (that basically meant he didn't know), i wished him a good morning and went on my way.... .

"Suggested" Donation when attending Circuit Assembly
by BluesBrother ini could have called this "fee now charged to go to circuit assembly" but i do not want to start rumours that go beyond what was actually said.
the k hall announcement encouraged attendance at the upcoming assembly day.
the elder then said that since the congregation no longer has to make a blanket donation to the assembly hall it is expected that the publishers remember their responsibility to maintain the costs.

I've always wanted to take a dump in a circuit assembly contribution box . . .
144001 - LOL!!!
I'm one of those who was a JW in the '70s when the "free meetings" thing was really emphasized, so the ATMs in assembly halls and "suggested donation per publisher" thing are outrageous. How long before you have to pay at the door?
Knowing you have to donate a certain amount of money in order to attend might just force some JWs who are living from paycheck to paycheck (because they didn't get higher education and therefore have a crappy job) to decide between groceries for the week and attending the assembly. So then the attendance drops, so they have to charge more per publisher, and on it goes...
Maybe they wouldn't be experiencing such a money crunch if they hadn't spent so much restoring old hotels with luxurious appointments back in the '70s and '80s. Buncha weenies!

false prophets
by fakesmile inim just thinking out loud here, which isnt exactly my strong suit.
but how can an organisation send half cocked "ministers" who are uneducated/ ill prepared and often have the most atrocious family arrangements, to tell complete strangers how they should live their lives?
is it an inside joke?
-
cobaltcupcake
Can't answer the question, but I agree that it's true.
I knew one pioneer sister whose family life was a mess. When she went on RVs and bible studies she'd spend the entire visit updating the person on the latest drama in her family. No wonder none of them ever progressed to baptism.

The Decline of Elders and Ministerial Servants
by Londo111 ini seem to remember somebody saying that since the 90's the number of elders has declined from 90000 to 60000. does anybody have any hard figures regarding this?.
the organization is desperate for "qualified" men.
but their standards are much too high, especially the monthly field service hour requirements tagged on to endless meetings and congregational busywork.

My family became JWs in 1972. We used to hear many stories about small congregations in disant territories where sisters did all the MS work. In fact, I knew personally two elderly sisters who had been accounts servant and magazine servant back in the day. Sisters never served as elders, though.
I myself was the reader at the kingdom hall bookstudy for a few months until a qualified brother could be found. That was in 1978.
Hah! And here's a good one. My ex-husband (born in) was giving public talks on Sundays when he was 16 years old (1968). Afterward, when his family went to a house for hospitality, he'd go out and play with the kids. Now, there's a spiritual man!
It would be interesting to see them forced to go back to that low standard. This could be fun!

Has anybody heard of anointedjw.org? Thoughts?
by Indian Larry ini stumbled across this site.
was wondering what you all think about it?.

Jeepers! That site is a bit creepy. Reading a couple of their letters to the Society it sounds like they feel the anointed need special spiritual food and that they resent the fact that the Watchtower literature isn't written by anointed ones.
We are further informed that much of the writing of Watchtower publications is
done by those who do not profess Sonship with Jehovah. This is problematic since the
spirit of truth does not bear witness with their spirit (Romans 8:16), and further since
the only ones who are led by spirit are the Sons of God (Romans 8:14). Perhaps that is
why there is no “food” for the anointed ones and no education concerning the heavenly
hope.
The existence of that need is the impetus for developing our website. There we
provide much information on Sonship, based firmly and solidly on scripture. We enclose
a recent article we posted entitled “Who Are Led by Spirit?” which we feel will be
enlightening as well as encouraging. After reading the article, perhaps those taking the
lead in writing our publications will discover their own true heritage and begin writing
spirit-infused material.

Exposing a JW to the definition of cults - good idea?
by NeverKnew infirst, i am not a jw and never was.
i ran into an old friend who had been "baptized" who "encouraged" me to consider looking into the faith he had become a part of (born-in).
i figured, "hey... maybe i'll learn something i've never known.

From when I was a JW - I remember an observation someone once made about the "cult" accusation: The head of the Catholic church travels the world wearing a long dress and satin slippers, and they call us a cult?
The "C" word just bounces off of them.

Do You Still Have Dreams with JW Scenarios ? My recent Dream- Opinions...
by flipper in... appreciated !
as some of you know i've been logging my dreams since dec. of 2010 and am up to 184 pages worth now.
some of them have been disturbing dreams dealing with jw expereiences as i was a jw from birth until age 44 when i exited 9 years ago.

All the time - probably 5 out of 7 nights. I was in from age 12 to 45 and been out for 8 years.
My dreams are usually assembly/meeting/field service, and I'm horrified to find myself there and trying to find a way out.
Last night I dreamed about my brother, who is still in and very staunch. I was furious with him and threw a bottle of mustard at him. I'm guessing that anger is because off the shunning.
