new here, my story

i'm not sure why i felt a need to find this site and write my story about my experiences with the jw religion.

it's been pretty far in my past, but it still had an impact, and maybe i'm just being a bit reflective, having past 40 years of age and expecting my 2nd child next year.

maybe also being reflective having just attended a catholic babtism for my wife's cousin's daughter and seeing organized religion in action again.. my mom became a jw long before i was born - she's in her 80's now.

Lies Continue On New JW.org Sited . How Many Can You Spot?

do you shun former members of your religion?.

those who were baptized as jehovah's witnesses but no longer preach to others, perhaps even drifting away from association with fellow believers, are not shunned.

When I started missing a lot of meetings sometimes people would stop by just to say, "Oh we missed you!" - you know, dripping with saccharine.

Then my father, an elder in my congregation for over 14 years who had moved away one year earlier, died. I got no visits and only one phone call - from the elder who was going to give the memorial talk asking for some family names, etc. to include in the talk.

It made me sick. I can remember going to memorials for people I didn't even know, just to support a family member who was a JW and give a witness to the attendees.

I wonder what my "worldly" relatives thought about the low attendance at the memorial?

this weekend was the convention for the southern san francisco bay area.

it was held at the santa clara convention center in the silicon valley http://www.santaclara.org/conventioncenter/ which is an improvement over the old s.f.

cow palace which is still used..just not as much.

Knocking on doors on weekday mornings is effective... how?

so my boyfriend sometimes goes out on service on weekday mornings.

(he usually works evenings.

) he said that in three hours out there one day last week, not one person answered the door and the only person he saw was a door to door salesman.

Have they ever done anything that's truly effective?

Sandwich signs, sound cars, phonographs, the Photo-Drama of Creation? More annoying than anything except in excitement-starved backwaters.

when you see that word, "jehovah", does it make you think of god?.

do you ever use that name- jehovah- in your life at this point?

I didn't like it when my family joined the cult back in 1972 and somewhere in a public talk it was pointed out that Satan doesn't like that name either, and neither would his followers. I worked hard on liking it after that.

Now, I don't want that name rolling off my tongue. To me "Jehovah" is a vengeful God who petulantly kills off people who piss him off and then claims he's a god of love.

When my family joined the cult we were using the pink songbook and rotated between 3 sisters who played the piano. One of them did pretty well. One of them would pound the keys enthusiastically. The third one played everything like it was a dirge.

Remember "The Resurrection Joy?" That was the one that started off, "Lazarus lay sleeping in a cold stone grave..." Seriously, it was enough to make you want to string up a noose from the ceiling lights and end it all right there.
