Can an inactive one be DFed?
by Eustace inon another thread somebody wrote:.
i was df'd about a month ago and when it happened, i cried.
i'm not sure why, i certainly don't believe one crumb of what they teach anymore, and i had been inactive for two years.. .

You can rip the Band-Aid off quickly or slowly, but it'll still hurt.

So the Governing Body alone is now the Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by garyneal ini'm just catching up on the latest buzz here and it appears that there is a lot of buzz on the 'new light' coming from the watchtower concerning the governing body and the faithful and discreet slave.
if true, i can really use this to trick my wife and in-laws (who are coming in this weekend) to contradict the new light.. at first i was going to say that this can answer moshe's question regarding who really is the fds but i understand that the change simply means when the body meets on doctrinal matters is when they are collectively the fds.
is that correct?.

The "headquarters" statement they made seems really odd. . . Sounds like something out of 'Get Smart'!
Wasn't the Get Smart HQ called "Control?" Seems apropo.

How will the present-day "anointed" react to their demotion?
by Room 215 ini wonder how they will respond to their demotion to parity with the "other sheep" as mere "domestics" in god's house.
and what about the appontment of a 47 yeard-old to the governing boday?
in my neck of the woods, the word of any forty-something who began partaking would fuel the gossip mill for weeks!

New Governing Body Member: Hugo Riemer - More WT Revisionist History
by 00DAD inas part of the wt's recent push to get the r&f "to study and recount the history of the earthly part of jehovahs organization" there is a curious article in the from our archives featurette of the august 15th, 2012 watchtower.
it offers a highly sanitized version of early jw history.
but what is particularly strange is this revisionist history re-categorizing of an early bible student/jw, one hugo riemer.

My Wife's Theory
by breakfast of champions indiscussing the recent boe letter regarding child molestation this morning with my wife (she actually brought it up) , and she commented on how absurd it was - it just did not make sense!
but there was one way that it could make sense.
she said "what if someone at the top on the governing body was a child molester and wanted to cover everything up?

That's what I've thought for awhile.
My old high school government teacher brought up an interesting point - Legislators will attach lighter penalties to crimes they are likely to commit.
(The example he used back in 1976 was drunk driving which was punished by pretty much a slap on the wrist at the time.)
It's logical that the GB would figure out a way to avoid public humiliation (arrest) for a crime that they're likely to commit.

Please critique this statement from the GB
by punkofnice inon another thread (in a galaxy far far away), i saw that one of the paedophile protecting gb members from the brooklyn hate factory made a statement like:.
''it's still the truth(tm), we just have a different understanding of it!''.
please feel free to ridicule, analyse, critique the above propagandist spin..

Standard of Living in the New System
by cobaltcupcake ini used to wonder about this when i was still a dub: since they believe the industrialized world is going to be destroyed and the entire earth will be one big garden, exactly what kind of standard of living do they think they will have?
while they might be able to scavenge, say, a microwave oven or washing machine; and they might be able to figure out how to generate electricity, eventually all of these things will wear out and they'll be back in an early 18th century type of life.
people of that time and earlier who enjoyed a high standard of living employed armies of servants to do the dirty work, but since equality will reign in the ns, everyone will have to toil like a slave just to maintain the basics.. or do they think that big j will magically power their washing machines and water pumps and all the stuff that makes modern living so comfortable?.

I never got very far along this train of thought before my brain imploded and I had to chalk it up to, "Jehovah will provide." Yeah, but remember what he provided for the Israelites - manna. Before long they were wishing for onions.
I'd be wishing for a cheeseburger and fries, a TV, and a copy of my favorite movie. Oh, and toilet paper.

Leaves it wide open to change whatever else they want to.
Watchtower 2015: "So in conclusion, only members of the Governing Body are allowed multiple wives, you must tithe 25% of your income to support Kingdom Interests, and 'Kingdom Interests' includes the upkeep of the Watchtower Castle, Watchtower Yacht, and Watchtower Island (which are open only to GB members)."
