I'm glad I got out before they started in with the glue-bound books and paper covers.
My Revelation-Climax book lasted through all three time we studied it at the book study.

my wife was told a brother was going to be disfellowshiped, "how do you know this is going to happen?
" sister so-so said "he was not repentant or humble to the brother's kindness.
" instead of engaging into a heated debate, she knew who the leak was, so-so's husband.
My elder ex-husband never ever told me what was going on in any of the meetings with the other elders. And I never heard one other elder's wife say anything. Some may have known but they never said a word.
Ditto.
In his own inimitably harsh way my elder father had already trained me not to be curious about his desk, book bag, phone calls, etc. If we happened to answer the phone we were not allowed to ask who it was, or if the person told us, we couldn't announce it to the family in general.
here is a sample of the treasures on the anderson's web site!.

enjoy .......and have look for yourselves ...it is huge!.
Barbara's site is a real eye opener.
did you know people like this?
you get in their car and the kingdom melodies are playing on prerecorded piano... you go to their house and there they are in an orchestral arrangement... even when i was a complete believer i cringed when i had to hear this banal crap!
Guilty as charged.
Worse, I listened to the drama tapes over and over.
Worst of all, I had recorded talks that I listened to AND the recorded WT and Awake.
hi everyone, there is a rumor on a french speaking forum saying that the elders were to assist to a 9 h meeting, yesterday or today depending on availability, about pedophilia exclusively.
meeting directed by an circuit overseer.
more infos to come.
Gee, I wonder why the Society feels the need to present the info in person and not by letter??????
if you try to read that crap.. you'll ... purge the baloney sandwich you ate for lunch..lol.
My ex-husband and I moved about 20 times in 27 years, and the thing I always dreaded most was packing, lugging, and unpacking the bound volumes. It was a pleasure to leave all the literature behind when I left him.
i have been skimming the magazine this morning, and the whole issue seems designed to keep the flock at the kh.
yes, i know this is not exactly " new " information.
still with all the problems the organization is having, this one just seemed to strike me as odd.
We always used to speculate about the year text, thinking that the WTS knew something that we didn't. One year it was "Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah." That one got everyone all stirred up.
1. mark 7:15 "there is nothing from outside a man that passes into him that can defile him; but the things that issue forth out of a man are the things that defile a man.. so how can eating black pudding or having a blood transfusion be a sin?.
2. roman 14:5 one [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as others; let each one be convinced in his own mind.
so how come they say birthdays and festivals are a sin?.
You could add that whole passage about the guy who fed his concubine to a lecherous crowd then, after she dropped dead on the doorstep, he cut her up and sent the body parts to different parts of the country. That's messed up.
however- many jw's who have come into the jw organization from like 1985 forward virtually may have no knowledge of the wt society's 1975 debacle and false predictions of the end times or armageddon predictions.
just like in in the book 1984 by george orwell the wt society has a way of not only erasing it's history so no newer witnesses will be aware of their false predictions, but also they are re-writing their history as if those false predictions never happened.. so for those of you here who may have never read or heard of how whipped up into an emotional frenzy witnesses were in the years just before 1975 by the wt society claiming the end was any day now- this threads for you.
to see the pressure that was put on jw's by the wt society to get rid of everything before " armageddon " .
Reading the experiences of you who lived through the thick of the 1975 fiasco, it's a wonder anyone stayed in the TRUTH afterwards. I was only 8 years old in 75.
The WTS had some really good spin doctors at that time. There was a whole lot of talk about not "serving for a date" and about us not knowing Jehovah's timetable, and "he who has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." Oh, and about now that 6000 years of human existence has passed the end has to be extremely close.
It was also considered nearly apostate to talk about expectations for 1975 or about being disappointed. Most everyone simply swallowed their disappointment and kept trudging on.
Flipper - You and I are the same age. I was 15 in 1974 too and remember well the hype. My father started studying in 1971, and by the end of 1972 he was in full '75 frenzy. He moved us to a new home that was closer to the KH, he sold a piece of property (that would be extremely valuable now), quit his well-paying job and started cleaning offices, put the entire family on an "austerity program," and went pioneering. Oh, and he sold our big Chevy Impala and bought a VW Beetle to save money on gas (the oil crisis of the time having spiked gas prices up to an unimaginable 39 cents a gallon).
And he pushed my brother and me to get baptized because he felt we were of the "age of reason" and therefore responsible for our own salvation. And when I say "pushed" I mean using an electric cattle prod.
in my old congro i think there might be 1 elder who was pre 75 no m.s's .. c.o's only 1 i know of.. .
karter.. .
My father was an elder back then. He stayed in the org until he died in 2001. My ex-husband was an MS and his father was an elder back then. Ex is still in and his father stayed in until his death a year ago.
There was so much propaganda about not "serving for a date" and staying faithful and blah, blah, blah, that if you left right after '75 it was generally concluded that you were never really and truly serving Jehovah in the first place.
The subject of being disappointed was never discussed openly. If you did happen to express even a particle of dismay or sadness about the Big A not having happened you would be regarded as virtually apostate. In fact, the best thing was to focus on how the end had to be right around the corner since '75 had passed.
They were better at damage control back then.
