Why shouldn't there be a truce? Neither group has all the answers, but share many of the same problems. None can claim a monopoly on truth. Team up I say. Believers say you should do good to all because Christ say to. Atheists say you should practice good because it is the right thing to do. If believers are right and there is an after life then Atheists will get a pleasant suprise when they die. If Atheists are correct and we are all dead for good once we kick the bucket, well.. we won't know anyway cause we will be dead! That sure ends arguments! So what is all the fuss about? It really come down to whether or not you are a self-righteous, selfish a-hole or a respectful person who love his fellow man. I like this site because I feel the latter type is the rule rather than the exception.

Wolfman, nice.. " Would not surprise me in the near future new light arose that the 144,000 are a literal number, but of members of the governing body. That way they prepare the ground for the WT to continue dominating the JW's for centuries. " Only the GB are the 144,000/FDS. We have a long way to go before we reach 144,000! That would be one they would sit on for a while. After all they did admit that if they cannot agree on new light the " shelf " the idea. They may blow the dust of of that one in another century.
Londo, So what did your dad say? Also, I like this point " Oh, and if everyone is either Governing Body or a Domestic, it elevates the Governing Body from those "anointed" who might try to usurp them. " So the FDS appeared after 1919..hmmm...so did the Evil Slave!!! Who is the Evil Slave? Anyone the GB says it is!

Faith... and Trust: The Same Things?
by AGuest inin a discussion with some other dear ones, the question was asked as to what such ones put their faith in.
in response to one comment that"one can't function without faith," another disagreed, stating ones can, that "many do so every day... the ones who have trust" (in things like the sun rising in the east versus the west).
that trust extended to "faith" based "on nature and the natural order of things.

The Israelites did not have real faith in God. If they had then they would not have wanted a golden calf to worship. Jw's trust the organization and it's visible leaders. They do not have real faith in Yeshua whom they cannot see.

How to handle it when a JW gives you "counsel" about some stupid crap
by Terry inthere is a catch-22 that can trip you up at the local kingdom hall.. .
if you receive "counsel" from an elder about any behavior at all and you "resist" or question the counsel you can be accused of having a "spirit of rebellion".. .
so, you have to either shut up and comply (with even the most ludicrous and ill-founded suggestions) or answer back and be chastised and "marked".. .

Taking alcohol into the veins (WBT$ illo) - can someone deconstruct this for me?
by punkofnice inok. so i've heard that the wbt$ say that having alcohol into the body intraveniously (how do you spell it?
), when the doctor says you shouldn't have alcohol is baaaadddd!
so you wouldn't have a blood transfusion because invisible sky friend jar hoover says it's baaaaaddddddd.. no doubt the illustration is beyond crazy but how is the best way to deconstruct it?.

What they said. You would have to prove that blood is used as a food when injected. Even if that were true, it would still be stupid. Being respectful of blood or misusing it or spilling it by murder is what the Bible is contrasting. I guess you need to know what blood is. Is it considered a tissue or organ-like? It is hard to try to understand a dumb view just to prove how dumb it is....

Analysis of anti-607 BCE Rebuttals
by Ethos ini agreed yesterday to engage in the '607' topic.
i've read numerous threads and am well aware that this topic has been addressed and dissected quite thoroughly.
therefore, if you are uninterested in participating, that's fine.

Ummm... I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. I am the guy you want at your back in a fight, not the guy you want to do your taxes. That being said, I thought that 1914 was originally fixed as an absolute indisputable fact, " God's date " if you will, based on Pyramidology? Prior to that it was 1884 or something like that. There is whole string of people trying to figure out a date. They have all been wrong. However well meaning they may have been they were all told that " : "It does not belong to YOU to get knowledge of the times or seasons which the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction; ". ACTS 1:7
Those were Christ's words, not mine. The original false premiss seems to be that ignorant humans believe that they can know something that is beyond them. After that it is just an endless stream of trying to justify the fact that they ignored Christ. This would make Ethos' entire argument pointless from the start because he is trying to justify prior mistakes made by prior generations based on prior false premises. Also, please read The Gentile Times Reconsidered. Just reading the list of all the actual predictions made ( that failed ) is eye-opening in itself. Again, these people could have been well meaning. Really Ethos, I don't care that humans make mistakes. The issue is when you persecute others for not believing your particular theory. Imagine the absurdity of DF'ing someone because 5 years ago they felt and expressed publicly that they did not believ the FDS was appointed 1900 years ago. Would they recieve a pardon? My daughter understands that information exists in 3 forms.
1) Proven = True
2) False = Lie or falsehood
3) Unknown = yet to shown as either true or false
Who has the authority to persucute another when the information belongs in either category 2 or 3? Yet that is what happens to any who disagree with current understanding. That is neither honest or just.

ManMade UFO Caught On Google Earth?
by metatron inhttp://www.veteranstoday.com/2012/11/08/228582/.
there have been rumors about this craft for years, as well as strange sightings.. in addition, over the past week, a tv show that was shelved for 2 years was quietly put on air at 3am.
it claimed to interview a government employee who had detailed pictures of mars - far better than what nasa shows the public- together with testimony that the us has been to mars, using craft put together from technology gained from ufo crashes.

Satanus,
This is really cool: Experimentally an animal immersed in water can stand acceleration forces more than ten times greater than in air, the probability of survival being very high even at 1,000 G. A limit to the resistance to acceleration forces is given by parts of the body having a specific weight different from that of the rest of the body, particularly
the lungs for their air content, and the otoliths, Rat foetuses, having no air in their L. lungs, can survive impacts corresponding to accelerations higher than 10,000 G when the mother is floating in water.Maybe being is a craft surounded by liquid and breathing liquid 02 isn't that far off. This is from the 40's?! That amazes me. Just think what you can do when you have the man-power and a tax-payer funded budget.

OOOOHHHH!?? Me likey! It is a strange concept to think about. What about being less affected by time the faster you are moving? That's a weird one but we accepted it.
EE, I will post some more about Telsa when I can. He was a genius. He surpasssed Edison by far in my opinion. Edison was intelligent and a ruthless business man. He opposed Tesla's free energy plan at every turn. Had Tesla had a smart business savy partner things may have been different. He was just too naive. Also the elctro-propulsive field that ecompasses the ship simply negates all outside influences. You are in a protective field outside of normal space-time. That is why you feel no effects when turning. As far as making your own path, you would be riding on an endless crest of a wave you create. Just like ICE-MAN, he makes his own path to ride on. Who cleans all that up by the way? Wouldn't ice be falling on peoples heads?

Would you give someone 5 years of life instead of everlasting life? You would need to be speaking with someone who can reason on this first of all.
A JW would start from the false premise that a 2-5 minute magazine presentation could lead to everlasting life. Based on that they will say the prospect ( notice there is no promise ) of everlasting life is more important. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for life. While that is true, there is nothing wrong with feeding that man AND teaching him to fish. Would Yeshua give a tract to a homeless man when he had the circumstances to help in the present also? Jw's would help the poor if the leadership would allow and encourage it. They are so hung up on the " powerful works " of cranking out literature that they essential say " keep warm and well fed ". A GB member would have passed by the " man who fell among robbers " in the good Samaritan account, turned around and put a " All suffering to end soon " tract in his hand for him to read when he woke up. Or just sat across the road with their new rolly-cart literature set up.

Do we have the right to criticize Jehovah's anointed ones?
by Christ Alone injehovah's witness.
no one must ever compromise any of the essential, life-saving truths from god, but to truly be part of the "one body" required of christians, everyone must compromise some personal beliefs, preferences, interpretations, etc.. the jewish christians in rome were commanded to give up the mosaic law.
this was a task that was most difficult for them.

Moses made mistakes, but he was meek. So it's apples to oranges. The GB have the entire bible to help them see the error of their ways. Moses had it rough leading millions of people around the wilderness. The GB live a soft life of A/C, nice cars and nice suits and all the food they can eat. Had Korah been sincere and approached Moses and said I don't understand why this happens and that happens, I don't think Moses would have DF'd him. Plus Moses never deliberately misled anyone and he did not want to be in charge! He even asked not to be! Would the GB ever admit their mistakes or hand the reigns over to someone else if given the chance? Also, pointing out hypocrisy is not rebelling against God. That is a false charge made up by the hypocrites who wish full control over the flock.
