The model is barely sustainable. I would argue that being tax free is the only reason the Org has survived so far. I can’t see them lasting another 100 years. Not unless they start offering real value, even if that is a JW ran University that helps Dubs earn a decent living. Sure, teach Genesis in Science class, but then offer useful classes, or a trade school, something...

years ago when i was a jw, one of their cornerstone teachings was that they were nothing like babylon the great.
i remember being taught that the witnesses not using any type of clergy class distinction was proof that they had the right religion.. well, recently we had this article in the local paper, and an elder who was no doubt the presiding overseer tried to use the clergy class excuse to get out of answering questions regarding a child abuse case.

just looking at the pictures in tomorrow's wt study makes me think of the nightmares i used to have as a child.
and nowadays the pictures are sometimes more realistic, so for any who are truly mentally in, this has a terrible effect on them and even their life choices.

excellent observation from zizek about communist regimes: they didn’t care if people accepted the ideology or took it seriously, so long as people acted as if the ideology was true, that was the important thing.
in fact the regimes were deeply suspicious people who took the ideology too seriously.
people who took the ideology seriously were dangerous because they were prone to noticing the inconsistencies and flaws in the system.
If the GB know that the religion can’t undergo scrutiny and survive, that means they must have a sense of the wrongness of the religion.
That means they don’t take it seriously on the apologist end of the spectrum. They aren’t true believers. If they were, then they would never suspect that there were any flaws at all and therefore would never think to warn anyone away from deep study.
