designs - Do you think Paul, with his colossal ego, felt he was writing inspired words at the time.
I don't think so, IMHO. Of the 7 letters which can be confidently attributed to Paul, I find it difficult to believe that he felt that way. The history behind the transmission of the bible helps eliminate the idea. I really think he was just writing letters of encouragement and instruction as a fellow member of the faith.

My point is that, if the term was used before Paul "invented" it, it would be very helpful to look at how it was used, and its intended meaning and context. That way one could better undestand what Paul had in mind when he used "theopneustos".
I found this in the commentary by Barnes, not sure if it was touched on but here's what I was able to find.
"The expression was used among the Greeks, and a similar one was employed by the Romans. Plutarch ed. R. 9:p. 583. 9. τοὺς ὀνείρους τοὺς θεοπνεύστους tous oneirous tous theopneustous. Phocylid. 121. τῆς δὲ θεοπνεύστου σοφίης λόγος ἐστὶν ἄριστος tēs de theopnoustou sophiēs logos estin aristos.
Perhaps, however, this is not an expression of Phocylides, but of the pseudo Phocylides. So it is understood by Bloomfield. Cicero, pro Arch. 8. "poetam - quasi divino quodam spiritu inflari." The word does not occur in the Septuagint, but is found in Josephus, Contra Apion, i. 7. "The Scripture of the prophets who were taught according to the inspiration of God - κατὰ τὴν ἐπίπνοιαν τὴν ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ kata tēn epipnoian tēn apo tou Theou. " - source

Excellent study Doug!
I'm on page 8 so far and im really liking it. I was actually planning on doing a study of 2 Timothy 3:16 myself after reading what 'Barnes Notes on the Bible' had to say about the scripture:
"All Scripture - This properly refers to the Old Testament, and should not be applied to any part of the New Testament, unless it can be shown that that part was then written, and was included under the general name of "the Scriptures;" compare 2 Peter 3:15-16. But it includes the whole of the Old Testament, and is the solemn testimony of Paul that it was all inspired. If now it can be proved that Paul himself was an inspired man, this settles the question as to the inspiration of the Old Testament."
I remember being floored at this but it all made sense. It's such an intriguing subject which holds so much power over the minds of Christian fundamentalists. Thank you for saving me a lot of time.

Jan 2014 WT study - more vomit
by EndofMysteries inarticles such at "100 years of kingdom rule" in which jehovah has 'in a sense' begun ruling as king, and jesus in a sense was made king.
even though the kingdom hasn't actually come.
it's not clear if the 1,000 year reign has began or not, if so only 900 years left of jesus rule?

So my question is:
Why didn't Jesus choose the Associated Bible Students (the group from which the Watch Tower Society broke away)--
after all, they were not contaminated with the false prophecies and nonsensical teachings found in The Finished Mystery,
nor had they erroneously proclaimed that Millions Now Living Will Never Die! (which Rutherford had proclaimed in 1918).
Also, why didn't he choose the Mormons? They have almost the same core teachings. Where in the bible does "food at the proper time" fall under these doctrines or standards? Haha, they think they're slick but it only raises more questions.

Anti-Semitism & Wealth of Jewish Individuals
by objectivetruth inin a recent email conversation that i had with a jw friend, he brought up,the holocaust, as proof that jws were the true religion.
he said something to the effect of... "hitler targeted, jws because they serve jehovah.. hitler wanted them to renounce their faith as witnesses, if the witnesses didn't have the truth why would satan have hitler target them so brutally".
i responded "hitler put 6 million jews to death, and a few thousand witness's to death, what does this mean?".

This would be a good counter argument for when witnessess claim to be a special people with regards to "blessings" or "persecution." IMHO, the LGBT (gay) community are by far the most persecuted group of people in human history. Jews are definitely up there in my book. Most of the perscution Jehovah's Witnesses have experienced throughout history was the result of radically aggressive propaganda. The Watchtower has a history of putting JWs in a bad position by making them preach a message that was/is vitrolic and spiritually violent in nature. Now, JWs are to be admired for their refusal to participate in radical regimes, nationalism and military service. All humans should have that right, however, much of their suffering could've been avoided had they simply read the bible for themselves, rather than allowing others to think for them.
