Thanks for that OTWO, I am trying to get my wife to see TTATT, she is a good person, just blinded as we once all were. Sometimes I feel like its hopeless but I know questions are the best way to help most. Telling facts doesent seem to work, I can attest to this personally. Hopefully soon I will see the results of using good questions to help her think.

There is NO Polite Way to Say it to a JW
by OnTheWayOut inthere are so many recent joiners to this forum and many have the same questions about helping their loved one leave jehovah's witnesses.. we can try to cushion our statements.
we can approach the subject with thinking questions that seem to be disconnected to jw issues, but really are not disconnected.
we can state so-called "apostate" positions from a "doubter" view instead of one that is convinced of the lies.. we can learn all there is to learn about cognitive dissonance and dangerous mind-control cults.. we can read all kinds of things about jw history and doctrine and secret practises of the organization.. we can and should do what we can from the above to help someone we care about to free themself from the jehovah's witnesses.. but many of you newbies (and still a bunch of us oldbies here) want to know how to politely say .

Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!
by The Searcher inwe had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.
he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".
i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

FWFRANZ, Great observation. Being indoctrinated since birth, sometimes my mind starts going crazy. Their quotes are written in such a way that they screw with your resolve. I guess that is what it's like to be in a bad relationship with someone who knows how to manipulate your feelings. When I read the quotes that Blondie posted ( Thanks Blondie!! ) I start to doubt. I have found that I have to read at JWFACTS and Watchtowerquotes, and others, just to keep thinking correctly! The pressure to conform and to not reason is strong.
Your observation about the GB's view not being based in scripture is really all that matters.
Exactly Data Dog! I feel the exact same way! When I go to the kh or assembly my mind is so busy thinking of scriptures to refute what they say or reasons why they are using false reasoning etc..
I hope they say more and more extreme things, they cant even really twist the scriptures to cover what this DO is saying. Moving so far from the scriptures. More and more people with brains switched to the on position will be waking up with statements like that. Every prayer I hear at the hall now is thank you for the slave this, the GB that, Jesus with a rare token mention, In Jesus name Amen, thats the most Jesus is mentioned at most meetings. Or he is mentioned just to say "Jesus said he would appoint a slave"

Anyone still "in" that is feeling physically sick??
by lostinnj83 ini really think that staying "in" just for family and friends is doing a number on my health.
i am currently in therapy for the mental part of all of this but i am phsyically sick every time i have to get ready to go to the meeting or service.

Sometimes if there is a particularly puke worthy meeting, which there seem to be more and more of, I have to physically remove myself at times, to the bathroom, parking lot in summer. I spend assembly taking notes of the fallacys they are using, or anything too over the top, missaplyied scriptures etc.
But yes I get headaches, sometimes chest pains, usually when I hear comments from the R+F that are just false. I hate to see the complete brainwashing in some or most.

The witnesses are not christians as they believe the new Testament was written for 144000 only, and do not accept what the Bible clearly states, there is one mediatior between God and men, a man Christ Jesus. They reject everything Christians have accepted for centuries as elementary, and reject the one hope the Bible ever held out for followers of Christ, a heavenly one.

The Borg "our mother"? Good Grief!
by Roberta804 ini have heard it all now, or at least up to now, the borg never ceases to surprise me.
so when jesus was talking to his deciple from the cross (opps stake), "this is your mother" or something like that, was he talking about the borg?
lol.

Actually the basis for this ludicrious reasoning is the scripture in proverbs 4:1 where it says to not forsake the law of your mother as a basis for this. Clearly, this was simple cousel on how to have good family life but they made the quantum leap to apply it to themselves. GB says they are the FDS, how do we know? Because the GB says so. GB says they are Mother? How do we know, because the DC said so which was written by the GB. The sad part is so many just gulp down the insanity.

Do Witnesses really want to go to the meetings?
by BU2B indo witnesses really want to go to the meetings?
or do they just go because they feel they must to get into the new world.
or is it just peer pressure or pressure of elders?

Do Witnesses really want to go to the meetings? Or do they just go because they feel they must to get into the new world. Or is it just peer pressure or pressure of elders? What is the real reason why the majority go?
In my experience it is very telling when the weather is so bad the meeting is canceled. Even among most "fully in" witnesses there seems to be a great sense of relief that they dont have to go.
When the weather is getting bad they seem to hope the meeting gets canceled. What does this say about their religion. If it was truly upbuilding they would want to go, they would wish it would not be canceled imo, anyways just what was on my mind, I welcome your thoughts.

Amazing the very same French Govt that aided radical islamist elements to oust Quadaffi, and are currently supporting Syrian rebels with ties to Al Qaida and AL Nusra fronts in Syria to oust Assad are simultaneously fighting similiar charachters in Mali.

Can Publishers buy "Scratch Off" tickets?
by skeeter1 insee title?
someone i know has gloated that he bought $15 of scratch off tickets, and won $35.
i thought one could not gamble, and it would include scratch off tickets..

Yet another unscriptural rule, yet again going "beyond what is written". Surely if gambling was so bad why didnt Jesus or Paul say something about it?
