Considered for Recommendation as Elder but Declined

hi folks.

one of the elders was sent to our house to talk to me the possibility of being recommended as elder.

he did not know however that one of the elders who is a friend of mine had already divulged this future meeting.

And the nerve of them to spring something so serious as being an elder on brothers at such short notice! This is a decision that should be prayerfully considered over days, discussed with family, etc.. Not something to spring on someone like that. Its not right.

i have been lurking for a long time here and i think i'm prepared to speak about this experience openly.. .

i was born in a jw family and i grew up as the average jehovah's witness does.

even being very young, i helped with the territories and other work in the congregation.

Funniest Talk or Weird Things That Happened In Your Hall.

there is always at least 2 or 3 really crazy persons in the kingdom hall.

the kind of person that when they raise their hand the speaker on stage knows he's taking a gamble if he calls on them - yet he can't discriminate.. anyhow, i remember one time a younger brother was doing sound and one of those crazy brothers was about to give his 5 minute talk (i forget what number that was, prior to them just reading scripture).

the crazy brother slipped the young brother doing sound a cd and said "play this when i get on stage".. well, he gets up on stage and all of a sudden hawaiian music starts playing... the man on stage just starts dancing.

We have had some pretty crazy talks at the CA about dress. One brother went on and on about cleavage and gave the dictionary definition. He said it is wrong for anyone to see the "space between a womans breast" you could see everyones discomfort. Another time the CO says that some sisters wear BOW WOW dresses. They may look modest from the front but when she BOWS all the brothers say WOW. Too wierd to hear this be said in front of 1000 people.

What takes the cake is at a WT a few years back where porneia was mentioned and it went into detail about what constituted porneia for an unmarried couple, listing oral, anal, masturbation, etc. The conductor wasnt the most educated and was a poor reader and writer. He asked as a supplementary question, "so what is this anal?" But he pronounced it annaaaaallll! You could hear a pin drop! No one raised their hand for what seemed like eternity, and guess who, my own MOTHER raised her hand! I cant remember what was said but she defined it. I and most others there were soooo embarassed. I dont know the reason for the question but it was just tooo weird!

Hmmmm... it seems to me Apostate=Conspiracy theorist. Both are thought stopping ad hominem name calling, designed to stop the listener from seriously considering what you have to say any further. Both are meaningless labels that detract from the specific issue being discussed.

Who still goes to meetings and out in field service?

just curious as to who on here still regularly attends meetings and goes out in service?

as i sit at the district convention i can't help but think who else out in the crowd is just like me.

doesn't believe what they hear, but are still here..

Also I am unable financially to leave. If we were to split due to the great rift this would cause, I would have to work 2+ jobs just to make it, leavfing what time for me to see my daughter? She would continue to be raised as a JW. At least as long as I am around I can inject some sanity into my family. I must wake them up, as she gets older I cannot be a hypocrite and teach her things I know are wrong. It seems that I am in a no win situation. No good way out. I plan to study the nulite with my wife for family worship soon, and plan to feel her out, how she feels about the changes, then using open ended questions to hopefully help her think. Its my next attempt to help her break free of the mind control, if just a little bit.

Nope.

PS- the British Monarch is not powerless as many think. The queen has the power to dissolve parliament and has done so twice in Canada in the past decade. The office is not merely ceremonial as it is in many Euro nations. That family is the biggest welfare recipients in the world, sucking off the taxpayers tit like leeches IMO
