  Is shunning effective?

  does shunning accomplish its objectives:.

  make the person repent?.

  deter others from committing similar offenses in the future?.

  It works as far as information control is concerned, but fails when it comes to their official reasons for it. 

  They say they have the arrangement to protect the congregation and to restore the sinner to Jehovah. 

  Shunning helps neither as it only encourages "sinners" to keep their actions hidden at all costs, and since shunning amounts to emotional blackmail, returning "sinners" likely will be returning, not out of a heartfelt desire to restore their relationship with Jehovah, but instead to reunite with family and friends.  This leaves the organization filled with insincere faking JWs.

  Also, some who see how nasty their former friends and family really can be and how little they care while they are DF can move them to find unconditional friends on the outside and leave the JW life forever.

  missing a lot of the oldies and goodies -- is this site so new, no one has signed on yet?

  i am confused... but then, i will have to wait and see what happens.. somehow - change is not the best option but we adjust..have most of the users gone to other locations?.

  An unconfirmed report of a JW Murder in Mozambique

  a couple from the uk, international construction volunteers, were living in a trailer whilst building a translation facility in mozambique.

  a gang attacked them with machetes and stole everything they owned.

  the couple were flown back to the branch in south africa.

  I cant vouch for the validity of this, but if true it is a terrible tragedy and one can only wonder.. Where was the most powerful force in the universe on that day?  Taking its lunch break?

  My "Un-Witnessing" Comments for this Upcoming Sunday's Watchtower.

  i won't be there (fortunately) but perhaps my warm encouragement and hard work, in preparing these comments will help someone, who has the burden of attending the meetings, give a good un-witness.. 3. while on earth, how did jesus follow his fathers example?.

  answer - jesus at john 9:4 gave us a very important reminder, he said "we must do the works of the one who sent me while it is day; the night is coming when no man can work.

  " the figurative night that jesus was likely referencing was amos 5:18 where it says "woe to those who yearn for the day of jehovah!

  I see the "un-witnessing" part of your comments, but unfortunately unless you are more direct it will go over most of their heads. They would congratulate you afterwards about how much research you must have done and how great the comments were.

  my mother's church was having a christmas breakfast this past weekend and needed a santa ... i volunteered.. these little ones thought i was the real deal and one is my child.

  when we returned home she went right up to my wife and said ... "mom, santa is real!".

  As messed up as the Family Court system is, even they can see the insanity of not allowing basic, common, healthy activities. We need a resource of quotes which demonize extracurricular activities so we can counter their lying pamphlet given to the JW parent and attorneys to give a false impression to the court. They try to make it clear how normal they are, when they are a filthy cult and a very unhealthy place for children.

  I guess I turned out ok, but I have social anxiety and am somewhat awkward in crowds and social occasions. I know this is due to my JW upbringing. So many have memories of going to camp, playing in a band, playing sports, having a good variety of friends, college, partying, dating, and just being a kid/teen/young adult. I have been robbed of that, and I can never get those years back. I got a job at 18, married at 19, kid at 21. I never lived. Im not saying I cant have a happy future, but they robbed me of what could have been prime formative years of my life. I resent that.

  Good for this court and Judge. I hope more rulings like it follow here in the states.

  Why JW marriage is a huge problem for the organization.

  the difficulty of finding a marriage mate is well known for sisters.

  but i would say it's hard for brothers also.

  When you get married as a JW it is not a true marriage of two people. They include Jehovah as part of a "divine threesome" as it were. The problem is that "Jehovah" really equals the GB! Since marriage mates are told during the wedding talk that they are supposed to love Jehovah *ahem* (GB) more than their own spouse and children, this explains why marriages often crumble when one party finds out TTATT.

  Like my wife, many buy into the idea that if you leave the TWOOF, this severs the agreed upon "threefold cord" and therefore the marriage is doomed to failure. I dont know how the rationalize how "worldly people" sometimes have happy marriages lasting decades when all they have apparently is a lousy two fold cord. Its just another facet of the deep tree root like system of mind control..
