Excellent post. Really nothing is worth going back to a golden calf for, even family, and we must all get out physically sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

My Bible Highlights Comment last night
by BU2B inlast night i gave a comment at the bible highlights, i never comment anymore unless i can say something that might plant a small seed in someones mind.. anyways the bible reading was mark 5-8. my comment was, "i appreciated mark 7:6-8 where it reads he said to them: isiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites for it is written, this people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far removed from me.
it is in vain they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines, commands of men.
letting go the command of god, you hold fast the traditions of men.

Aussie oz has a good point. There are so many nice Bible accounts they could make connect the dots of, but they choose these?? Sick minds at work. Either they are evil, or so out of touch its beyond belief. A third possibility is they know what they are doing, and they are doing it to show the newest crop of potential JWs what happens when you dont "Listenobeybebwessed" (TM)

Watchtower Birthday Logic
by enigma1863 inthe watchtower bases their opposition to birthdays by two scriptures, saying something bad happened and god must have put it in there for a reason.
following their logic are there any other things jws shouldnt do because bad things happened in a couple of scriptures?.

By this logic dogs should also not be allowed for JWs. They are mentioned not 2 but 40 times. Each time they are menitoned in a negative light. Therefore if birthdays are not allowed for a mere 2 negative mentions how much more so dogs.

2 Samuel contains the only instance where a siesta is mentioned in the Bible, and results in a beheading.
2 Samuel 4:5-7 "And the sons of Rim′mon the Be?er′oth?ite, Re′chab and Ba′a?nah, proceeded to go and come to the house of Ish-bo′sheth about when the day had heated up, as he was taking his noonday siesta. And here they came into the middle of the house as men fetching wheat, and then struck him in the abdomen; and Re′chab and Ba′a?nah his brother themselves escaped detection. When they went into the house, he was lying upon his couch in his inner bedroom, and then they struck him so that they put him to death, after which they removed his head and took his head and walked on the road to the Ar′a?bah all night long.
"Is it just coincidental" that the Bible has an account showing the danger of a noonday siesta, or would most people feel that to be reading too much into the passage?

I Need help with questions to ask during family study to help my wife wake up

however i really need to start asking her good questions that wont set off her apostadar.
so i ask you fine folks; what are some questions or ways i can use the family study to help her think and start using her own mind on key ideas.

conversations with jws seem to be more jw-ish than ever!
in normal conversation, i'll hear: "these watchtowers are just wonderful!

I think it is a combination of two things. First as others have stated, the more awake we are and the more we know about cult tactics we are, we become more and more hyper-aware of the brainwashing. We will see how the WT, a$$emblies and Conventions dispense the indoctrination, and we will be more sensitive to others when they make comments that reflect that the conditioning has been sucsessful.
Second, I do feel that they are ramping up the control. Fred Franz and his delusional mind and interpretations was crazy but now its ALL about FDS this, GB that. Organization here, Gods channel there. Witnesses are either starting to wake up, either slowly or real fast, or they are sinking deeper and deeper in im afraid. The more extreme they get, the more will leave on the one hand, but on the other hand, the die hards will become even more loyal to the 8 men.

Then I said, "we see here how we need to avoid the example of the pharisees and stick with the scriptures, we should never go beyond what is written, and we need to always avoid following the traditions of men, but instead stick to what is writtten in the scriptures."
That comment felt good, dont know if it made any impact and it may just be a small thing, but I felt good defending Christian Freedom even if just in a small way
