While the OP was referring to Europe vs US, I appreciate all comaprisons between JWs in one part of the US to another, Europe, latin america, Brazil, pretty much any differences. Thx for everyones responses so far too, very eye opening

i have heard about such things as beards being allowed, movies that a jw cant watch in the us or would be frowned upon watching being ok, same with tv shows, and even the way they dress in public.

I should go back and count, just over the past 10 years or so, how many times David is featured in a study article vs Jesus Christ. I dont have an official count but it seems like at least once a month david is featured and Jesus maybe once, twice a year? And even then its not really about him, just how he gave all power to the FDS. Blech

The irony is if you truly do look into the history of the organization as most here have and not the fluffy witewash version, even just using publications, you will see all of the changed teachings, illogcal things, and hypocrisy and well on your way to "apostasy" lol at my dad who told me very little has changed doctrinally from Russels time to now. He dosent know because he hasnt looked.

Even pastor Russell had the same rhetoric. He said that you would be better off just reading Studies in the Scriptures without the Bible than the Bible without Studies in the Scriptures. Even back then they used terms like "clearly" like clearly the end will come by 1914 when it wasnt clear at all and went on to be changed numerous times, or "doubtless".
How many times has the society used these terms only to change the teaching one or more times afterwards. Nothing was clear at all.
There are two choices with all these changed teachings.
1. Even though Russell, Rutherford, etc claimed to be guided by holy spirit to their understandings of superior authorities, 1914, 1925 etc, they were lying, or mistaken and were not spirit directed at all, or
2. The holy spirit intentionally mislead them and gave them false teachings.

The thing is he and his wife use the excuse that he is sick from irratable bowel syndrome. However he works 50+ hours a week. She said he needs to be told to get his butt back to the hall and how sad it is and how he needs a sheperding call. She said they offered and he declined due to health and a busy schedule. I said maybe he didnt want one! I said some people just stop going to the KH for many reasons and theres nothing anyone can do to force them back! I said maybe he isnt sick or depressed maybe he just dosent want to go! (really he is what i am aspiring to become and her reaction to this shows me its going to be a rough road)
This just drives home one of the signs of a cult THERE IS NO LEGITIMATE REASON A PERSON CAN LEAVE! ANYONE WHO LEAVES IS NOT SPIRITUAL, WEAK, OR WICKED. Everyone thinks this is a easy ticket to be worm/flower food after armageddon. God I hate this cult and what it does to people.
I am pulling my hair out because I have begun a slow fade myself, missing more meetings due to headache, hours down to 5 or less, trying to lose this MS status without setting off too many alarm bells and it is so frustrating to hear how much she complains about people that miss many meetings, Im thinking to myself ITS NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS anyways! Im getting to the point I would rather live under a bridge in Detroit than to live in a mansion and be aroud this cancerous cult!
I think its time for a cold beer or 5.
