LASIK surgery

i have a pre-op appointment for lasik eye surgery on thursday.

assuming everything checks out ok my surgery will be on the following tuesday.

woo hoo!!.

It will be 1 year ago (on Oct. 15) that I had my LASIK procedure done. As Little Toe said, it is quite liberating. With each passing year it was becoming more difficult to be fitted with a soft contact lens that would properly correct both my myopia and astigmatism. The annual cost of keeping me in corrective lenses had become financially painful with having to fund a years supply of toric lenses, bifocals (needed since age 36) and reading glasses (to use w/ the contact lenses). Traveling anywhere with all that junk was a nightmare. Now I just wake up and go!

The procedure itself I would describe as uncomfortable rather than painful. My eyes felt gritty for about 2 1/2 days and I only need to use artifical tears for about 3 months I still need the reading glasses if I'm going to be reading for longer than 15-20 minutes. LASIK is definately one of the top 5 best things I've ever done for myself.

College, Working and Kids: Is it Possible?

i need opinions from parents.

first, let me share my situation.

i am 24 years old and my husband is 33. we have been married two years and are thinking about having kids.

Well, I kinda meet some of your criteria so I guess I'll voice an opinion. I went back to school when I was in my late twenties. I had a husband and two children, both preschool age. The eldest child was ill, a cancer patient to be specific. I was doing freelance work for a book publisher at the time from home. Going back to school saved my sanity. It gave me very specific goals, which in the short term were only partially realized. Life was kind of chaotic for a few years (hubby was also in school part tiime to finish his BS) but we got through it. We both had to drop and retake a few classes along the way when things got tough with our son's illness. And we both took several months off when he died. But we both finished, it took me 3 1/2 years to complete a 2 year program. I have never regretted my decision to go back, or to continue when the going got rough.

I must admit I most likely would have not tried to become pregnant, or would have been upset to find myself "accidently" pregnant under those circumstances. But I'm kinda stubborn so I would have charged on, I'm sure.

Is there a "right" time to have a baby? Not really. So if you're waiting for the "right time" to have a baby, you'll never have a baby. There will always be something going on, some personal crisis, some goal, major world event etc. that will make the timing not "just right". Keep the dialogue open with your husband, you have some valid reasons for going ahead. You would like to have two children and you're 24; and unlike a man you don't have all the time in the world.

1. that ritalin is a class ii drug and is on the same as cocaine.

Strattera, introduced late last year is NOT a stimulant (like Ritalin and Adderall) and not a controlled substance. Mystery and Lyin Eyes--this may be worth looking into w/ your children's doctors.

My head wont stop hurting

You do indeed have a textbook case of TMJ. Having suffered with this disorder myself, I truly understand your pain and your frustration. I used to have headaches that lasted for days. I might wake up on Monday in pain and not have any relief until Thursday or Friday. I felt like banging my head against the wall.

The etiology of the TMJ headache is basically this: you grind or clench your teeth at night possible due to a structural defect of the temporomandibular joint. The constant clenching/grinding results in hyper stimulation of the facial/neck muscles and eventually radiates down. The hyper stimulation leads to muscle tension and more importantly inflammation. The inflammation results in pain. Very severe pain, as you well know. Ultimately this can lead to a depletion of your serotonin levels (resulting in insomnia) and can affect other hormones as well. Unfortunately, stress aggravates the condition.

My course of treatment started with the prescription anti-inflammatory Relafen and the drug Trazadone for my insomnia. Once my splint was ready and fitted I wore it for 24 hours a day (except mealtimes) for 6 months. After 6 months I was weaned off the medication and cut back of the "wear time" of the splint until I was wearing it just at night. Words cannot describe the difference in how I felt. I actually felt GOOD for the first time in a long time.

I now use a modified splint called an NTI and an over the counter anti-inflammatory to control flare-ups of my symptoms

I understand your reluctance to just take any medication your doctor offers, but I would encourage you to consider some type of medication to help get your symptoms under control.
