Why are we repulsed at the though to consuming human milk?
by Elsewhere ini saw a story this morning about a guy who is making cheese using his wife's breast milk.. i checked a poll and 80% of people think this is gross.
i must admit there is a part of me that is repulsed too.
my scientific "geek" and curious side is intrigued and would want to try it... but then the repulsion kicks in again.

Toyota Stuck Accelerator
by PEC ini just don't get it, why can't people shift into neutral, when this happens?
in the 1980's, i had a car accelerator stick a few times; before, i found out it was the floor mat, this was a very powerful car for it's day, about 240 hp.
i learned to pull the floor mat down every time i got in the car, no big deal.

Because people will panic. And if they have driven an automatice transmission all their life, they probably havent noticed the N for neutral, or if they have, it hasn't occurred to them that N, besides being a position between drive and reverse, might also take the car out of gear. People are not too bright and unless they have been shown what to do, most of them will not be able to figure out how to do it.

prayer before eating
by stillin ini mentioned to an elder/friend the other day that it occurred to me that there really doesan't seem to be any scriptural precedent or mandate for the tradition of praying before we eat.
i said that jesus blessed the loaves and fishes when he performed that miracle, and he blessed the wine and bread at the last supper, but i couldn't think of any other example of it.
i also suggested that the tradition of praying before eating was probably rooted in giving thanks to the various gods of nature and the perception og god as being involved in the outcome of the harvest, and that, by that way of looking at it, we probably shouldn't pray before eating....silence..

I think I've reached that point in life where I hate my job and will always hate my job
by Elsewhere inremember when you were a kid and you saw the funny bits in shows about how someone hates their job and just goes to work to pay the bills.
i think i've reached that point in my life.. i hate my job.. i used to love the work i do... but the way a corporation crushes your soul and leaves you as an empty husk of your former self has finally taken its toll on me.. i used to look forward to the challenges of work... now i wake up, go to work, do what i have to do to get through the day and then go home.. .
it's totally absurd but i find myself literally fantasizing about winning the lottery so i can get my soul back..

Take a long vacation. You might also want to drink more and get laid more often. A happy personal life will take the edge off a bad professional life.

I think we shoud do like my cats do, eat the food first and then say thanks. Afterall, you never know.....the food could disappear while you are giving thanks and wouldn't that be a bummer?
