Instructions To Elders Re: Pursuing Higher Education
by baldeagle inunderlining is mine.. march 6, 2012 letter.
pursue divine education:some of our brothers are pursuing higher education, feeling that they can acquire a measure of financial security.
as you are aware, the educational system varies from country to country.

I never was removed from a position, as I have never had one, but I was strongly encouraged not to pursue higher education because as always the end was so close. I was told I can't reason that what if it doesn't come in 5 or 10 years, that sort of thinking just wasn't what a true worshiper should do. Well lets just say I finished college more than 5 and more than 10 years ago. I really don't know what the rational thought would be if you could bring this sort of conversation up openly later. I am almost half way to retirement now, let alone years removed from college.

Who is the FDS class from midweek meeting....last night
by Legacy inlast night we had our midweek meeting.
the bible reading was from "who is doing jehovah's will....the part where they asked who was the fds.

The elder that had the part at mine repeatedly called it the slave "class" which is not longer valid. It was driving and ubber zealout at my hall crazy that he kept saying it.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?
by Stand for Pure Worship indid you decline out of fear?
decline because you hated doing demos?
accept the request graciously?

When I was younger I felt important. Now I do whatever I can to avoid them. Recently I was asked to do one purely for a comedy skit. That was right up my alley so I accepted.

I heard someone say that a person who had been df'd finally came back because their family stopped talking to them. They said that's what the organization told us to do and it worked. No thought or consideration is given that the person only came back to speak to their family. your family perhaps may be trying this same tactic. The last big push about df'd family and how to treat them was I believe at either this years district conventions or the year prior.

Carrie Underwood tweets, thanking God for successful Sound of Music performance
by adamah inafter a live 3 hour performance, the "american idol" winner tweets,.
"glory to god tonight...i couldn't be more proud.
what a tough thing to pull off and we did it!

I liked it, I'll give credit where it is due. The sound of music is a musical and Carrie underwood can sing. This rendition was based on the Rogers and Hammerstein play version, not the Julie Andrews movie. She has more talent than I ever will so I have no criticism. Performing live in front of the world is a tough task and I thought everyone in the show pulled it off well. I am a very big fan of the Julie Andrews movie which I do like better, probably because I grew up watching it. In any case I would not mind more live musicals in the future.

Question
by Fading Begins ini am sure that this has already been discussed, so maybe someone could direct me to the correct link.
i just haven't been able to access this site as often as i would like.
at the meeting tonight (i wasn't there but was told about it), the brothers were told to pack up a "survival kit" with enough provisions to last for six months - water, medications etc.

I have to defend this in this circumstance to my own nausea. The go bags have never been presented to have for the big a. Every letter read about them has always said for natural disasters. The wtbs actually took this idea from FEMA. Of course the JW is going to take this bag as meaning it's for the big A which the wtbs is not going to say otherwise. They started pushing the go bags pretty hard after hurricane Katrina happened if my memory serves me correct. In any case these go bags are not bad ideas to have if you live in an area where a natural disaster hits. People were murdering over a bottle of water they were so desperate when Katrina hit.

Interview at work
by Kool Jo ini conducted an interview for a job last week......... kool jo: welcome to company "x", thank you for taking the time out to attend the interview session as scheduled.. jw applicant: thank you for the oppurtunity.. kool jo: you have an amazing resume, so tell me some more about yourself.... so i asked some traditional questions and then we get to point of the discussion pertaining to....you guessed it...work schedule.. kool jo: so in this industry, you have to be able to work varying hours/shifts ect...since you're going to be the rookie.. jw applicant: well i really love the oppurtunity and i've been unemployed for a while, but i have some questions...would i be able to get saturdays, sundays, and thursday evenings off?.
kool jo: i won't be able to guarantee you that...our clients can be quite demanding and we have to fit into their schedule.. jw applicant: well, the truth is, i'm one of jehovah's witnesses, and i have commitments that are very important to me, hence my reason for asking.. kool jo: (a big wtf moment)...i just pretended i didn't know a thing about jw's....so what happens if a client wants to meet with you on a saturday morning?.
jw applicant: well, i guess i'd have to come for work...you have no idea how happy i am to even be called for an interview.

if she is a good worker, she is a good worker. I wouldn't be hard on her for being a JW. The only thing I may have done was got it in writing that she knew the hours would vary and would be required to work them if necessary. In any case, I hope she works out for you.
